  1. Morning is the best time of day, a lot cooler and plus mom goes to the market to get the freshest veggies, fruits and meats. The early bird always catches the worm.

TRUE, BUT THE BIRD CATCHES THE EARLY WORM"!cheesy.gif

Let's agree on "the early birds get the earliest worms" or this discussion will never end . . blink.png

  2. There is such a regularity to the good-samaritian stories that I sometimes think they're fabricated for the benefit of the people who like to nod and say, 'see, there are good people in Thailand after all'. Once per month, and the money is about half a million Baht. Here is the issue 04/2013. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/632046-taxi-driver-returns-bt520000-in-lost-cash/

Well that takes conspiracy theory to a whole new level - a very low level, <deleted>!

for me, the level is hot. I can smell trolls everywhere. Stories about half millions of Bahts taken from pickpockets are to be viewed as utter nonsense

  3. The most effective barrier built thus far would have been the one separating Hong Kong from the mainland. Electric, electronic sensors, unscalable, sentries and roving patrols. But even then, it was a full-time and very expensive operation for British Forces HK (who utilized the most up-to-date equipment at the time) to patrol the adjacent waters ... and the mainlanders were STILL able to elude them on the water.

The General may not have considered that the cost of building the wall is only a drop in the ocean compared to manning and maintaining it properly. And if it's not going to be manned and maintained, what's the sense of it?

it's purpose is supposed to stop the southerners from achieving bombs and bring them across the border to Thailand.

I know a market in Bangkok where one can buy all electronic stuff needed to build a remote controlled trigger for a bomb, and plenty of shops around selling nitrate fertilizer by the tonnes. A Wall separating Malaysia from Thailand is good for a laugh, nothing more

  4. Do you mean the obligatory battery change after 5 years ? Because this is about the life span of a car battery. There are plenty of car shops around which can help you exchange the old battery for a used one. I haven't ever heard of any other electrical related problems that arise in a used car at this early stage. What makes you think so ? If the generators quit charging the battery, every little car shop owner can tell you about the origin of the problem and is able to exchange the graphite conductors. This is not new to them, actually for such a simple job, I find Thai car mechanics rather flexible and clever in solving these problems. If you don't trust the small shops, go visit the larger dealerships and their garages. There you can expect a professional job.

  5. in Germany, at a very early level in schools, the race start for every kid to show their fellow kids that they can out-fashion everyone, out-smartphone you and me, wear dernier-cri shoes and caps and much more. Kids in school should focus on studying and not trying to look more fashionable than their fellow students. Unfortuntely, nothing in Germany changes, and mobbing in schools is an everyday nuisance, on a steady rise !

  6. It is not allowed to post advertisement or links, but since you asked on how to find apartments for rent (preferably in the area of your school ?!) I feel free to recommend the website en.9apartment dot com . Thanks to the moderators for understanding

  7. "There is also a plan to invest in water purification equipment with a budget of Bt30 million to produce water supply to meet demand, while another Bt11 million will used to connect raw water pipelines from nearby Phetchaburi province to Hua Hin for 24-hour water transport"

while this only touches the need for more tap water due to rising water waste, nobody cars about any solution to the problem of waste water.

Hua Hin Beach in the rainy season, when the tides are high and aimed towards the shore, reveal that there is a waste water problem throughout the whole place. Grey-toned beaches tell of feces carried back by the surf. Did anyone ever dare to do a water quality check ? The mussels that are abundant on the rocks are telling you that they are happily feeding on human's remains.

Hua Hin's housing development is a big joke and has lead to dozens of villages half sold, half connected, already full of dumped construction leftovers, dirt canals, piles of debris , everywhere in the outskirts of Hua HIn it is an incredible Chaos of bad infrastructure, illegal dumps, rubbish littering every street, soi dogs are spreading their turf, the smell starts rising.

I wonder how foreigner can still call Hua Hin a "paradise city". Probably NEVER ever been to any spanish, danish, dutch, baltic or mediterranean sea resort. All these are by light years cleaner and more enjoyable than Hua Hin's beaches.

Is it the cheap availability of SEX and the cheap availability of cheap street food and the cheap counterfeit goods that attract customers ?

And . .WHO wants to live inside a dump ?

  8. This is the same... individual that wanted to have an exotic animal buffet at the Chiang Mai zoo.

I'm sure he came to be the (putatively) richest member of Yingluck's cabinet through honest hard work and sheer brilliance.

So........I guess there is no link whatsoever between intelligence and the acquisition of massive wealth?? cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif

He is truly a remarkable guy. Slicker than grease dripping in the hot afternoon sun. We all should have a keen eye on him and his further actions. He is going to be the richest Thai "minister" of all times, and maybe even will become premier. Utter negligience of all logical whim is the concept of winning badly educated masses of people. In a western country, he would be in deep trouble for what he says and acts. Maybe even in jail. Do theThais really deserve such a person inside the leading team of their country? This man has accumulated money in a criminal manner and should be prosecuted & ( and now i am joining the hang'em brigade for the first time )please delete my post i fear for my life . . .

  9. Yes they can achieve the 8 million tonnes goal by just selling 5 million tonnes off their stockpiles. However I doubt the prices will go up. Furthermore, the stockpile rice is now of poorer quality, you can expect it to stink and smell, no more jasmin smell rice. It could backlash onto Thailand as being the World's number one exporter for low quality rice. I sincerely hope for all's sake she does not shoot the bullet into her own foot !!!!

  10. slap a woman, shoot someone. slap a woman , shoot someone.. slap a woman shoot someone .. now u get how it goes

....add in the evil female co-lead and her mum who has designs on the good male lead who himself is too shy to tell the good female co-lead how he feels about her. A quirky gay character is there to give the good female lead advice in matters of love when she needs it. Add in a foreign trip to Europe, usually to Paris, Prague or Switzerland when one of the good leads needs an eye operation after ther have gone blind, usually after being shot or a hit and run........unless it's an historical drama of course when the trip will be to an ancient palace. Good leads eventually get together and are allowed to kiss each other on the cheek or hold hands whilst the evil female lead and her mum are humiliated by losing the family fortune or a gang rape to show how bad they are. Repeat adnauseum.................

Holy Cow, you must have been paying full attention to the plots ! I would suggest enjoying a few cool blondes (drinks) before going 'ad nauseum' . . .
  11. Lesson learned should be such - never pay with your credit or debit card in shops & hotels/resorts & fueling stations. Only use ATM , withdraw cash and pay with cash.

It minimizes the risk that someone whom you hand over your card copies the details and goes on a shopping spree,

as for this they don't need your PIN . . only your card details and the CVC number on the back.

It also helps to prevent politics and governments from abandoning money and shifting all buying&selling to computerized methods. This would be the end of a printed money bill. This is one of the last freedoms left to us in a free world.

Right - how about high-end boutiques in Siam Paragon ? Or high-class hookers in Jakarta ? wink.png

It all depends on who you think you can trust. I would not make a big difference between a high-end shop clerk to a lesser-high shop attendant. They all are liable to commit fraud with your card.

In Siam Paragon there are ATM at every corner, what you think they are for? Withdraw your cash and pay with cash. It saves you on credit card usage fees (1.5 -2.5 % of the sum payable) as well as minimizing the chance of fraud.

And a high class hooker in Jakarta would be THE LAST PERSON ON EARTH I WOULD HAND OVER MY CREDIT CARD !!!!

  12. I think that it would be interesting to hear the other side of the story before accepting thse protester's claims as genuine. The concept of "abandoned land" is novel; national parks encroachers claiming ownership because of length of illegal tenancy is a bit old; and the demand to waste valuable national energy and water resources so that someone can go fishing borders on the sublime.

what if someone told them how to do sustainable fishing ? These people fish everything that moves in water with nets so tight that no baby fish can escape. It would be better if they breed fish in small tanks, then set them free in the above dam waters, and give them time to grow to a size acceptable to sustainable fishing. When netting, they must throw back all fish that are smaller than a thumb. If just anyone told them. But these people are uneducated and fish until the last baby fish has disapeared from the reservoir and the adjacent rivers, and then start to demonstrate in front of parliament "give us back the fish"

    Indeed, bordering the sublime . . . . .

  13. Somtam. There only one way to make real Somtam, and only in Thailand. nowhere else in the whole world. Only in Thailand. Fermented fish sauce ( Pla Ra) and rancid crab fingers (the older the better, which you can rate by the amount of bottleflies it attracts) . Where's my prize for the correct answer ?

  14. Somsak should go back to school. Maybe there he will learn that "result" is based on "effect". He sounds like a child trying to explain that it is all foreigners fault that the tourism sector of Thailand has flaws . . . wake up and get back to work!

  15. the beaches get dirtier every year, and the infrastructure gets worse. The dirt piles up eveywhere, and the stench from rubbish bins and sewer canals can be detected when you are at Jomtien and Pattaya beach. The city administration cares a shit about it, the beach chair vendors are stripped by the city administration, and nobody feels responsible. Thailands beaches , and I have seen Hua Hin, Cha Am, Patong, Krabi and a few more, are on a BIG decline in quality and cleanliness. It is a shame. Thais are using their weekends to litter miles over miles of beaches and don't give a damn. It shows where these country is headed at. The Dump of Asia.

I often wonder WHAT makes tourist think they spend a class holiday on Jomtien or Pattaya or Hua Hin ? The water is fulla sewer waste, there is plastic floating in it, the beaches are a dump and so on, and they get extorted by beach chair sellers and get annoyed and disturbed by hundreds of peddlers who try to sell them their same same rubbish year for year. Everywhere there is leftover of stinky somtam crab arms, fermenting with the rest of the rubbish. After weekends, Jomtien and Hua Hin beaches look like a city dump.

I really wonder. Maybe it is the good climate and the availibility of cheap sex. nothing more and nothing less. It just cannot be the quality of their beaches. If you'd run a vote, Thailands beaches will rank among the lowest of the list.of beaches worth visiting.

  16. What a load of crap. Brand products don't go cheaper when the Dollar looses. . they keep the price up. Exports suffer . . but it's not these consumerists who feel the impact. The comments on how much cheaper travelling abroad is silly, the tourists will be shocked by the prices they find abroad. It is still out of the reach for most Thais.

I am smelling a bubble, a slow inflating one. The 2001 bubble was faster. This one is a vulcano that will start with a series of surprises before it's imapct is fully understood
