  1. Big Deal on the double pricing. Let the locals who generally make much less than foreign visitors pay less. I remember living in Souhern California and Disney land used to provide discounts to those in Southern California as well as a Magic Mountain theme park. Even beaches that charged entry fees were either discounted or free for locals and schools have higher non-resident fees and prices. But despite this, if you are worried about 200 baht then probably not wise to waste your money on a place like this. On the other hand if this would be fun and exiting place to take yourself or kids then you're only doing a disservice to yourself. At least kid prices seem to be the same across the board.

Edit: If you work in Thailand (permit) you get the Thai price.

BS to the extreme, a Thai worth billions can get in dirt cheap but a family on a 2 week holiday have to pay the foreigners price. SICK

Your attitude stinks to high heaven, just disgusting --it IS a big deal and needs to stop, if you want tourists so bad. The locals are paying the going price, the foreigners are being fleeced. GET IT.

Spending 50,000 bht on an air ticket to pay the lower prices is a bonus, do not forget they got you here, why rob them after they arrive.

I'm having a senior moment, I agree with you!

The Cali analogy has zero to do with this situation .. We pay state employment tax, property tax and school tax. Not relavence to this situation. In Chiang Mai last year, our classic car club took 50 orphans for a Sunday out to the " place with animals". All enter for free except...... You guessed it, the farangs who drove the orphans and spent there generous time and energy to give those kids a nice day out. Completly ruined by these unmentionable folks in charge of the........ Dispicable!

  2. Why just Bangkok

Why does the Police have to be told to do their job...

Instead of informing the Police, why dont they dismiss the commanders of stations that allow illegal parking and other nonsense to continue... Im sure it would be more proactive than keeping the useless commanders employed! They did it to the useless PM...

Because that police commander paid a handsome fee for his position and if you think he is going to be dismissed and walk away without a fight, you are mistaken. What do I mean by " fight". I leave that to you.

  3. ASN really pulled a fast one on us. I signed-up for the TrueVisions "Super-Knowledge" package because it had ASN with the NFL. Now they've moved the NFL over to ASN2 which can only be had by purchasing the "Platinum" package which costs much more and has stations that don't interest me. I'm considering dropping the whole damn TrueVisions subscription and going online.

Got me once too. Never, ever will I do biz with this outfit again. Had to go and file a police report to get my deposit back because they sent it to the wrong address. Unbelievable!

  4. I saw a Lamborghini towing a plow near nam phong last week.

Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app

Thats different than i see a ford tractor beeing pulled out of a deep ditch by a flock of waterbuffalos

How do you call a large group of waterbuffalos ?.

I believe that the collective noun is a flotilla!

    A gaggle.......or perhaps water buffalii......

  5. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

It appears that we have been defaulted on , the missus bought a 1.5 in December 2012 with the promise of 100,000 back from the government and we still have nothing

The missus has never previously had a car in her name ?

Nope she passed her test in 2012 and we got a fiesta for her. She went with a bit of an angry mob to Bangkok in April this year and they promised everyone would get their money. Ive read up about it once and apparently it should happen in this tax year. To be honest its not really hurting us financially but I imagine it is hurting some people. It also doesn't instill much confidence if future "Schemes" are introduced

We bought ours in December 2012 also. Payment was delivered as promised in December of 2013. And to the poster who said the tax rebates stopped the same time as the rice payments to farmers.........wrong!

  6. Thanks again, Thailander. Next time I mail a letter I will take into consideration the annual profits of the carrier.

"We the people, in order to form a more perfect union, turn big profits,...." No that's not how it goes, is it?

On topic; one option when the premium/payout ratio gets too ridiculous and you're in good health is to just carry accident insurance.

I figure I'm much more likely to need treatment for traffic related or other accidents than for disease.

    Comments?

Yes, accident insurance is a very reasonable alternative here in Thailand once the premiums get to be so high that you don't want to pay for comprehensive medical insurance.

I do suggest that you have a couple million baht salted away, though, for that final illness.

Yes, I guess accident insurance could be helpful, but how much does it cost and how much coverage is there? Looking at Bangkok Insurance Public Company Limited cost up to age 65, under the top plan offerred at 2480 baht you get 30,000 baht medical expenses covered for any one accident. That's not much, and wouldn't coverage over 65 have some exclusions, like riding a motorcycle? How much would this policy cost for people over 65?

Perhaps there are some other accident policy options. This Bangkok insurance is cheap and better than nothing, but it doesn't cover much in the way of medical costs except if something gruesome happens like loss of life, eyesight, hearing, speech or dismemberment or total permanent disability from an accident. There's also some very limited coverage for a year for loss of family income, total permanent disability.

Automobile insurance offers much more than that (at higher cost because a lot of other things are covered) but, say up to 100,000 per person, not 30,000 for one person.

Personal accident insurance doesn't seem to do much for plugging the hole. Otherwise, 2 million set aside is a very good idea, should you have 2 million.

Does any other company sell accident policies covering medical care to motorcyclists ? Is it solvent ?!

Some of my bike riding mates are using insurance from the GT Rider web site. I am looking into this soon as my Bupa just went through the roof after 4 years.
  7. I have that policy for 4 years now. Just got my renew notice and new premium is 97k! What now?

Is your agent playing games with you? It's possible. A friend of mine (same age as me) paid 56k for BUPA platinum and I pay 45.6k currently.

I will be having a meeting to discuds this at the office after bhuda days......i have been very happy with bupa until this renewal. My policy also covers my wife so....actually prem was 62k last year. Now 97k for the 2 of us. Ridiculous!

  8. I've had the BUPA platinum policy since 2008, so about six years now. The annual price didn't budge until I hit 50, then it went up a few thousand baht. As long as you sign up before 60 you can continue indefinitely. If you are over 60 or 65 I don't think they will take you on.

I would pay roughly 4.5 times that for coverage in the US.

Thanks for that rodger. I am under 60 and agree the increase were minimal every year until this one. I had a surgery of 180k at ram. If they are going to jack the rate due to a large surgery claim in a given year, then i am done with bupa. Will they lower the premimium next year if no claims? What other options do i have? I invested in bupa as my insurance provider based on several factors. Factors that are proving false 4 years later.

  9. Yes they just opened yesterday. Talking with Dave last night and he said it was going good a little more work to do on the bread and it would be perfect. With Dave doing it you can be assured of quality and cleanliness.

You do realize it is Dave from Dukes.

As we know from the Dukes and the River Market Dave and Quality go hand in hand though I am surprised he opened up another restaurant at Promenada, certainly will give it a try in the near future.

And rumor has another one coming soon. Mexican!!! At promanada. The mall that loves to feed!

  10. I am pretty sure immigratio will send you abroad to get a new ED-visa. Also officially you could not continue your internship if being on a 15 day visa exempt entry.

Another option is to ask the university to send you paperwork to apply for a new ED-visa, instead of only hopping over the border. But that wil take a few days.

Great point . That would disqualify me for the internship. I gues I will play it by ear and worst case , come back on the 28 for the CM appointment . Perhaps just cancel my work contract short........

  11. You can mail your 90 day report in, or go to a nearby immigraiton office (but in that case be sure to have some proof of address, like a hotel bill to show you are staying in their area).

I think you are on an extension of stay. If you leave Thailand you will lose your permission to stay and woud need to apply for a new ED-visa abroad. Best is to return to CM and take care of your extension there with the help of your school.

Thanks Mario, I have a work assignment ( internship) at centara. This contract for work should satisfy the 90 day local address requirement I think.????

I have an appointment in CM imm on may 28 to renew 1 year Ed. Unfortunately, my employment contract ends on June 15 th. the uni I attend will do all the nessasary paper work for the visa so I don't think, if I leave to Cambodia for 15 days extension, I will be denied a renew opportunity IN country. Not sure and the uni admin is worthless and inconsistent with their requirements. Perhaps a trip to cm immigration b 4 departure is advisable. Not sure what they would do. If anything! You can see my predicament is a bit unusual.
