  1. BTW, my opinion is that there IS a good local demand for authentic excellent fresh handmade corn tortillas just as there is in the US and Mexico. Of course if no place offers them, that can't be proven.

Don't really think so as there aren't 100M or so Mexicans in Thailand like there are in Mexico; nor 10M or so illegal Mexican immigrants in Thailand like there are in the United States.

  2. Had my first chance to see and sit in a real truck at the Ford dealership in Pattaya. They currently have one blue 2.2 XLT in stock for customers to check-out. I did not test drive the vehicle. My initial impressions are that the truck looks great from the outside and definitely has the macho-chops of a high-end truck. However, the interior really let me down. The layout of everything is fine (for a truck) and it's plenty roomy but the cheapo hard plastic everywhere looks as dated and not much better than my current 8 year-old Toyota Sportrider. Another thing I noticed from just a sit-down in the cap is the exterior field of vision seemed smaller to me than my current ride. The area of the glass seemed to be significantly smaller all around on all the panes of glass. If this is actually true, this would be a major downer to me as one of the reasons I like the high-up driving position of SUVs/trucks is the improved road visibility from the high driving position.

After this look-see, I would wonder about spending about B 1M on this vehicle. One thing I know for sure, I will definitely wait for a look at the upcoming Chevy Trailblazer before making any final decision.

  3. I too was a fan of New York Pizza until last week when I spent the day on the toilet. Serves me right, it didn't taste quite right and I still eat it. Ham and Mushroom was what I had but I am sorry if I have "OFF" food once I wont be going back.

Sorry about your misadventure, however, if I followed your rule, I wouldn't have anywhere to eat in Pattaya. Unfortunately, food can be contaminated at many points along the food chain (not necessarily at the restaurant either) and if just a fact of life when one eats out (in any country).

  4. I too have become a big fan of New York Pizza. I find their ingredients tasty and of high quality and they are generous with them as well. They also deliver to the Farside very quickly (and keep a database of numbers/addresses for future orders). I agree the pizza dough is tasty and they use some corn-bread flour layer on the bottom, which is a nice touch as well. My only complaint about the crust is that it can be a little hard on the bottom. It is not burnt but just hard...I don't know if the dough doesn't have enough moisture in it when it's popped into the over.

What I really like, however, is that in addition to the standard tomato sauce, they also have a white garlic sauce, which to me is twice or thrice as yummy as any tomato sauce (find tomato sauce makes a pizza too acidic and sometimes soggy/watery). Prices are also very competitive and I find the pies a very good value for size (generous).

My standard order is a "thick normal" crust (which is really just a "normal" crust to an American... nothing "thick" about it), pepperoni, salami, and olives, with the garlic sauce. Aroy Maak Maak licklips.gif

  5. There are several Muslim temples in Pattaya, including the big one on the west-side of Sukhumvit Road near Central Road. I would suspect that if you took a Thai person there and spoke to the imam ("priest") he could give you all the details and probably do the arrangements.

  6. I ate there last week. Cod was OK. Large piece and well cooked with crispy batter. As for the chips...big "steak" chips which were soft and soggy. Not to my liking. I was asked if I wanted small, medium or large portion, and opted for medium. Small would have been enough. There is also the option of french fries instead of chips. As I like crispy, maybe that would have been the wiser choice. Nice pot of tea.

Thanks Bahtboy. I just went by Jolly Friars in Jomtien and there is a very large sign out front that says: Fish and Chips 100 baht! Maybe it is a special to get people to try the new location. I will try it in the future and report back.

I like their local Dorey F&C's at their soi Diana location...big piece of tender white fish and thick cut fries...douse the fish in tartar sauce and malt vinegar and the chips in a mayo/ketchup dip and you have a hearty meal.

  7. Next time you're at Carrefour (or Lotus or anywhere taxis congregate (the car taxis are at the shopping centers along Beach/2nd Road) and get some phone numbers. Also, take note of their fixed prices from your location. Then, when you need a ride, give them a ring.

  8. Ford just confirmed to me that they will supply the WT 3.2 without privacy glass or heated seats. Still claiming arrival in April 2012.

Heated seats would hardly be necessary in Thailand.

Maybe in Thailand they could introduce cooled seats :)

I saw recently that in the USA now, some cars come with heated steering wheels; again, just the opposite of what we would need in LOS.

  9. Undertaking at high speed, I bet ye. Flick the steering wheel to the left to take someone on the inside and "oh shit" there's a truck trundling along at 30 kmh and you're doing 145 kmh. Do you know the braking distance for an effective combined speed of 115 kmh? The answer is a lot further than you actually have. No seatbelts, bang, death.

    Idiot.

    +1

As this type of accident can only be caused by stupid driving, Bad luck for the passengers, however. Moral: Don't ride with idiot drivers.

  10. Nice links, finally someone did a review of the 2.2. I was getting sick of reading and watching the 3.2 reviews as it was just teasing me of what I am not getting.

I just read them as well and they seems quite impressed with the 2.2 and considered what fuel cost (even in LOS) the 2.2 with all the bells and whistles might be the best buy for most people.

The trouble is most if the best "bells and whistles" are not available on 2.2 models, even Wildtrac models :(

Will have to wait a year or so for stuff like hill descent control and curtain airbags to appear in any 2.2 model.

Yup, that's why I'm going to wait. They will make a top-end 2.2 XLT WT sometime next year. I'll wait for that...

Good things come to those who wait :)

  12. happy days indeed....

you can wipe your keyboard down now JT :P

You can say you heard it here first! See our mobile truck which we promised we would have. It can do nachos supreme, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc., with a full kitchen inside, sink, fridge, flat grill, warmers, hot well, cold area, air con, vents, lights, etc., exactly the same set up as our kitchen in the main restaurant. It is completely portable, and is available for catering, events, parties, birthdays, etc. We will be on Jomtien beach all next week for the International Beach Football tournament. If you want to have a completely great time, come down to Jomtien beach to watch the beach football. It is fast, exciting, and a great atmosphere.

Cool set of wheels...good luck with it ;)
