If that is the case my insurance will pay 100% after out of pocket expense of $6750. If doctors say cannot go to USA, they will pay 100% after out-of pocket expense. That means I have to spend from my pocket the first $6750 and then they pay 100%. Immigration does not accept my current insurance. I am not worried about immigration. I can fly out and enter visa exempt and then convert to non-O and then extension.
do it, better get the conversion to a Non-O. For this, your O/A or its extension must become void. Note that at some point in the future, old O/A's will fall under the requirement for a Thai insurance out of the 13 insurances in the tgia-list. Your U.S. insurance will not be accepted by immigration. However this says nothing about your U.S, insurance is very good for you to have, and be insured when living abroad . . myself I would never go without being covered, I already needed it last year and it has cost my insurance 1.2 Million Baht

the better air quality in Bangkok has absolutely nothing to do with any measures they did impose or did not impose. The reason lies in the change of the prevalent wind direction. During most of last weeks, the wind was coming straight from the East, which means it brought haze from Cambodia and the smokescreen of the burning sugarcane field around Prachinburi and Chachoengsao.
since yesterday the winds have turned and now are blowing into Bangkok mostly from the Bay of Bangkok, from the open sea, from southeast and southwest.
You can look at the wind directions in the airvisual map and see for yourself. Not the government, but the WEATHER GODS caused cleaner air in Bangkok !
https://www.airvisual.com/thailand
Now Prachinburi gets all the haze from Cambodia, as do we where we live near the Cambodian border at Kantharalak. The Air quality there is AQI 150 thru 160

" John Grant of the schedule analysts, OAG, has looked at the number of seats on flights departing from Wuhan in the first three months of 2020 "
how can he check the first 3 months of this year at the end of January ?
Yes, there is a quarantaine imposed by now over the province of Wuhan, yet it seems that many people from there were already travelling by the time the quarantaine was established. Happy Chinese New Year, though !

I hope that when they find him they hang him HIGH on an instant, influential or not
-
next we read an interview in the media: "I know who he is, but I fear for my life because he knows influential people, and he is proficient with a gun"
and the Thai Police stating "we know a person who knows, but we don't know what to do next as there are influential people connected"
TIT ????

i have a laser-meter to measure the AQI 2.5 fine dust particles in our living room or in the bedroom. I set up a XiaoMi 2S air purifier, and the results were measurable !

i know of people who have the 1-year Non-Imm-O Multi Entry based on marriage to a Thai, who at the very end of the 1-year validity of this visa get granted an application for 60 more days, which means you can get a maximum of 14 months out of the visa and the 60-day permit of stay. Upon the exhaustion just go visit Savannakhet or HCMC and apply for a new 1-year Multi Entry Non-Imm-O based on marriage without having to show any finances. This option is widely open to the guy !
Shall I repeat: No finances needed !
Border runs required every 90 days to keep the visa alive and receive 90-day stay permits upon each entry.
Requirements regarding the marriage certificates, passports and house books can be had on the websites of both consulates.
Savannakhet and HCMC are still walk-in consulates, no online appointments needed. In HCMC he needs US Dollars cash to pay. The visa fee is likely the equivalent of 5000 THB

It could be years - and re-entry permits do not count as new entries.
sorry, I had edited my post while you were replying to it.
He could do a border run ANY TIME and enter with a 30-day visa exempt. Gives him a new entry upon which he can apply for the 60 days visa based on visiting the wife.
Only two entries per calendar year, though, by land borders
Phuket immigration is famous for making up their own rules and interpretations. I suggest he uses a hotel stay in another region to give him the right to use a more foreigner-friendly Immigration

Only if a 60 day extension has not previously been given on the same entry
so once per entry ? He could do a border run, enter with a 30 day visa exempt and apply for the 60 days based on this new entry?

The visa might be valid for a year - BUT it does NOT provide a one year permission to stay NOR does it guarantee entry.
I stand corrected . . it is a visa with a 1-year "validity" and gives him a 90 day stay permit on each entry, for the duration of the validity
I have yet to read or hear about somebody being refused entry at a land border with this visa

Using a M/E visa gives 90 day stays NOT a "one year permit to stay" --
wrong
it gives you ONE YEAR "validity" (which is about the same) on a multi entry Non-Imm-O based on marriage with a Thai. He will have to do a border run every 90 days, though
NO finances needed for application for this visa in Savannakhet and HCMC

ah and not to forget . . anyone who is married to a Thai, can apply for a 60-day permit of stay based on "visiting the wife" on ANY immigration inside Thailand !

if this hasn't been mentioned yet, here it is . . it is no big deal:
He can get a 1-year permit of Stay by applying for a multi entry Non-Imm-O visa based on the marriage to a Thai, on the consulates in Savannakhet, Laos, or in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam,
WITHOUT any proof of finances.
All he has to do on this visa, is a border run every 90 days
end of story

Valid O-A based on retirement extended contiguously for 13 years. At this point I don't have a re-entry permit, but last time I re-entered the country on my O-A visa it wasn't a big deal. My O-A visa expires the first of Feb and I still don't have health insurance so this seems to be the only option.
as Ubon Joe already wrote, firstly your existing "extension of stay (EOS) based on retirement" from your old O/A visa, must have become invalid, before you can apply for a tourist visa outside of Thailand, or receive a 30-day exempt entry at a border. Since you are already on an EOS for 13 years, it would become invalid on the spot if you exited Thailand without a re-entry permit issued for this EOS. So you can play safe card, exit Thailand anytime before the valid until date of your EOS without a re-entry permit (don't exit after that date as it would technically put you on overstay) and then the easiest way would be you re-enter Thailand with a 30-day visa exempt which can be extended inside Thailand for further 30 days for 1900 THB. Note: When applying for the conversion of the exempt visa to a Non-Imm-O visa on immigration, your valid until stamp must have a minimum of 15 days validity

I find I get quoted 30-50% more when buying things here (double).
I get really insulted when someone knows I’m a "vet" here yet still tries double price.
Is this just me? I feel like I will just start walking away from these double pricers
If you like to barter, then firstly you should learn some basic algebra.
When someone quotes a 50% higher price, this is not "doubling". Doubling the price would mean he asks for 100% more

I have yet to read any successful extension granted or grandfathering reports for that.. Could you link to it please ??
I already posted my excuse as I cannot clarify that EOS are going to be grandfathered
As goes for the EOS with older O/A or existing EOS extended for another year, I was wrong in my assumptions.
We still do not know what is going to happen, it is too early too say with 100% clarity
I wish to express my sincere apologies for assuming member "haribo" for being a troll

That's great news!
There were several reports that holders of pre Oct 31 issued OA Visas when entering Thailand were not stamped in for the 1-year they were entitled to, because of no health-insurance. But after Nov 7 it was confirmed that that was a mistake, and these unfortunates have now the possibility to have the mistake corrected at IO.
But what you are saying is that ALSO those applying for an extension of stay based on an original pre Oct 31 issued OA Visa are grandfathered, and so NO health insurance required.
Cheers and Champagne!
it seems that I am wrongly convinced about this.
Read the post above from Kadilo . . . it tells all. We still don't know what is going to happen to all those who are already on an EOS resulting from a former Non-Imm-O/A and who need need their yearly extension.
in fact . . it is too early for Champagne !

The problem is that there are numerous threads posting similar and showing photos of the instructions in local Immigration Offices.
Its really worrying and confusing for many and needs sorting by the Mods as it’s getting out of hand.
the introduction of the "grandfathering" scheme is absolutely NEW . it came from a meeting of Immigration offcials at Suvarnabhumi Airport as of November 7th. So all the conflicting messages and postings are in line and understandable regarding the confusion that was imminent BEFORE today

One of our clients just came to us from immigration in Hua Hin. The customer is continuously for 4 years with annual extensions of an OA visa in Thailand. He has not received a new extension because he had no health insurance certificate. This means that in Hua Hin even with an extension of an OA visa the proof of insurance must be present. So not only at new exhibitions abroad but also with extensions in Thailand. Can someone from another region confirm or deny this to me? Thanks
excuse me, are you an internet troll ?
There are incoming reports that a correction in the interpretation of the police order has led to a "grandfathering" scheme regarding all O/A visa that were issued before 31 st of October 2019 which says, NO health insurance needed for extension of the O/A or an EOS resulting from an O/A from this period.
and YOU - completely new to this forum - want to tell us something else ?

the OP could apply for a Multi Entry Tourist Visa, it has a six month validity.
He needs to make a border run every 60 days, and will receive another 60 days on return.
Just shy of the Visa becoming invalid, he can do a border run and will receive another 60 days, which brings his total period of stay to almost 8 months

as there is neither a "retirememnt visa" nor a "retirement extension" I highly doubt your friend is on any sort of Extension of Stay. Maybe you can clarify this with your friend. Maybe he calls his one-year Non-Imm-O/A Visa Multi Entry a "retirement extension" because when he applied for the Non-Imm-O/A in his home country, the requirements read "people over 50 and/or retired".
So what they are trying to tell him on Jomtien Immigration is actually true if you wish to extend your 1-year Non-Imm-O/A into the second year, now the new rules say that you need a thai accredited health insurance for the duration of your next "1-year stay permit" he can get with the Non-Imm-O/A
If he is actually and factually on an "1-year Extension of Stay Permit based on retirement" and wants to apply for the renewal before the his current permission of stay ends, I strongly guess the officer is making things up for himself or even hasn't fully understood the up-to date police order on the requirement of Health Insurances for holders of the Non-Imm-O/A
The spoken suggestions - none of the a police order, just bla bla - of Mr. Pittutech that all kind of "longstayers" needed Health Insurance stems from the same mind that suggested burning shorter incense sticks will help fight against pollution

some points that people need to be aware of... if you put 800k baht in a thai bank, and you are single, there is a good chance that if you die for whatever reason, all that money is given to the thai government. and the same scenario holds true for those who have their ss auto-deposit into a thai bank every month for the purpose of satisfying the retirement extension financial requirements.
frankly, I think it's all a scam. and the reason why is because many people are paying bribes to bypass all these headaches. and thai immigration is allowing it.
I am living with my girlfriend for 13 years, we are not married. For the 800,000+ in my Thai bank account (for the EOS based on retirement) I made up a Thai Will. So my Girlfriend gets it all when I die before her.
Making up a Thai Will for posessions in Thailand, search the internet you will find and can make up a legal will for all your Thai based assets, easy peasy, if that is what worries you

the smaller Bay of Bangkok eventually widens to the "Gulf of Thailand" . . I do not remember where I caught the phrase, must have been a long time ago. You are surely right there is no mentioning of an "Ao Krungthep", the gulf starts at the mouth of the Chao Phraya and a few other rivers east and west of it. Anyways, I just wanted to point the attention to the now prevalent southerly winds coming in from the Gulf of Siam
