    Well what to do?

A question for many nations try not to upset China good for trade.  Try not to upset the USA also a good trading partner and friend for security, traditionaly?

Yes traditionally, the US did send advisors and special forces to Thailand during the 1960's to train and work with Thai troop in the field during the time of the communist insurgency.  The US also provided US Air Force interceptor units to Thailand to check communist aircraft that had been entering Thai airspace as early and 1961.  In return, Thailand provided the US with use of Royal Thai Air Force bases during the mid 1960s to 1974 for US aircraft to bomb the North Vietnam and supply routes leading to South Vietnam.

  2. My wife and I have been going to Roiet once a year for a week visit to her family.  Although she owns a few rai of rice fields that she inherited there, I would not want to live there.   For now she share crops her land out to other family members and has no plans to live there until my passing.

I found that shopping for western foods is limited to what Big C and Tesco Lotus has and they have less western foods than the ones in BKK or Chiang Mai.  There are no stores that specialize in western food and only a few western style restaurants.  However, there are some KFCs.  I have been to the government hospital and I would say in is sufficient for minor things like cuts that need stitches and such.   I have also visited a private hospital there and did note they have a floor for upper class people and falangs although the English ability of the nurses on that floor was limited.  As for things to do for guys like us, it is very limited.  If you haven't been to the White Elephant restaurant and bar, I suggest you check it out.  They have pool table and play sports on their big screen TVs there.  A lot of local expats go there, it located along the outside of the east side moat, across from the Roi Et City Hotel.

  3. I have been using Asia Fortune Dental for the past five years for all sorts of dental work including removing of a wisdom tooth.  In my case I had my wisdom tooth looked at in the states and they told me it would be a very difficult removal because of how the roots were spread.  I waited until I returned here and went to my dentist here Asia Fortune Dental and the owner who is a professor at CMU dental department pulled it out without incident.  I was very happy with his work and the work the other dentist have given me there over the years.  Here is a link:  http://www.asiafortunedentalhospital.com/

  4. If you have been living in Thailand and are a current resident here under a marriage or retirement visa, you can get divorced at your local amphur.  You will need your American marriage certificate, a notarized translation of it and you passports and other ID.  You should also write up an agreement as to who gets what in the settlement and have it notarized and bring that with you as well.

"How far away is Guam from America?"  Really?!?  Guam is America. I"m living in Tumon Village, Guam.

In fact all the people of Guam are American citizens.  As for all the other islands that America control or possess in the Pacific, they were assigned to the custody of the U.S. by the United Nations, all legal and above board.

Skype is free as long as you call between devices with Skype installed using VOIP. Only if you want to call land-line or cell numbers would you need to pay.

    https://www.skype.com/en/features/skype-to-skype-calls/

I use skype to call many of my friends and relatives computer to computer or using my cell phone browser.  Because not all of my friends and relatives are able to use computers and because sometimes I need to call businesses I pay about $14.00 a month for a Skype phone number.  With the the Skype phone number I can pick an area code in the U.S. I want my phone number to be from.  Then anyone in the U.S. can call the regular looking number from their cell or landline phone and it will ring me up on my skype which I have on all the time on my cell phone.  I can also use the skype phone to call any cell or landline number in the U.S. as well.  To me, $14.00 is a good deal to have this ability to call and receive calls from phones in the U.S.

  8. Thailand has been America's partner in many international affairs over the years, including sending troops to fight in the Vietnam and Korean Wars and still maintaining a small presence in South Korea.  However, if Prayut were to ever meet Trump in person, I'm sure klutz Trump would say the wrong thing to him without even realizing he was insulting Prayut.  Both countries will be better off if the two never meet.

  9. If you guys who are not getting your SS checks deposited until the 2nd, 3rd or 4th Wednesday of the month want to start getting it on the 3rd of the month, all you have to do is to log onto your SS account and change your mailing address to whatever you use in Thailand.  It does not matter if your check is deposited in America or Thailand, if you have a Thai address or an APO if retired military SS will start depositing your check on the 3rd of the month to the same bank account you are currently using.  For guys not getting their check until the 4th Wednesday, it will almost be like getting and extra months check.

  10. Having lived in the Chiang Mai area for nearly 8 years, I have grown accustom to the smog every year.  This year I went on a trip to the US in mid April and I am still there.  One disturbing thing I have noticed is the difference in the filters on my CPAP machine.  In Thailand I have to change the air filter every two weeks because it get black with dirt from the air.  But now I have been in the US for well over a month and my filter is still very white and clean looking (FL and AZ).  This tells me we have a big problem in Chiang Mai and I am having thoughts of moving back to the US to stay.

  11. If you use Fedex, DHL or UPS will pay more for customs than you would using regular postal service.  The reason for this is that the Thai postal service is part of the government and charges only the correct amount in custom fees.  The others like Fedex, DHL and UPS are contracted by the Thai government to collect custom fees for them.  As they do this they are allowed to set what they feel you should pay for customs and they get a percentage of it as a service fee for making the collection.  Therefore, they are inclined to over charge you for customs in order to increase their profit.

  12. I do my immigration in Chiang Mai and use an income affidavit provided by the U.S. Consulate there.  Although in eight years I have never been asked for extra proof of income, I always bring my SS income statement, which you can get on-line and a letter I get annually from my other pension company showing my income with me.  I do this because you never know when Thai immigration may decide to change something.

  13. I normally fly Korean Air from CNX to Atlanta, they also have LAX, JFK, and a few other options all with a layover and plane change at Inchon, Korea.   This year I booked a flight through Expedia CNX on Korean Air to Inchon and American Airlines Inchon to Houston and on to Orlando on AA for $1,005.00 round trip cattle class.  If you need to get your AA miles, just let the AA people know at the boarding gate before you board and they will make sure you get your miles.

Pretty sure that was post 1946.

Thailand known as Siam back then also fought with the Americans as well as the French starting in 1917 in France during WW-1.

There were also about 40,000 Thai freedom fighters fighting the Japanese in Thailand during WW-ll.  These Thai fighters were supplied and trained by America.
