  1. I visited the Bang Tao beach today. It did not look that bad. I would say that the beach looks pretty nice now.

And these pics are to the south. Bang Tao is about 4 miles long

Please go to the middle area between the old Sheraton and the Movenpick if you wish to present a real comparison.

As I do not know how to get full size pics on the post please click on the pics to be taken to a full size picture and they can be scrolled through.

Beirut is an accurate term for the sheer density of rubble. And as an Army did it ......

Every time I see one of your posts, you are complaining about Thailand. What would it take to make you happy?

I greatly enjoy living in Phuket. I know it isn't perfect here, but I feel very fortunate to be here.

You seem to have a completely different outlook on life EBlair. If you are as unhappy as you say you are, why don't you return home? I'm sure many TV members would happily give you a ride to the airport.

  2. The majority of Thais working in Phuket are not FROM Phuket.

They have come here for the chance to earn extra money, but they do not consider Phuket to be their home, and take regular vacations in their home province.

If the money dries up for whatever reason, these workers will simply go home to Nakhorn Si Thammarat or Trang. The idea that Thai workers are going to transform into thieves and drug addicts is disgraceful, borderline racist even. If you have such a low opinion of Thai people, you should go back to your home country - Thailand will be a happier place without you.

  3. Give some of your money to me!

Failing that, split it 3 or 4 ways, and invest in different types of things. Maybe 25% Gold, 25% Euro/US stocks, 25% Dollar or Euro, 25% Yen/Yuan/Property/UpToYou

Don't worry about getting an income from your capital right away, it could lead you to make an unwise investment. Bide your time and keep your eyes open for good investment opportunities.

If you really want a guaranteed income from your capital, Google "annuity", although I would not recommend taking out a large annuity in the current economic climate.

  4. Phuket branches of 7/11 are refusing to stock the English language version now. Apparently a number of "farang" were going into the shop, reading the news for free for several minutes, and then leaving without buying anything.

It's this kind of "cheap charlie" behaviour that makes us all look bad.

  5. but I am very glad to be leaving.

I think you speak for all of us

Forgive me if I don't take your bait, but I will say it seems to be a tipping point for many. I don't see any kind of real reform, lese majeste is priority # 1 apparently and still used to silence political dissent, and the libel laws are still in place protecting the wealthy from responsibility.

Kicking low wage workers out of their jobs simply does not impress me.

Well, I think even you would acknowledge that the majority of your posts complain about Phuket, Thailand or Thai people. Every time I see your name on the forum, I ask myself "Why does this guy stay here if he doesn't like it?"

  6. Sorry Joe, there you already are wrong, this does not exist.

I don't think it is wise to have ATUS enter the game here, just look at who were the biggest complainers at their meetings.

And I know exactly what is happening at the pier, much better than you do, but I'm not one of the moaners and complainers.

    I am interested, Steven.

How do you know so much about what is happening at the pier? More than people legally working there?

You seem to know everything. Does your wisdom flow from divine or psychic powers? Please understand, I am not accusing you of being a smart-alec, a know-it-all, or a bar-stool-bore. I respect you so very much.

  7. "More important, if there were indeed true justice without any hidden agenda..."

According to the Electoral majority, there is none with respect to this NACC, plus the CC.

To say otherwise, is being blind to their historical record of politicized, one-sided decisions or simply parrotting PAD-Dem agenda.

Or at least that is what the UDD/RS's are telling me, and they make up the bulk of the electoral majority.

Given this NACC thing happening now in such a hurried fashion, and the inability of the anti-democratic coup mongers to achieve their goals, one is hard put to not connect the two and come up with a different conclusion than the Prime Minister. Unless of course, one is a PAD-Dem sympathizer.

That said, I note the headline speaks of a "rice scandal", when other's refer to it as an "Agricultural subsidy Program"....What is a scandal to some is a supportive program to others....Depending on which side of the political divide one comes from I guess....Have there been price support programs for rubber in the past, that were characterized as scandals?.....Just wondering.

Unfortunately these divergent views are not being hashed out in Parliament at the moment....Then voters could make up their own mind. For that reason, it will be interesting to see how the voters viewed this thing, when the current election is completed and tabulated.

"Agricultural subsidy Program" - is that what you believe it is?

Most countries with agricultural subsidies don't seem to need to burn down their own warehouses. Why was the rice hoarded for so long instead of immediately being sold? Who was capable of benefiting from that decision?

Why don't we have any official figures about how much rice has been sold, how much is in storage, and the quality of the rice in each location?

Why weren't the farmers paid six months ago? Why have farmers in certain political areas of the country been paid in full, while farmers in other areas have not been paid at all?

You think this is a normal, efficiently-run "agricultural subsidy program", do you?

  8. 60 billion withdrawn in 3 days - sounds like a big scary number until you check the GSB deposits in 2012 which were 1,680 billion.

So citizens against the bank's decision to support the government withdrew less than 4% of the total deposits.

Citizens who support the government's move deposited 30 million.

So for every baht of support (all 30 million of them) there's 2,000 baht of opposition (60 billion).

Conclusion: The bank isn't going to fail for this move but there's more money in opposition than support. Then again, if you don't pay the farmers for the rice they gave the government, how could they possibly put anything in the bank?

Do you know how banks work? They don't have 1,680 Billion Baht in some enormous vault somewhere ...

The vast majority of that money is tied up in investments, loans etc. That is why the bank is described as having 200 Billion Baht of "liquidity" - that is the money that they can access quickly in an emergency.

The GSB was never in any real danger, anyhow. They are owned and run by the Ministry of Finance, AKA the Thai Government. If they had run out of money, the other banks would have queued up to lend them liquid funds.

I can hear the sound of chickens coming home to roost

I can smell the aromas of roast goose

And very shortly I shall be able to hear the fat lady singing

Has Yaowapa announced a benefit concert for her sister?

    And will she sing?

Yaowapa gives an excellent rendition of "Ride of the Valkyries", apparently.

  10. Hahahaha, you are the third person who asked me this silly question. I support one political party? Oh no, I support and share here to have a peaceful, united, progressive and prosperous Thailand. What is your solution? Are you one of those who suffer from Thaksinitis and/or Thaksinphobia?

What is wrong if I made 100 postings a day? BTW, I ignore many replies to my posts. Today, as of now, it is about 60 of them I am ignoring. I don't even border to read them for I know they were the same tune sung by the Thaksinmania

Do you like to get paid to be my office boy? You can begin your journey from there and prove your capability. I pay very well, if you can prove yourself. Staff also get incentive family packages. I reward people who delivered.

What an interesting post. Your English is excellent for a Thai.

My solution? Since you asked - Yingluck should offer to hold new elections, and stand down regardless of which party wins. A power vacuum wouldn't help anybody. PTP then have a chance to field a more moderate candidate for the leadership. Let the Democrats win the next election gracefully, and focus your efforts on the one after that.

If Thaksin wants to come back so badly, he could publicly offer to return, provided that certain allowances were made with regards to the length and location of his jail time. It would probably be less damaging to Thailand in the long term than having him bankroll the Opposition to the Democrats for the next 20 years.
