What's shocking is that the girl didn't complain; it was all down to the boyfriend to write a post on Pantip.

The article says he has victimised other students yet no one complains; come on girls all stand up together and tell us what's happening.

Perhaps he is helping her when she is in shock and humiliated and also shy? That would be my first thought not what you wrote...

  2. Sounds like a teacher will get his day in court and if guilty - lets see what happens.

If my daughter was a student in a similar situation she would have a very good lawyer by her side as she filed charges.

It never ceases to amaze me what some people think they can get away with and how others condone their actions with a smile and a laugh - "boys will be boys" attitude.

  3. If you spend a couple of months looking at land you will be able to find good chanote land at your price although you will need to be perhaps an hour outside of CM.

The key point is shopping around and knowing the value of land. My wife bought some land through a village headman type agent and it didn't change the price much at all.

I know that I saw a  piece of land in Mae Rim at that price two years ago and I don't think real prices have gone up that much since then?

Go to the Sansai Tessabon office and look on the road nearby and you will see a Container built property not pretty but allowed and tehre...

    Good luck.

The only carrier I have used in Thailand that has either not issued a LARGE import tax, or at least a reasonable one,, is Thai Post,, all the other shippers, Thai customs will NAIL you on import taxes,, EVEN if you supply them with an accurate, honest invoice as to the items actual value,, they are thieves,,, I had a watch I returned to the sender for repair, After repair, the sender used Fed-Ex to return it to me, They included a receipt for the repairs, and what was done,, Thai Customs hit me with a HUGE import tax for it because they claimed it was undervalued,, $300,000 Baht import tax,,,, it was accurately declared, I included a retail price for it, a copy of my invoice, from receiving it originally thru Thai Post, with the Thai post's import tax on it I had paid,, as well as an original receipt from Thai post when I shipped it back to the supplier to be repaired, with the declared value on the receipt when I shipped it back, proving to them that it was already in Thailand, and was a personally owned item, They only saw $$$ and wanted it,,, I had to go back to the Customs department at Swampy 4 times, to argue it, they kept lowering the amount, I asked if I refused it, would it be sent back?, they claimed that it would NEVER be returned, to the sender, at first, that it would be destroyed, So I said I wanted to watch them destroy it, or proof of it being destroyed as in a smashed up watch,, because I KNEW it would end up on the wrist of a Thai customs agent otherwise, and told them that,,, They then claimed it would be returned to the shipper, I asked for a receipt to PROVE it had been shipped back, so I could provide that to the shipper, "No, can not do" So I asked how could I be SURE it would either be destroyed, or returned, I only got sheepish smiles from them, On the 4th trip to Swampy, I took my Thai wife with me,, SHE ended up getting into a slightly heated argument with them over it,, She ended up getting them to drop the imported value down to the amount that I had paid when it was shipped thru Thai Post,,  $1600 Baht,, which even then was wrong, as it had already been paid the 1st time,, ONLY use Thai Post, EMS when shipping items in,,,

I was under the impression that you needed to provide documentation and fill out forms when you export for repair not fight customs on the import.

It is quite possible that you ignored the law and they were simply doing their job?

Hate to suggest the obvious but the first thing the OP ought to do is to talk to his landlord to at least discuss if the landlord will be transferring the property (if he sells it) subject to the lease.  The OP did not say the landlord suggested that the lease would not be honored by a new owner.  Just because the OP had a friend who allegedly was treated badly (and likely illegally if the friend truly had a lease) by a new owner doesn't mean it'll happen to the OP.

The above post is very good advice.

Try to negotiate first favorable terms:

    1) Some extra time

    2) Moving Expenses

    3) Compensation for your time moving

Then have a good business lawyer look over the lease and advise you of your options.

Have the lawyer contact your landlord.

I am curious how did teh property get sold without your knowing/planning for this?

Did the landlord show the property secretly when you were not at home?

In the end do what is best for the peace and safety of your family regardless of the law.

I was just saying that black and white photos are not very common now.

I wrote that there are some offices want them in a standard photo size not all.

I print mine as two 5 X 7 photos on A4 photo paper. Last year after everything was done the ladies at immigration were looking at the family photo with the house number showing and commenting how pretty my daughter is.

I have found in all Thai offices bringing the kids helps to make everything go smoothly; that and wearing a proper shirt and tie.

Now as the kids are growing up they are busy in school so I have to do without them in person and photos will have to do...

  8. Zero chance of using the police for 3,000 baht with no contract - you really must be joking.

As an example a contractor stole 60,000 baht and I had all documents an inch thick to prove it.

The police had no interest in the case - but I wouldn't leave their office until they accepted my formal complaint.

Long story short I got the money back but had to go to court around 4 times not worth it at all but I didn't know that when I started the process.

  9. For a retired village teacher 100 baht an hour sounds good.

You are not in a big city with overhead also you are going to do give him steady income for a while which is also good.

You would be surprised how low the qualifications often are for older village teachers many don't even have a university degree in any subject.

If he does a great job and you like him take him out to lunch.

Oh good, two more of the "I have been living here x number of years and it has never happened to me club"

One more, more than 10 years several different immigration offices and never a suggestion of a home visit or request for any money.

However, I wear a tie when I visit immigration and I am very polite, always have all my documents and most importantly I have two small children - which seems to make everything easy with my paperwork in Thailand.

As for being part of a club I do feel that being a father makes me part of the Parents Club - not exclusive, and lots of dies to pay but the best one that I have ever joined. Just thinking of my kids as I type puts me in a good mood.

Anything is a bloody win, what government pays for crimes it doesn't commit?

No this doesn't mean the government is saying rape is not a serious crime.

Man had already served time, despite two crime of the same MO, i'm honestly too amazed he didn't receive longer sentencing the second time around.

Remember the government is trying to help her by paying medical, travel expenses and then giving some cash.  The real restitution should come from the criminal

and those that permitted him to work as a driver without proper clearance.

    Exactly!

Unless the government is saying that the taxi license was granted in error and the money is compensation for that error.

  12. Very normal customs letter I get them often.

The key point is to read if it is a bill or just a receipt - both look very similar. Best to have someone fluent in Thai read it for you.

I never personally pay the 200 baht instead our customs broker does it but customs has our address and sends the bill or receipt directly to us.

If the amount is not paid normally you can pay with your next customs transaction or they won't let the next shipment through...

    Certainly not a scam.

i went past 6 hospitals, why did I have to be taken to the most expensive one? That really bugs me.

I think that you are being unreasonable.

If I was in your situation I would want to go to the best hospital - and I think most foreigners would also want to and it seems that based on experience the ambulance also thought so.

$1,600 for emergency treatment is a fraction of what it would cost in a developed country - hard to believe that you don't have either insurance or savings put aside for medical care - and ride a bike on Thai streets - which clearly are dangerous as you know by experience.

Do you have a card in your wallet saying do not take me to a private hospital - only a public hospital? If you do then you may have a very good point - if not you have no point at all unless you expect psychic abilities from emergency rooms which are under a lot of pressure...

How do you know the ambulance drivers got a commision? And if they are private and that is how they get paid what is wrong with that? Have you paid them for their services?

If you had a problem uncovered by the scans would you have happily paid it?

No, Thailand like the states have many pickup trucks. Accidents do happen but a person who sits on the back of a pickup knows they are taking a higher risk, the same as someone smoking knows they are taking a higher risk. In the U.K I had rarely sat in the back of a pickup truck. Mainly because not many people have one. But When I went with my mum to carboot sales alot when I was a teenager I'd be in the back of her hatchback car squashed in with all the bric-o-brak, furniture, etc. No seatbelt on. I'm sure this is still the case in the U.K. People got to make a living.

So, no I don't agree with this new pickup law. Thailand is the land of pickup trucks! Impose this new law would be a very unpopular move by the current government.

The main reason there is a high number of deaths on the roads of Bangkok is that many people don't wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. Not pickups overturning with people in the back.

Freedom is certainly a good thing, but you left out a key point often those without helmets seat belts etc are uninsured and taxpayers end up paying for the medical care. I have never been to the UK and perhaps your national healthcare has figured out a way to fairly place the burden for acre from those who don't wear seat belts etc...?

In my car we don't move an inch unless everyone is wearing a seatbelt.

It should be recognised that 30% of the entire Thai population lives in Isaan. It is also true, I think, that it is the poorest region. It is therefore a statistical probability that in bars or even other major cities there will be a greater proportion of Isaan girls than you would think.

One should never generalise about particular people any more than one should be specific about the population at large.

Sounds logical - very good post.

I am a big fan of Warren Buffet, read as much as you can about this man

He believes very strongly in ETFs in fact he is close to winning a US1.0M bet that over a ten year span a simple ETF will outperform even the most expensively managed funds

As a retired Chartered Accountant who has had a good run over the last six years and averaged over 16% per annum, I would totally agree with Buffet, maybe a Vanguard or Ishares tracker of the Russell 2000 or S& P index, both low cost management

A low cost broker like Interactive Brokers also keeps costs low and leaves under your control when to sell, you can even press just one button and immediately cash out subject to markets being available to trade which is a longer period than just the stock exchange opening hours

    Very good advice.

Also find yourself a very good tax accountant who specializes in taxes.

I like Schwab as they are user friendly with 24 hour service.

Investing a small amount in a large company like AIS in Thailand is fine not so risky and you might get around 5% dividends (last I looked a long time ago)

Again, I can find no evidence that the subject of this thread was suffering either from diabetes, heart disease or any other disqualifying condition. So what's your point?

Insurance is often not available for the above life challenges - the percentage of people who suffer from one or more of the above is very high - so there is a big chance that if the man who died did not have insurance he was suffering from a condition which prevented him from having insurance, sad, but very highly possible - do you agree or disagree?

So if true we should have a heart and feel sorry for his situation... Actually even if not true we should feel sorry for him.

Bupa and other companies will issue policies with exclusions for specific pre-existing conditions.

Anyway, there's nothing to suggest that Mr. Melzer had tried to get and/or been refused insurance for that reason.

Not very helpful information as a number of pre existing conditions such as heart disease and diabetes will basical give cause to not pay for almost all diseases and accident insurance is normally relatively inexpensive and can be purchased on its own.
