What is the appeal of marrying a 17 year old ?
Don't want to sound nasty but I think I can explain: the young and inexperienced one is almost like a blank sheet of paper - you can teach her whatever you fancy, program to be your ***-doll, convince her that your freakiest perverted fantasies are just normal, everybody do that and so and so on.
You can't do it with 25+ and obviously that's the main reason.
PS: Meanwhile older women got similar approach to young boys, but that disgusting as well, but often they pay well.

It wasn't that long ago On Nut was the end of the BTS line and there was nothing there but Tesco, the market across the road, and plenty of cheap little fan rooms where all the Sukhumvit workers lived.
What's it like now? Surely, must be better?
Hm, I used to visit a factory over there [long ago] and that was a <deleted>hole, later went there few times, last time it was few years ago. IMO Onnut (from start till Sukhumvit) is pretty sh**ty area to live. Yet, few friends are living there and like it! Figures...
Nonthaburi is nice and way more affordable than Bangkok Metro, cleaner and more quite. But I'd stick to Saphan Kuay area: Chatuchak and fun night district. Love it!
Also, there're plenty of ways to get to Chonburi over weekend, go nuts and return to BKK saying "what happened in Pattaya stays in Pattaya". Very convenient.

For those who somehow related to schools a.k.a. "teechas" - you meet thai kids daily personally and you got first hand experience with 'em.
My point is: even 17 years thai girl still has a mind of a child, unable to sort things rationally. Sorry to say that but its just a dumb kid. And not just a kid, but rural dumb kid from remote village. What consent?Old fart lured her into "You show me yours I'll show you mine" game.
Disgusting!- 10

Bangkok for some weird reason. I know its polluted, stinky, sometimes overcrowded, but....
I think it depends on the location: I can't imagine how folks live at Onnut, but I used to live at Pracha Sonkro (Sonklo?) near Huay Kwang market and assume that's similar <deleted>. Also used to live few years in a condo on 23 floor - night view is great but than they built megamall and life became horrible with honks and whistles. Finally ended with a house in moo baan - quite, peaceful, great neighbors, cleaner air, but than there came floods and power shortages.
IMO Bangkok is not the right place to live unless you have to be there for business/work/job. Friend got whole townhouse at Kampenphet Soi 70-something for mere 4,xxx /month and it looks amazingly different, consider its just few kilometers from Wong Wieng Yay.

Too much for peace-loving thais, but it doesn't seem unusual ever since. She thought about this unthinkable cruelty as a "lifehack" of easy money.
And yet this story is sickening.

Ah! farang teachers of [so-called] International Schools. or bilingual schools. Or International programs in Thai schools.

The list of Embassies is more than funny: seems that BiBs planned European tour for New Year based on "cooperation" and of course paid by their office. Maybe they forgot that there is an organisation dealing exactly with international police cooperation called "Interpol"?
Or they want [say] Ebmassy of Slovenia pass some lists to TRP quasi-officially? Is it even legal?
Obviously they sent "cooperation request letter" to all embassies in the Kingdom, most simply ignored of politely refused such an offer. Behold the list of the dumbest:
QuoteAustria, Belgium, the UK, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia and Switzerland.
PS: where is Poland?

I think the revenue from tourism is greatly overestimated. Guides, rent shops, beer bars and bar girls, travel agencies - they all pay almost no taxes. I used to work with few = one launder payments through her German personal account (don't ask how), others deal with cash and middle men. Hotels? Same scheme: hotel (resort, whatever) run by banana company registered at some rice field far North for few years, later switched to another service/managing company while money flow through their accounts. Even that W* resort with villas and private pools at Samui, not to mention A* hotel at Phayathai Rd. Bangkok that sorry building with proud name of Grand Ay**** at Ratchada.
I wouldn't call "grey money" or even "black cash" legit revenue of the country.

for more than 20+ years been asked only once: at border crossing with Malaysia some "Bazaar-something" by very tired IO lady at her tiny booth. She didn't even ask, just mentioned. And luckily I had that amount with me.
However last (pre-COVID) years there were many stories (rumors) about ppl denied entrance due to lack of funds and insurance. The last thing I want is to engage with IO at the border.

"Silpa-archa" - sounds like I've heard this name before. Some relative on his carrier ladder?

Is homeschooling an option here?
Good question. One can pull his kid from school, do "homeschooling" ok, but I don't think it would be qualified or acknowledged as an education. Meanwhile (as I learn with Assumption) they don't really require previous education records - just pay for (so-called) study and here you go. Same goes with Regent's IS and that uber-fancy school nearby.
So shortly - yes, you can do "homeschooling", yet latest 2 years of COVID "remote learning" went complete banana.

And to be on the safe side, keep the US passport well out of sight. Some Thai Immigration Officers don't understand or agree with the concept of dual nationality and like to mess you around.
Yes, I've seen IO at CW (about 2016-ish, female captain) who was very convinced that dual citizenship is not allowed in Thailand, based on assumption that (well Dah!) this is the Kingdom. She was very serious about it.

I think the thread went into slightly wrong direction and rather "can you speak Ingliz" instead of "why farang teachers can make a sentence in thai".
Complete nonsense : foreigner with a "clicker" switching through PowerPoint presentation talking about let's say basic astronomy: stars, constellations, black holes, event horizon, gravitational pull and <del> like that.
None even listen to him for 2 reasons: his using terms that are completely unknown to kids and he is unable to explain using thai language. Well the third reason is he doen't know much about it too, but lets stick to 2 reasons )))
It was waste of time and well money we paid.

my experience on this dark subject: dude jumped from 23rd floor into swimming pool. sent his body to nearby morgue. later his mother arrive to Thailand, Bangkok. Some rep. asked for 50K to arrange cremation etc. but rep. from Embassy asked him to get lost and buried the body somewhere near BKK at local christian cemetery. Mother paid only basic fees.
Meanwhile in Pattaya fella died (2015?) and it cost a hell to his girlfriend (wife but not wife) to cremate his remains. She said it was a nightmare + almost $2K in bribes + THB12K for furnace services.
Body's donation is very noble act, but is it applicable for us, mere farangs?

Obviously uneducated teachers can't teach something better than themselves. Talking about BKK - farang so called "teachers" are even worse, hope the Ministry of Education will get rid of them one day.

Well, goodbye PayPal then ) or rather sayonara - if you pass anything technologically advanced to local company that would mean "same-same kaput".
Honestly, with crypto-wallets this days, who need this anyway? 4% fee? seriously? ROFL

some really ugly people come and "buy" scrap and plastic. However their scales are "fixed" to show 1 lt of bottle w/water weights only 200gr. Crooks? Nope - street smart businessmen )
as the OP: yes. they do separate waste in BKK, pls don't put Thailand too low, even if your name is Chalanlak and your parents sent you abroad.

seems like #FAKENEWS^^^

If you are going to spend any time in Thailand it might help if you understood the local most popular book publications, which cannot be mentioned of course. Buddhism does not seem to have a problem with killing for meat, capturing birds and turtles to release for money or cock fighting. The status of soi dogs has very little to do with Buddhism, a lot to do with the unmentionable.
Exactly. Let me add something even more quasi-buddhistic: torchure of elephants while training them to obey.
I'm completely against anything stray: cats with ringworms feeding at the kindergarten dump, strange looking mongrels fed by local "tam-booners" and "motocy" ppl.Comes to mind scandals few years ago with corrupt funds of "street dogs".
The Buddhism is so messed-up here

yeah, sure-sure, false merit it is. [in our moo ban] we got similar old woman that feed rice'n'sardines to cats, and another wierdo that feeds stray dogs. Dogs were so happy they started to bark and other fun almost every night.
Ended with rat poison. Not a pleasant scene.

70+ years old villager - what a great story: "The boatman's call"
My guess is she will dump him within a year and either go complete banana at her mooban or join working sisters in tourist areas.
But one thing you're absolutely right - her future is very bleak.
