  1. Yeah except I am not american so I dont get 90 day tourist visa's... As a brit thats every month unless I get a 'B' VISA... I am not working so I dont even know the legality of using a work permit and not working (what I did for the last year) and not paying taxes...

Plus last year getting a work permit issued in Munchen was a simple pay an 'agent' service and I assume that this year thats not the case...

Can I get an O VISA in Thailand (legally) that allows for 90 day stays ?? What would be the cost and requirements ???

Its nuts how tough it is to live here legally...

  2. There is a way. COMPLY and have a proper visa.

OK then if its so simple how ???? (please see http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10082) if your under 50 and dont want to marry a thai even if your spending 20 - 30k USD per annum in Thailand brought in from outside you still have no legal way of maintaining residency shy of 'wasting' 3 mil !!!

I dont want to be on tourist visa's... I contribute to the Thai economy... I dont need or want to work (been there, done it)... So please explain how I comply without leaving the country !!!

  3. Recent figures in Phuket testing only a 18 (or 16 ??) - 30 age group of females (surely a massively high risk demographic on a tourist island like Phuket) has shown that HIV+ rates have risen from a little under 1.5% to a little over 2%.. this is a >25% rise and was considered a big increase...

When the rest of the population (lower risk) is factored in I am guessing a 1 - 1.5% infection rate for Phuket would be a reasonable estimate.

To state 85% of people are infected is quite frankly insulting and ill informed.

  4. Does anyone know if it is possible to hold the 3 million value in a currency that is not Baht ???

I would not have a problem loosing some interest on 70k's worth of euro's if I was secure in the knowledge that the 70k could be kept in Euros and that if I needed to send it back out of thailand (loosing my 1 year visa privelidge) later I could do so.

  5. So is there really no solution for someone who wants to stay in thailand spending large amounts of money brought in from overseas ???

Just because I have retired at 30 must i still always leave the country every 90 days or pay income tax on money that is not earnt (to expensive)... I am also unwilling at this point to convert 3 million into baht but would leave 3 mil in Euro in a thai bank as long as I had complete and unfettered access to it (can send back out of Thailand after)...

    Surely there is a way.

  6. OK well thats a vicious circle...

I was the reader who wrote to the gazette... The thing was I was pointing out not the 3 visa limit but the fact that multiple back to back visas will now need to show some form of proof of money / earnings...

So I read abput the issue on a thread on here... Point the gazette to here... they contact the immigration and post a story... which is then reported on here :o !!!

However in previous communication they stated that people would need to show evidence of 40k per month income from abroad... now they state 20k !!

  7. Comments re Rooms...

I live on Phisaat Karonee and as mentioned there are cheap rooms and long stay places that can be down around 3 - 5 k if you look... Stays of a month or more can find flats / rooms / apartments pretty easy also.

I just put my mate in the Blue Sky residence (nice new clean rooms... Maid services... Swimming pool.. Etc) for 10k for one month considering the standard of rooms and pool I thought that pretty reasonable.

The Andaman Hill on Nanai is a pretty good Hotel with nice pool etc and can be haggled down to 500 a night at this time of year with no joiner fee.

For the extra 100 baht or so that you will spend to be in this quality of hotel v a Paradise guesthouse I would call it a no brainer.

Re the joiner fee and Hotels treatment of non working girls...

I have had my fair share of hassles and arguements, my first wife was stunning looking and some Hotels security would be a real PITA to deal with. We had been living in Europe and she had lost her Thai ID card and on return to Phuket on holiday checked into a hotel as a couple. That night returning from the bar the security wanted to do an ID check and even after explaining she was my fiance and we were booked into the room together he was still rude and insisted on her waiting outside the hotel while I went and got her passport from the room. I remained calm and spoke to the front desk the next morning. The thing was the little bastard repeated this performance each night even after the whole thing had been addressed, the following night I nearly clocked him and we checked out the next morning !!! He simply looked down on my lady as she was good looking and (surgically) well endowed and did the standard Thai dominance thing !!!

  8. I am a British national living in Thailand (Phuket) for the last couple of years and have no plans to leave any time soon.

For my first few months I did the 30 day Visa's (at a time when 'agents' could handle this) and then April last year obtained a 'B' Visa via an agent for one year, even though I am not working at all or paying taxes.

I am aged 30 and kind of retired and have funds but do not wish to convert them into Thai baht or bring them into Thailand if it can be avoided. I generally bring money every 3 months or so via bank wire and showing I can support myself indefinately is no problem.

My B visa ran out in April and I am now on my last 90 day entry and looking into my options for long stay but would MUCH prefer not to have to leave the kingdom every 90 days on a Visa run to Ranong.

I was told last year that I could obtain an O visa by showing 2 million baht in a thai bank account, I asked if that money could be in Euro or USD (this is possible to have with the Bangkok Bank locally) as I was hopeful of bringing the money into Thailand and then sending it back out again afterwards. At the time I was told this should be acceptable but have recently been told this is now not acceptable :o !!!

So what can I do to get a one year multiple entry visa which does not require 90 day visa runs ??? I am unwilling to simply pay taxes on minimum wage (about 6k per month I am told) to have a full B visa and work permit and will continue to do the runs in that case.

It seems hard to get proper long stay abilities when you are retired at my age.
