  1. Dirty pig. It's losers like him that give the rest of us bad names. They come to Thailand thinking that every girl is a bar girl but this reprobate had a Thai gf so you think IT would know better.

In Thailand the law states that if 3 Thai's complain about a foreigner that they can be deported automatically but now she has pressed charges I would like to know the results. To bad he didn't do it to a ladyboy. He would have some pretty swolen nuts right now and some sore rib cages etc.

It's probably how he met the GF...so thought if it worked once...

  2. I join the consensus here that Kasikorn Bank is one of the best banks in Thailand. (I have also used Bangkok Bank and Bank of Ayudha.) I have never had a problem with them, they have many branches and sub-branches, and scores of working ATMs (unlike Bangkok Bank) and CDM and PUMs scattered around Pattaya. They also have a very useful "K-web" service you can sign up for that allows you to conduct internet transactions (hotel res or purchase airline tix, etc.) online via the Visa transaction network and the funds are debited from your account.

As also mentioned, security is very good with SMS allert service you can sign up for whenever a transaction occurs using the ATM/debit card and for major transactions, e.g., money transfers to outside accounts or web purchases, second-step verification via a SMS code sent to your mobile phone is required.

I am very happy with my K-bank banking experience.

  3. Efficient property agents in Pattaya cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

As already said, best to do it yourself if you are local and have the time...signs at Foodland, Friendship, and Big C (aka Carrefour), ads on Thai-Visa, Craig's List, Ebay (a friend of mine sold a remote Philippine resort on Ebay), etc. If your place shows well and priced realistically, it will sell if the word gets out.

  4. Fairtex Sports Club, best I have found in Pattaya...Google or pm me if you want details.
The details would be of general interest. Why not post them here?

Their website is very informative and comprehensive. If anyone has a specific question they want answered, they can pm me.

  5. Pao: Restaurant Review When: Feb 24 @ 8pm Where: Central (Klang) Pattaya Road - North side, midway between 2'nd and 3'rd Roads What I Ordered: - Coke can @ 50 Baht - Drunken Chicken Wings (Free Sample - 2pc) - Pan Fried Beef Pie (2pc @ 60 Baht) - Shrimp Wonton Soup @ 100 Baht - Ramen with Savoury Beef topping @ 70 Baht - Fried Squid @ 160 Baht Total Cost: 440 Baht (1 person) Overview: This place has a lot of potential (open for 3 months) but if they don't make a few changes they will be gone by the next high season. The food is really good and it would not take much change for it to be a profit making venture. The restaurant is double size (2 retail units) and the decor is very modern and has a HiSo feel. I was the only diner with the exception of a Farang/Thai couple who walked in/walked out when they looked at the menu and saw there was no Thai food for the Thai partner. They have 2 menus: a written dumpling menu, and a well photographed Photo book menu. The menu is varied (see Jingthing's previous post) but needs some additions to bring in the crowds). This is the first Asian restaurant I've even been to in the world that does not provide any table condiments (seasonings etc). The co-owner (young Chinese guy) has excellent English and is really interested in knowing what people think about his food and why they want to come to his restaurant. When my meal was finished he came over asking about my experience which turned into a 15 min conversation about his food and the Pattaya food scene. Review: Coke: Can for 50 Baht! Enough said. Drunken Chicken Wings: These looked totally unappealing in the photo (think boiled chicken winglets). I asked if this is how they looked and the guy said he'd let me sample them. although the flavor was good they were served cold! I think this item should be reserved for the minority who enjoy boiled chicken feet salad. A very Falang-unfriendly dish. Pan Fried Beef Pie: (2pc @ 60 Baht) Although a little bit pricey by Thai standards, they were very fresh & tasty and contained 'soup' inside (you have to be careful when making that first bite - I was warned) They are about 3" in diameter. Shrimp Wonton Soup: (100 Baht) 5 giant Wontons with traditional broth (you can also chose a different soup accompaniment). Delicious and fresh and good value. Ramen with Savoury Beef topping: (70 Baht) The ramen is a handmade thick udon style. Although a delicious dish, the problem was that it became tastier the more you got towards the bottom of the bowl (where the toppings congregated after mixing with the noodle). This is where having condiments would have been useful, the first few bites tasted of unseasoned pasta, thus having some table seasoning to add to the top of the dish would have been beneficial. Very good value. Fried Squid: (160 Baht) The best fried Squid/Calamari in Pattaya. It came with pickle garnish and lime wedges. Very fresh and lighly battered and well seasoned BUT the portion size was miniscule (think Tapas for 1), perhaps 1/3 the portion size you'd get in the West. Very poor value! Conclusion: Great food and great potential to be successful. I think the owners were a little over-ambitious with this restaurant considering it's location: They spent too much on decor and they could have made do with a single retail unit restaurant without the oversized tables & chairs, and oversized kitchen with a fancy double-doored fridge, but what's done is done, they now need to look towards the future and get the customers inside. I told the guy that he needed condiments. He acknowledged the customer walk-out mentioned above. I hinted that he needed to expand his menu (I told him I can only get my Fried rice noodle with beef fix from Foodland). I told him about his far away Jontiem competition (soon to up & leave from what's being said on the other thread). He recommended a good Thai restaurant: 'The Boat' on 2'nd Road, which I've never been but is currenly being praised on another thread by JT. I told him that Falang Expats are craving decent, authentic alternatives to both Thai food and the Touristy items readily available by the beach (F&C, burgers, steaks, pasta, pizza etc). He was interested when I told him about ThaiVisa and how this is the means we Expats find new places to go eat and that he had just been discoverd by the resident food expert JT. Jingthing I think you would enjoy having a talk with this guy, I think he's receptive to change for the better ($profit). I've told him you'll probably be back, so don't be shy, introduce yourself and get some free samples!
Pao: Restaurant Review (Followup) When: Feb 28 @ 1030pm What I Ordered: - Coke Can - Hot & Sour Soup with Shrimp Wontons - Pan Fried Pork Buns (6pc) - Shrimp & Egg @ 160 Baht - Deep Fried Pork Ribs @ 120 Baht (5pc) - Rice Noodle Roll with Beef Total Cost: 640 Baht (1 person)

I'll take Cherry's buffet twice for me or once as a couple OR two of their Sunday nite 4 course set-menu meals thank you! B 640 for one person for Chinese food in Pattaya is just daft :)

  6. I have heard it costs a lot more than thb800 for handling a couple of coconuts on Soi6.

Actually that's the going rate for a couple of fresh coconuts :)

  7. What a waste of money ,and there have been accidents already ,where people have clipped the wavey bits that stick out ,level with the road.,why cant the powers to be do more about the pavements along beach road ,not poncing about with dumb lights.

I drive this road almost every day and I can assure you that the decorative wavy curve elements of the poles do not enter the plane of on-coming traffic. The ends of them are parallel to the curb so unless the driver is driving up on the medium or is an extremely wide load (in which case they should be in the left lane) they will have no problem.

It still does not change the fact that they have already been the cause of accidents .

    Installation damage.

  8. Also any salon that has ladyboys working in it. Most Thai woman go to the ladyboys when they want to get all dollied up or beautified to go out on the town etc. Also most ladyboys speak English.

    Excellent advice.

Thai women know a good thing when they see it...so do smart male farangs :)

  10. The watch department at Central Department Store at Central Beach Mall. There is a general watch repair guy but he's not an authorized representative for the high-end brands. Go to the counter selling Tag watches and they can have it cleaned/battery changed at an authorized repair facility (probably have to send to Bangkok).

  11. What it is with business owners in Thailand (or anywhere) who think it is their right to violate the copyright's of music/video creators by playing such materials for their own monetary benefit in their commercial businesses? How would they feel if the owners of these rights came to their shops and just took money out their tills that they didn't earn?

Instead of stealing the intellectual property of others, why not do the proper thing and either (1) Purchase a commercial license for the music/video one want's to play in one's business, (2) Pay a local musician/band to record some nice background music and obtain the license for it, of (3) Download from the internet music that is either in the public domain or has been provided to the public under a general public license by the artist, i.e., it is not copyrighted.

  12. I still like many of their own "homemade" breads and pastries and their [mod edit] brand butter (which has been out of stock for a while). Sometimes they also have good buys in their electronics/home appliance section and I have found their staff to be helpful and friendly when I have needed assistance. As to prices, I don't really pay attention and I just buy whatever I want...fortunately, I am in a position to do this.

  13. Why can't I ever pick up your signal? Why not buy a signal booster or something!
    Where are you located?

I use the FM radio tuner in my smartphone (HTC Desire running Android Froyo). Using the headphones (as the required antenna) I have tried to tune-in at various places around town (today it was at the Amazon Cafe at the PTT station on Sukie between Central and North) and I get the Thai stations right to the right and left of 105 on the "dial" but only static at 105.

  14. it is about 18 months to 2 years since I was there last and it was a stinking rubbish pit then and getting worse.

There is no education system in Thailand to teach to stop dumping crap all over it.

I have just come out a 7/11 where the girl wanted to give me a plastic bag for a bottle of juice I had already started drinking as I was paying for it.

If its not in polystyrene or plastic then its not edible in LOS.....I was also on Shukumvit near the underwater world where a spill of plastic used shampoo bottles were scattered for about 50 mtrs - no one is going to clean it up. It will just get washed down the the already clogged drains.

Does any of the Condo sales people ever think that piles of rotting garbage the length and breadth of the town might just be putting potential buyers off ???

Point in case is the new 2nd road in Jomtien...or in Thai...this way to the local landfill folks...!!! come and dump all your garbage in Jomtien - not even the Tourists will notice never mind the locals.

Thanks for the tip...I've got some household trash I need to get rid of.

As for the dirty beaches, serves the toffs who buy these beach-front condos right for moving to and bidding up the price of everything in Pattaya.
