Storm goes POOF! For all the predictions, warnings, and exciting pictures, what a let down. A little rain on and off. And it's messed up my plans to go out on the kayak Sunday. If there's a storm, I wanna see a real storm.
Yep, sort of looks like it's gone past...
but then again "we" could be opening our mouths too early. Ha. Ha.

Funny how different weather websites can be.
Look at this one & it looks like it is south & curently west of Cnx, not going north into Burma.
-
All quiet on the northern front. No wind last night. Anyway it's coming closer.
Coming closer, but probably not heading directly this way & now going into Northern Myanmar.

After Carrefor, turn left at the first soi signposted Cnx Businees Park & Khantoke __? (not the Living Index soi) & go down 270 metres to the first intersection.
From memory it was in the big white? building on the right hand side, just before the intersection.
1 month ago it was still there.
If the above does not work, it could be on the left side, but I dont think so.
After the intersection there is the huge Mae Wang computer / mobile phone shop & the immig office was definitely before MaeWang, & I think on the right (opposite) side to Mae Wang. But if it's not on the right watch out on the left, same side as Mae Wang. I hope this does not confuse you too much.
Sorry I did not get a GPS waypoint at the time.

1.The coulded animal wasn't catch from the wide. It was lost from somewhere (we never know) and went inside the human house. Then the house owner called the government to take it out from their house. After that the government don't know how to do so that they gave it to Tiger Kingdom Maerim to take care.
Opps..!!
Sorry!! I mean the clouded leopard...
Wow that is an interesting but somewhat puzzling post. I would like to know from Pim
1) Who are you Pim? You work at the Tiger park? or are the owner? Why didn't you disclose your position?
2) Which Thai Visa forum user alerted you about this topic and helped you sign up as a new user less than 2 days ago?
3) If another user helped you reply to this post and I am guessing interviewed you and helped write the postings then why didn't you mention the helpful user?
WOW. That is an interesting, but somewhat puzzling post by Mr. CobraSnakeNecktie!!
I think that joliepim was actually trying to help & contribute something.
But BTW who the hel_l are you CobraSnakeNecktie – a cowardly Mr. Anonymous with a totally zero profile, no age, no location, & no gender!
Before you start trying to anonymously put shit on someone who’s actually trying to help in a language other than their native language take a look at yourself first. I mean who the fuc_k are you? It would appear as if you’ve been anonymous ever since 2006, not just a few days.
I had a few I think legitimate questions. No apologies for that. Why take a few questions personally DavdGTR? No accusations if you read my post but I am suspicious by nature. I would like to hear more from Pim for clarification. Where is he by the way? Maybe he will come back. Does it not strike anyone strange that he would log and open an account just for this thread? Do you buy things on ebay from sellers with no feedback or past transactions?
Let me explain myself a bit. If someone had a question about my company and I provided "expert" or inside info then I would be quick offer that I am a "junior software engineer" or a middle manager etc. Why is that important? because it establishes credibility and accountability. If I wanted no credibility or personal accountability then I would offer vague or no details about my expertise.
If Pim is on the level then those are easy questions to answer. Proverbial softballs IMO. My more piercing questions would come later when we get Pim back in the thread.
I have nothing against Pim or the "no animal abuse in Thailand" folks but would welcome more info to give his "testimony" more weight. I truly haven't made up my mind about animal abuse but would like to contribute to a quality debate as opposed to blindly accepting a few paragraphs.
Sorry if I have tweaked anybody out there and though I don't remember my prior racist comment I apologize for offending anybody. Feel free to PM me on that one. What was the racist remark?
As the one who originally posted & started this thread with a tip off, it makes me sick how some of you guys have nothing else to do, but nitpick & try to run people down, some of you "anonymously."
CobraSnaketie someone tries to help, your question their credibility, because you don’t know who they are.
But you still wish to remain anonymous & draw them out so perhaps later on you can score some points & drag them or their establishment down, because maybe you think you know better.
I still say who are you - just another faceless anonymous TV frequent poster (who refuses to reveal even 1 aspect of his profile)? But it is ok for you to remain faceless / anonymous, because you want to justify your position questioning someone else's credibility as you consider your questions are valid. It works both ways & surely you understand that.
But to continue will only destroy this thread with it degenerating into yet another wasteful nitpicking point scoring exercise.
I hope some of you enjoyed the tip off for the Tiger Park & Restaurant. It is a nice half-day out with the kids, regardless of your / our personal ethics.

Try Gung at Mt Mechanic for cheap prices on their Jazz.

I'd recommend at least 3 nights 4 days minimum. Any less & you are going to want to go back & see what you've missed.
1 night Pai
1 night Soppong, (really late start from Pai. 1 - 1 1/2 hrs Pai - Soppong)
1 or 2 nights Mae Hong Son
1 night Mae Chaem / Mae Sarieng.
If you enjoy driving on R1095 then take R1263 Khun Yuam - Mae Chaem - Doi Inthanon back to Chiang Mai.
If you thought R105 was a bit too tight & steep, then return to Cnx via R108, it is a much faster smoother more flowing drive than R1263. But if you enjoy the tighter more twisty forested stuff then take R1263.
Take your time & overnight in Mae Chaem or Mae Sarieng on the way back, to give yourself time on Doi Inthanon.
In a hurry, then start off early & do it all MHS - Cnx in a day.
For great side trips on the way, consider
Rak Thai / Mae Aw
The long necks at Nai Soi
the War Museum in Khun Yuam is interesting for some people (please yourself but take a look)
Meo Microwave (incredibly steep narrow & winding)
Wat Mae Pang is very pretty
Doi Inthanon (the highest mtn) via Chaem & either R1263 or via R1088
In Pai hit the Bebop Pub, after 10pm.
If you stay in Soppong (backpacker free) stay at the Soppong River Inn. A real hidden gem in North Thailand. Or if you want to swim stay at the Little Eden, another beautiful place but with a pool.
In Mae Hong Son don't miss a traditional 2hr Thai massage at Baan Thai, the best in North Thailand!
In Mae Hong Son hit the Crossroads Pub (say hello to Nok the bartendee) & Chalet disco (say hello to La the singer.)
Enjoy it all. It's good fun. Ha. Ha.

The next Chiang Mai ToyRide event is scheduled for May 18th.
Check out Chiang Mai Toy Ride for more info.
Also for the skeptics a financial statement on the event to show full transparency & prove that the event is non-profit & totally for charity helping kids in North Thailand.

No hanky panky & no hidden agendas with organizers making money.
Just a non-profit event for charity helping kids.
A big THANK YOU to all those who donated & rode.
The next one is Samoeng. Event Number Three on 18 May!

I plan a trip to Chiang Rai on Tuesday but I'm told the road has been dug up just before Mae Kachang and that the surface is pretty bad. Has anybody been lately? How long will it add on to my trip and can it be avoided? I was thinking of taking the chm-phrao road and cutting across?
Kevin
If you've still got your pickup it should be a piece of cake.
I was last up there a few weeks ago & it was dirt from the hot springs to Mae Kachan, a distance of 15 kms, but honestly it is not bad. Only dusty if there's no rain or too much traffic at the time.
With a good pick-up & good suspension, there’s almost no need to slow down; & I certainly don't on my African Twin bike with a 21 inch front wheel – it eats up the bumps.
It's still quicker via Mae Kachan.

There are sound Trucks going around with election type signs on the sides, as well as posters
around for various candidates.
What is this Election for and how many elections have we now had in the past 4 months.
Not sure, but one of the candidates looks very much like the guy last year who was happily chest deep in a river full of blofish.
Say "Tain't So Bubba"
Yep PAO (Provincial Admin Office) elections I think they are & the date is Sunday May 11.
Check out Chiang Mai Mail for info.

I'm aware of the CK/HX crossing but was wondering if anyone had more recent information on the Botan/Mohan one.
What do you need to know. The border's open & if you have a Chinese visa you can enter China.
I was out there in Feb this year. Take a look at The Luang Prabang Loop on the GT Rider forum, for photos of the road & border crossing in 94/95 & 2008.
-
And can you cross the border at that point?
The border at Chiang Khong / Houei Xai has been open for years, as has the Lao - China crossing Boten - Mohan.
I used both of them for motorbike trips from Chiang Mai in 1995.
-
Still a mystery to me where this is located. I drove up and down but didn't see anything high end quality wise. Where is it in relation to the pink colored Sintana resort building? Any other landmarks? Is it near the road or set back etc? on the mountain (west side) of road?
this any help

So what if we are called farang or not?
Come on you guys....get a life.
It's great living here here - if it was that bad we wouldn't be here would we?

Wow, here was a new one for me: The Mae Rim Tiger Park & Restaurant.
In Thai, but click on the Tiger Kingdom link for photos.
I couldn't believe it until Id seen it with my own eyes & it's for real.
Excellent food & service, & worth checking out with the kids.
Anyone else been out there?
Sorry no photos, because I didn't have my camera as I'd just ducked out for a beer & bike test ride. You know how it goes.
Can you tell me how to get there please? My son loves tigers and I love beer!
It's on the Mae Taeng - Hang Dong irrigation canal out at Mae Rim.
To get there from Chiang Mai, take R107 North to Mae Rim
Go past Mae Rim & turn left onto R1096 the "Mae Sa Valley road."
Go down R1096 267 metres to the irrigation canal.
At the irrigation canal, turn right & head "north."
Go 700 metres along the irrigation canal & turn left, go 100 metres & you're there.
Note with the irrigation canal, there are roads either side of it. The road on the east (Mae Rim side) is better than the one on the west (Mae Sa side.)
Go at dusk when it's cooling off & the cold beer tastes best.
-
I just went & had a couple beers in the restaurant at dusk.
To be honest it didn't look the place where you get in with the tigers, unless you had a few too many beers & then you'd end up with one hel_l of a hangover.
There was no entry fee to go & have some food 'n drink.

With hindsight I should have slowed down when I spotted this large group by the side of the freeway, but between downtown CM and my home 20 km outside CM there are A LOT of these groups throwing water by the side of the road - if I slow down every time I see one of these groups then it's going to take a long time driving home.n the face with filthy water.
You said it: I should have slowed down! You bad mouth the locals, knowing precisely what is going on on, but continue on as normal at 60kph & get hit in the face. If you know so much, & the locals are throwing water so dangerously why continue at a dangerous speed?

I'm off to Richco. Haven't got a bike but would like to meet these two birds.
Arh. Check out the PGs at Yamaha Grand opening & ride too.

Got the baby fake harley 175 Boss and looking for some grocery carrying saddle bags and generally asking where the best CNX Kawasaki dealer is..thanks,Jack
The official Kawasaki dealers are on Chang Moi road, just before Ratchawong.
But your best bet would be to go to
CHIANGMAI BIKER SHOP
97-98 Mahidol Rd, opposite New Star. Tel: 053 200190.
