  1. I worked for a japanese company before. I started at 7am and left at 7pm. All the japaneses staff were there before I arrived and left after I did.. It is the Japanese way,, no one dare leave before the boss does..

But,, for hard work, they pay well, after you fit into the office..Good bonuses too..

However you do seem to be being taken advantage of..if you think you are working to long hours,Go home earlier..., stick to your job desrciption.

Or talk to whoever employed you and ask them if its appropriate to ask for pay rise.. Maybe thye are testing you.. also the Japaneses way,,

  2. Great news for Thailand and in particular Chiang Mai. A democratically elected majority government and one of the world's prettiest PM's.

As for a Casino, I know for a fact there was a major meeting in Chiang Mai between associates of the new incumbents and power brokers from Macau in late 2005. The events of 19th Sept 2006 probably threw discussions out of the window. That may now well change.

Not so long ago Singapore was the last place on earth to have a casino, now look at it!

Any government worth their salt would want the pie here, not over foreign borders.

Yes but do they really want the problems that go with it.

What problems are yuo referring too?

Gambling is rife in Thailand...Football,,for example..

And casinos are just over the border.

As Thailand said Singapore was the last place I felt would approve a casino, but it has.

"They" can deal wit the problems if they want to...

And Casino would attact many high end tourists , which is what CM needs and has wanted for so long..

Sure it would affect other end of the society to some extent, but also create jobs and put CM on the map.

any maybe, just maybe get more Direct flights to CNX..

  3. as already posted sounds like you have a leak or others using your water. our bill for last 15 years for 4 bed house, 5 people, not over 130- baht..

  4. 180 lessons for 24,960 Baht, which also qualifies for a one year Ed visa.

That works out at 139 baht a time + perks........sounds like a fair deal, whatever way you look at it.

It even says at the bottom of the ad

    SATISFACTION GUARANTEED!!!

    Now, that's something you don't get very often......especially at 139Baht a time! rolleyes.gifwink.gif

The deal is very good and can be even better as our students can study with us totally for free.

oops...there goes the marketing again,,,, "..totally for free."

Seem to recall from my marketing days " there is no such thing as a free lunch!"

    Good luck with business.

  5. The fact of the matter is that once the PTP finance minister gets a look at the books he or she will soon see that Thailand ddoes not have the funds in the Treasury to support anything extra

Assuming that Olarn(?) is competent in finance and economics, he probably already knew long before the end of the election campaign that the promises were not realistically feasible. But he would have also known that the immediate priority was just to get as many votes as possible from the naive masses.

and that finance minister will have the difficult task of explaining that to the public.

So is it Ok during an election campaign to make big promises that are highly attractive to the masses, and then after the goal of winning the election is achieved, renege on many of those promises?

Companies who advertise or market their products falsely or deceptively can be punished by law. So how about political parties who deceive the public in order to win an election?

I would say no. But maybe we should ask Tony Blair and Gordon Brown !

  6. Good luck

And I add a free English lesson until is not a preposition

    It is a conjunction

I am sure you will enjoy your time here

Bon Voyage give my fondest regards to My uncle Borat in Kargandy

Just thought I would point out that our learned friend from Kazakhstan does not actually need an English lesson. He was correct in saying that the word 'until' is a preposition.

according to the dictionary, "until" can be either; a preposition or a con junction.

  7. As Rob says, it could be used in a friendly way. Listen out for something that sounds like dol-air which has a similar but much less friendly meaning/usage.

as in you're full of bullshit !

but this could be used in a friendly way also.

example :your with a mate telling a story and he tells you you are bullshitting him. not that unusual. Any bad word can be okay amongst friends. I call my mates cun_ts all the time, and they are !

this is like Thai slang word and from my understanding (from friends and family) it should really not be used at all, bcoz it is very rude and plus the user is thought to be very low class.. it is used by Thais among friends but even then it can be misread and fights can break out.. I'm told Farangs should never use this type of language becasue a) we lower ourselves in the eyes of the receiver and B) we dont know what is an "appropriate" time to use it..

JMTCW,, (just my two cents worth)

  8. It depends which FF program they are affilliated with. Which Virgin is it (atlantic, America , Blue )?? Singapore Air are part of Star Alliance (as is Thai) and FF members are permitted extra baggage allowance.

Example : i have been a Thai airways Gold card holder for 10 years (thats a Star Alliance membership) and no matter I fly with Thai , Singapore airlines or any other Star Alliance carrier I have never been charged for Excess baggage up to about 30kg extra.

. Mind you the other thing about excess baggage is it relates to the fare each passenger pays for their ticket - ie: if you pay full price ticket and have a few kilos extra they are unlikely to charge you BUt if you are on a promo or cheapy ticket they will charge for sure.

But the FF membership seems to override that factor.

Oh ! as an alternative you might try calling a Cargo company and ask them as well, as often they have cheaper rates than the airlines direct. If so just tell thme which flight you want it to go on so it all arrives with you on the same plane. Or send it the flight before and tell them you will collect it at the cargo desk on arrival and it will be there waiting for you (this may be better as cargo clearance on some airlines can take a while).

    Anyway good luck.

  9. The official holiday is 13, 14, 15th. However the water throwing will no doubt start on Saturdy 9th or Sunday 10th as next week is considered by most as a writeoff ( ie: a long weeks holiday) even tho many businesses will still be open on 11 and 12.

I saw some kids with water pistols out this morning on my my way out, so i guess it sorta started already..

  10. So then are you a Frequent Flyer member with any airline/s. FF's normally get 20k or min 10 k extra plus possible cheap cargo rates.

Also have you asked them, Emirates, about sending your bags cargo on the same flight ??? Some airlines allow this at a discount BUT you have to check the cargo in a day or so earlier than yourself..

  11. IF you already have a work permit then the company qualifies to have you as an employee, it had to or the labor dept would not issue the WP. In any event this is not a WP or Labor dept issue which is what involves all the tax questions, this is Immigration issue.

Go to immigration with your current passport and WP and apply for a 1 year extension of stay.

Once you have that then you go to the Labor office and they will extend your WP expiry to match the 1 year extension of stay from Immigration. this is all normal procedure - You do not need to leave the country.

  12. Post needs more details - where are you flying from, which airline; would help with replies.

IF flyingThai airways they have extra allowances of up to 20 kg for frequent flyers. Or you can cargo it on the same flight for reduced costs, but you may have to check it 1 or 2 days before the flight as cargo for that flight.

  13. you tried to imply it was Singaporean - anyway a couple of years ago ICICI was an 'at risk' bank - maybe not now but it was during the banking crisis

no, i did not try to imply any such thing,, read my post again ,,, it says .."international banks in Singapore..."

as for at risk,,,, what about all the other 'big' banks that were or are at risk,, or have gone bust...

I am stating my experience and opinion only..and with ICICI Singapore branch,, it is good.

  14. if looking at 7-8% returns this can be ahcieved by fixed deposits / foreign currency deposits in international banks in Singapore,, why would anyone take the risk of "trading" in thai stocks to get the same results...

Care to name any names...HSBC Singapore is currently offering about 4.5% on 12 month AUS dollar accounts. All other currencies range from .5 to 2.5 percent. Didn't see anything even close to 7 to 8 percent. I would assume other banks in Singapore are similar.

    Sure look at this link...fixddeplink

    Been with them for years.

    ICICI is an Indian bank

And your point is what ?

It is also listed on NYSE, is highly ranked in Forbes global ranking (higher than some other banks being mentioned), is regulated y MAS...

Never had a problem with them.

  15. as stated Thai baht is considered an 'exotic' outside SE asia. many banks will not accept/convert.

Even had the experience in Australia recently - "sorry we dont accept Thai baht".

Reasons given were 1) its not a heavily traded currency 2) there are many "fake" notes in circualtion..

Better change to some CAD cash before leaving and use an ATM card with international usage permitted.
