  1. However look how close the Shrine is to the road. If they were locating it to B/K maybe they would locate away from the road etc. The tree looks to be the same as tree at Soi 6/1 and that area is a wide spot also.

Looks like big plans for all the Beach Rd to have large buildings etc.

After seeing some other photos today, I am starting to agree with you.

  2. Thanks ChangFai, I remember seeing that somewhere awhile back. After some study you might be correct on Beach/Klang location as you could make out the wide beach area and B/K Soi and Soi 7.

    You could be right.

I just presumed that was the refurbished Dolphin Fountain, the shrine was sitting beside.

  3. Looks like ChangFai post is correct. Shrine could be moved to Beach/Klang. Today the rear slab of Shrine was sawed off in a clean manner. Grading work just missed rear of shrine and road bed is so close.

My latest guess is that they will prep the move of Shrine to Beach/klang.

To answer you question, I was talking about the plans that were up on Beach Road.

I remember taking a photo of the one that was directly across from the old Mikes.

On it, you could see the Shrine was to be moved to the Pattaya Glang Junction.

Will try and find the pic.

  4. The Shrine at 6/1 Beach is next. If they were going to move it they would have started before now. Maybe use the demo equip to move or load on a truck. My bet is the next working day it will be destroyed..

Probaly not enough room to just move a few feet out of the way.

Going to be interesting, but their plans show it being moved to the Pattaya Glang intersection.

  5. According to the touched up drawing (see the first page of this forum) there will be more open space for sun and less trees. NOTE: I am curious how the "retaining" wall will hold up which the construction crew is building for the new lane and have the "experts" considered high tide?

A retaining wall to hold back the ocean?

Has anyone seen the 'improvements done in Naklua?

Wiped out in the first big storm leaving a gigantic mess.

Did they ever bother to fix it, or is it still in shambles? I'm going to take a stab and guess it sits a wreck.

No it was fixed ...... sort of !

  6. I have to admit long ago I had the large prawn tom yum noodles at Dang Dum and I was not very impressed with the broth but did like the prawns. However, I still think overall Dang Dum at the Avenue is a very welcome addition to the limited casual Thai options in the central touristic area.

I agree its a welcome addition (although there has been the Glang branch for decades).

But it has to be one of the worst value for money Tom Yams in town.

200 baht for 2 prawns and a stock made from Knorr !

  7. I barely set foot near beach road, the beach is dirty, you'd have to pay me to swim in the water and the beach chairs are a rip off anyways.. They can make it a 5 lane highway I couldn't care less as long as it keeps the tour buses away from buhakao-3rd road area and the gogos on WS stay open smile.png

Large Tour buses seem to be a fixture on BuaKhao, now the Indians tour groups are using Sawasdee.

One night, a bus is going to snag on the spaghetti of wiring and pull the whole lot down.

  8. I did not read ALL the FAQ, good as it is, but please, people, keep your credit cards and wallet dry in a bag, or better still, leave the credit cards at home. It can be expensive to have to replace them from your home country.

7-11 are already selling waterproof bags in various sizes that can be hung around your neck starting from 60 baht.

  9. Didnt want to travel far the other night, and as my favourite local Thai restaurant was closed, it was decided we should try the new branch of Daeng Dam.

Never often on that Soi that runs behind the Avenue nowadays, and only spotted the restaurant because a baht bus driver on Friday night decided he didn't want to go further up 2nd road ..... brilliant Walking Street to Soi LK Metro for 10 baht smile.png

For anyone who doesnt know Daeng Dam, the original is on Pattaya Glang and is long standing daytime place that always seems busy.

The new branch is described as a food center and is on the GF at the very back of the Avenue.

At first glance I was disappointed at the menu as it seemed to be all one dish type things with a couple of pages worth of noodle soups.

We wanted a couple of dishes for the centre of table.

So we ordered, Tom Yam Goong, Tawt Man Plaa, and Plaa Muek Pat Pong Gari.

First up was the Tawt Man Plaa (Thai Fish Cakes)

They were very nice, not chewy like so many places, and that they were served with some tempura and fried basil leaves was nice touch.

Plaa Muek Pat Pong Gari (Squid stir fried with curry powder)
Squid was very nicely cooked, not rubbery but the inclusion of tomatoes made the whole dish watery.
Tomatoes have no place in this sort of dish IMO

    And the Tom Yam.

Alarm bells should have rung when the waitress said they only had River Prawns left.

The prawns themselves were fine large fresh River Prawns and there was TWO of them.

The soup had clearly been made with Knorr, and was disappointing.

That this dish was 200 baht was disappointing and I know many places that can do it a lot better at half the price.

With two small Leos, the bill of 500 baht seemed expensive for what we had, but a lot of that was down to the 200 baht Tom Yam.

  10. I gave the beach another walk today.

It seems the work has really slowed down...I would say there is a small chance they are giving this whole thing a 2nd thought, considering the massive undertaking involved here...But I just might just be dreaming.

Plan was always to do it in stages.

And with Songkran upon us, I guess there will be a break for a couple of weeks.

  11. I live in Chiang Mai which is famous for wild Songkrans and I do not mind it here, but Pattaya sounds like it really sucks - putting up with all the inconsiderate yobs for 10 days whole days!

Yes it does. While I'm the biggest Songkran fan ever and look forward to it like it's Christmas, Pattaya is the worst place for it.

Then again I would probably still manage to find a good time, celebrating on the 19th in Naklua, Sri Racha or Sattahip.

(Though I'd just opt to visit Chiang Mai or Khon Kaen or something.)

    Naklua is the 18th.

  12. i found out the wideing will only go from the curve from pattaya nrth rd to the end of soi1

Are you sure about this ?

If you walk the length of Beach Road, its quite easy to tell whats going to be removed, by the markings on the trees and pavement.

no...i was told this by a local....we have all see stupid rediculous projects, but the beach is the soul of pattaya, this changes everything.....

But they have already gone past Soi 1.
