  1. Getting behind the wheel of a car seems to reveal much about character

The way people drive here is I think quite an accurate reflection of that.

No consideration for others drivers or pedestrians. They are jealous of anyone in front of them

and will cheat in order to steal a small bit of road.

    Shame really.

Wait a minute! Who are you writing about??? The people of Thailand or some of the people here in the New York City, New Jersey, Pennsylvania area of the United States. I'm confused!! whistling.gif

  2. There's no such thing as Red Cross in Asia or 'Medicines Sans Frontier' or 'Greenpeace' or Oxfam stemming from Thailand or Asia. Indeed, I'll challenge anyone to name one such do-good organization which originates in Asia without farang backing.

Greenpeace should not be in this list. Greenpeace is a self-righteous organisation purely in existence for the benefit of their own egos, full of people with "father issues". It does little of any benefit apart from distort the truth. They are totally numerically illiterate. The true aim of Greenpeace is to "make them wrong", not to help society. They will attack ANY progress and defend any nonsensical alternative no matter how absurd or impractical. Whist they sometimes get it right (out of pure statistical chance), they cloud the vast majority of issues with absurd negativity with little or no basis - the truth behind it being they just want to make "someone" wrong even when there is no basis for it. Nuclear power is a classic example - the best & cleanest power we have, but given bad press by these a**holes.

Another one who should please put the crackpipe down. Greenpeace has been (if nothing else) helped to create awareness for many things, concerning the environment. Their actions may be populistic, but that's exactly what you need in a world of media-overkill, if you want to get attention.

And now, go and get a shark-fin - soup!

Actually, I think a lot of what he says about Greenpeace is correct. I worked with Greenpeace in the bay area of San Francisco, California in the mid 1980's. I found most of the people I worked with to be egotists, back stabbing, lying individuals filled with hate for anyone that did not agree with them! At first I thought it was only the ones that were in the San Francisco group, but visiting Greenpeacer's also exhibited the same characteristics. I quit working for them 5 months after I started.

Sure, if you look at any group you can find individuals who are good people that truly believe what they are doing is helping, but those people were the exceptions!

As for your comment about the crack pipe. Why would you imply that he is a crack addict? Is it because he does not agree with your idea of what Greenpeace is?

  3. "There were ten digit numbers writtendown on the map of Thailand which were only understand among the three, an apparent code."

I would prefer (read: hope) to believe that the authorities would recognise a telephone number or, at least have it checked. The "code"however could really be something as simple as a grid reference which, should not come as too much of a surprise given that the "code" was written on a map. A 10 figure grid reference would be accurate enough to pin down a bunker entrance or more easily a gun emplacement for example.

    Just a thought.

Edit due to 'joined up writing' being just that.

Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) map grid coordinates???

  4. Before I came to Thailand I was fortunate to have been a member of a mens group of 12 men who were interested in examing what it means to be a man and how to balance ourselves to achieve a happy life

I'm so sorry if my comment sounds discriminatory in any way, but I have to ask:

    Are you American??

    :D does sound american

Damned if he don't sound American!

  5. 29 San Francisco -16.2%

    30 Dubai -16.2%

    31 Bangkok -19.8%

Uhhh, average home price in San Fransisco is still over $800,000.

That's 24 million Baht. And Dubai separates the two -ranking just above Bangers?

    meh

The U.S. Government considers the San Francisco Bay area to be the most expensive area to live in the United States. This is based on cost of housing. More than even Hawaii and Alaska. To offset this, the government pays employees 'locality pay' (allegedly to make up the difference in the higher income the non- government workers earn vs. the lower income the government workers earn for an equivalent job.)

As a former government employee I was transferred from the San Fransisco area to Pennsylvania, given a promotion and my yearly income decreased $5000.00 the first year because of the loss of the 'locality pay'!

When I bought a house out there in California, a 1400 square foot house in the city I worked in, averaged 300-500 thousand dollars (yes, a 200 thousand dollar difference for a 1400 square foot house). Twenty miles away, it was about 180-200 thousand. Thirty five miles away where I bought my house, a 1400 square foot house with a lot big enough to build three houses was about 140 thousand dollars. My house was 50-60 miles from San Francisco and was a 1 1/2 to 3 hour commute! Only a 35 to 46 minute commute to where I worked.

  6. "they were used to quick decision-making" Really??? I have never seen a Thai

make a quick decission about anything.

You obviously have no idea about Thais. It's more a racist comment you made. :jap:

    "Off Topic response"

Why do you say lensta's comment is racist?

In your first sentence you imply that lensta's comment is based on ignorance, then follow that statement claiming lensta is racist. Ignorance in and of itself is not an indication of racism, just a lack of knowledge.

lensta may also be making a truthful statement about the only Thai people that he knows, that is, none of the Thai people that lensta knows are capable of making a quick decision.

On reading your response I could think that you are seeing racism where there may be none and your comment is based on ignorance as well.

I have grown tired of hearing accusations of "racism" where there no evidence of racism. If I see a group of people of xxxxx ethnic race and say, "I don't like them". Is that a racist statement or not?

There are some people hearing my comment that would automatically say I am a racist, or say that my comment is racist, not knowing that my comment is made about the group because all the people in the group are crack addicts and has nothing to do with their race. I don't like crack addicts! I don't like heroin addicts! It has nothing to do with the ethnicity of the person, it has to do with what addicts do to feed their addictions!

  7. A side project of Linkin Park If you don't know them your living under a rock. I am not a rap fan but a music fan and some of linkin parks stuff is rather good. This is Fort Minor

Wait till MTV and Rolling Stone get involved -

Having viewed the clip, I think I prefer it under my rock.

Move over then. You're taking up too much room. Me and my friends are a tad squeezed.

Talk about Beethoven rolling over. Rosgers and Hart, Oscar Hammerstein, Gershwin, Sammy Cahn et all must be sitting up there with their hands over their ears.

Hmmmmm ... Was this video made in the parking garage at the airport, just recently taken over by 40 armed guys in black?

    Just wondering.

    :ph34r::rolleyes::offtopic2:

  8. And you Yanks should get off your high horse. Weren't you the most recent owners of slaves in the western world?

Actually, no! Currently the country with the most "African" slaves could be "Africa", possibly with more slaves today than America had during the Civil War era! I am making the assumption that you do mean "African" slaves do you not? Correct me if I am wrong!

But then there are all the other countries in the world where there is modern day slavery, which could include Thailand with the "sex slaves" that cater to all nationalities.

  9. Looked up poochai69.com and got this:

Looks like the site is hosted from servers in the USA. If the site is really hosting child porn, I'd bet the US FBI would be interested.

And I just found this for poochai: I wonder if someone is working to move thier servers outside of Thailand right now.

  10. While these sweet girls are getting their bodies tattooed and drinking and smoking while pregnant at 17 their brains are being filled with clever con artist tricks of how to take care of their babies...mama...papa...sick buffalo and entire village by meeting and dating as many ATMs as possible until some Handsome Sexy Chump marries them and All Is Well.

Then reality...in this case Lek comes along and the entire wedded bliss is over.

This isnt the first case of this. It wont be the last.

I actually investigated the exact crime in 1972 when a Thai wife and her new BF killed a USAF Sgt. She got life in prison. Her excuse was he made fun of her so she got a new lover. Together they planned and executed him.

She never once showed remorse. They also used the house breaking method but left so many clues.

After she knew we had her she then blamed the poor sap who helped her.

Did that happen in Udon Thanii? Seems I heard about something like that when I was there. I left in May 1972.

  11. I recall a photo* that the girl/woman who was involved in the murder on her husband Dale Henry from Canada in Ranong in 2008 (see previous link in an earlier message) made EXACTLY the same V-sign behind the head of her husband as this woman, Bunnag.

It gave me the creeps when I just noticed that.

Yep, spoke volumes to me. A complete lack of respect... a Thai g/f wouldn't be doing that to her Thai guy no matter what the age difference or her status. Looks a nasty piece of work even without seeing her eyes. The poor guy was very ill to begin with and 'she couldn't wait...'. Pack of wild animals. :bah:

It is nothing more than a playful gesture with no overtones whatsoever. Thais do it all the time when they know photos are being taken.

Isn't it weird that in all the years that I'm a member, I can only recall 2 photos on Thaivisa...just 2...that show 2 married Thai women who are both showing the V-sign behind the head/back of their respective husbands and both of them had their husbands murdered ?

"It is nothing more than a playful gesture...." really ?

In these murder cases it's an absurd and absolute BIZARRE coincidence...this playful gesture...

    LaoPo

I would agree that it may be a coincidence involving the woman doing this with a Falangs that have been murdered.

My niece and her girl friends use the V sign frequently. I looked through most her pictures of herself and her friends. I found three pictures of her doing this with her fiance and one picture of a group of friends she visited in Korea, where this was done by one of the Koreans to another. As far as I know, the guy in Korea and her fiance are still alive. I could not find the picture where my niece did this with me several years ago.

I think that as one poster stated, this may be an innocent gesture that Thai females make when pictures are being taken. This is the only time I have seen the V sign being made. My sister in law does it, I even have a picture of my mother in law doing it. What I have never seen, is a Thai male making a V sign (or as I knew it in my younger days, a "Peace Sign".

  12. This is a minor issue, (except for crashed aircraft) but, I have located ELT's a week after they were activated, when U.S. Coast Guard, Air Force, and Civil Air Patrol (CAP) were unable to locate the ELT.

I worked in California for several years and there seemed to be a lot of non-emergency activation of ELT's there.

One problem is the failure of the owner to register the ELT or Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) with the appropriate Government agency and to program the transmitter with the marine vessel or aircraft identification data.

Wish it was not a fatal, unfortunately some families are in deep distress now. Gone to work and never returned home,

and the ELT didn't activate because .........?...........

    Geez, Thailand amazes me.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: An ELT is a Emergency Locator Transmitter. Seem every other country in the world they are required as standard, but TIT. Modern ones send out within 5 seconds of impact your GPS location with the serial number of the unit, that has been registered to the person or craft. Send out every 60 seconds for 48 hours and can take massive impacts like a black box kind of thing. They are either turned on manually in the cockpit, or by a switch on the unit which must be assessable, normally in the tail and they turn on by a G load meter in the case of an impact. Save huge amount of recourses for searches, and you can get found very quick.

I bought my last unit for $300 !!!!!

Life is cheap in some countries.
