International media has been full of poisonous air stories for a couple of years now, and it seems unlikely this half-baked government, controlled by forces we can't discuss and the major corporations that define their 'policies' will do much about it. In most places on planet Earth, it would be a national disaster, but here, they form a committee and pass the odd law nobody enforces while the appointed PM hangs out in Tokyo and California. Who, in their right mind, would bring their loved ones to Thailand?

Thai finance ministry considers beverage tax restructure to boost tourism

You've been moving in the wrong circles. Pretty much everyone I've spoken to under a certain age in Europe, UK and, yes, Singapore has expressed interest in the weed. Young Singaporeans come for two weeks - one to smoke and one to cleanse the blood. Ganja tourism is pretty big now and there are tours that specifically target it. -

Those political views include destroying the democratic process and destroying countless lives because other people have different views. She’s a monster. -
Thai health minister backs cannabis ban, citing surge in teen usage

They should probably supply their supporting evidence - peer reviewed by qualified people of science of course - to the people that have been trying to find scientific evidence that would back this for decades and failed. Then these police in a medium sized city in the South West of England should be put forward for the Nobel Prize they so richly deserve. -
Thai health minister backs cannabis ban, citing surge in teen usage

In other news, thousands of young Thais were killed by drunk drivers over the last year whilst Thai Bev and Boonrawk made substantial donations to the parties currently in the new junta/coalition and it was decided that nothing would be done about this minor problem. -

How on earth can muscle weight more than fat. A kilo weights the same as a kilo. -
Thailand puts a great deal of effort into NOT educating people. One of MFP's great crimes was a plan to reform the broken education system. Sadly, half the people working in service can't give you the change for a 70b purchase out of a 100b note without the POS device telling them what it is (this is not a Thailand only issue).

You mean except to the countless businesses that use it every day as a vital tool to do business and the tourism and hospitality industries. Good to know you don’t value any of those. Or the groups which ID snakes for people, or the musicians who use it communicate with their audiences, or the countless people who are disabled who use it for support groups and on and on and on. No value to you does not mean no value. Maybe think about others.

Quick Analysis: With Pita Gone, What Happens Next?
Snig27 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
A commentator on Al Jaz said "Thailand remains a failed state". It's how much of the world sees the country - nice place for a holiday but a mess as a country.- 65 replies

Pita ordered to suspend doing his duties as an MP

It would have made no difference at all. This is not about shares and never was. Zip to do with it. Zero. -
Pita ordered to suspend doing his duties as an MP

And you sound incredibly naive. Two years ago with the protests we were one order away from this. Only social media kept it at bay. Kids were beaten badly then as were reporters. Shots were fired by the military on more than one occasion. Last year there were some very moving memorials and exhibitions across Bangkok to commemorate that many hundreds who have been murdered by the military in Thailand in very recent times. The Rap Against Dictatorship video has had over 100m views. Thais haven't forgotten the dark recent past even if you are oblivious to it. -
Pita ordered to suspend doing his duties as an MP
Snig27 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Do you really think that's the reason? That's at best very naive. In 2006 it was a cooking show. In 2014 it was a minor shift of an official years before. These are all establishment excuses for judicial coups.- 303 replies

Pita ordered to suspend doing his duties as an MP

Or you need to read some Thai history. 1947, 1958, 1973, 1992, 2010 plus a massive campaign in the North East in the 1970s and 1980s that saw thousands dead.- 303 replies

If you were in the middle of some of those massive protests in 2020 you would have encountered a fairly large number of non-apathetic Thais. The one next to the Grand Palace was estimated by media at 100,000. The senate loses the power to vote for PM in May 2024. Unless the constitution is changed they can appoint 1000 senators and it makes no difference.

Thailand braces for liquor industry disruption under Move Forward
Snig27 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That it is. The beer tax and the absurd rules on craft beer brewing are more of a protection thing, maintained by Prayut as a totally corrupt attempt to destroy any competition for his mates at Boonrawk and ThaiBev.- 70 replies
