  1. The Hor Mok Talay was served in foil not a coconut (but that was clear from the menu). It was a small portion, OK tasting seafood, and OK tasting curry flavor. It was not really a STANDARD or what I would call a "real" version of this dish. It was more of a lazy version. It wasn't a mousse at all. Instead there some chunks of egg cooked into the dish. First time EVER that I have seen that kind of treatment of that dish. I wouldn't order again based on that, but really not bad for 100 baht if you don't mind the lazy execution.

I ate here once when it first opened late last year, and was as underwhelmed as your review.

Is Hor Mok not traditionally served in a banana leaf basket ?

Having said that, Leng Kee serves theirs in a coconut.

And it came more like scrambled egg than a mousse, but there was plenty of seafood in it, and tasty enough.

You tried Leng Kee's Hor Mok Jing ?

  2. Khrua Lung Sawai Restaurant 2 is still my choice.

You can either ride/drive towards Na Chom Tien, keeping an eye out for the Public Prosecutors office on the right. Turn right at the lights once you see it. The restaurant is at the end of the road there.

Otherwise, all the way to the end of Chom Tien beach road and then follow the road around until you arrive at the fishing village.

That's Huay Yai road, right? The restaurant is on that canal?

Yes, at the mouth of the canal.

  3. Moom Aroy on the Sukhumvit ?

The Moom Aroy I love is at the far end of Naklua.

Also a branch of Moom Aroy on 3rd road, same menu, just not the same view.

    Tangkay also good in Naklua.

    As is Plaa Tawng.

PooPen in Jomtien sometimes good, sometimes terrible, but probably the best of a bad bunch.

Poo Pen have several menus, one Thai, one English, one with photos, all prices were the same last time I looked (about a week ago.)

  4. The Golden Ferret on New Plaza, normally have Lamb Shanks (+veg, mash, gravy) on their specials board Fridays and Saturdays.

When on the specials board its 275 baht.

I (and the TeeRak) highly recommend it.

Much better than Punch & Judys, where I had Lamb Shanks once and was over 400 baht if I remember correctly.

  5. Personally, I stay away from places like Sunrise that charge the ++ to the final bill (17%) rather than adding the vat into the menu prices and allowing the customers to determine the tip left based on the quality of the service.

I dont mind them charging it; what annoys me is that they put "++" in order to make the advertised prices appear lower than they really are. They can be no other possible reason for them doing this and as far as I'm concerned it is just plain dishonest.

The advertised price should be the price you pay and that's all there is to it.

And in the case of VAT illegal.

  6. Did one the other week.

As I always do, I use The Visa Shop on Soi Buakhao.

    2200 baht all in.

Leave 6.30am back in Pattaya by 2.30pm.

The usual minibus, but a max. of 6 people.

Dont think any of the companies use Poi Pet nowadays, all use Pong Nam Ron which is much more user friendly, dont even have to cross the border anymore.

  7. .

Cryptic! Gotta love it. The plot thickens.

You know, I posted a few words on how I have passed this restaurant several times and then keep forgetting about it.

This first time I passed, in October, I noticed Szechuan on a sign and did a double take.

Then when I re-read the thread, I thought I was wrong and you's were talking about somewhere totally different so deleted comments.

So if it is this place (on the right hand side of third road when heading north, just past the flyover) its still on my to do list, but each time I have passed lately its looked busy, which is a good sign.

  8. Now if Changfai would return to this thread with directions as to where about in the Tuesday market the shop is located then I can have a look.Otherwise I will be the more expensive option of 40Bht at Friendship, but I think I can just manage that amount for a new years present to myself. biggrin.png

If coming from Pattaya Tai, enter the market on the right hand side.

I think it was the second aisle from the right, and about halfway in.

Just a stall selling cosmetics etc.

Sorry I cant be more specific than this but you know what the market is like.

  9. Wow.. you are the first I have ever heard mention it.. thanks for that. Is it accessible 24/7?

No idea, it is an exchange booth with an ATM attached, so you would presume so.

I only noticed the other week myself, as now they have closed that walkway along Dongtan beach to Pattaya Park, off to traffic, its been a favourite place for an afternoon stroll.

  10. Surprised that so many esteemed posters dont know that there is an Aeon ATM in Jomtien.

Instead of turning left onto Jomtien Beach Road, turn right onto Dongtan Beach and its about 20 yards in.
