  1. Looks like the courts made a correct decision and there is now 1 less political prisoner!

Pity they had to wait so long poor beggar.

Court dismisses case of homeless scavenger arrested under Emergency Decree

The case of a homeless scavenger has been dismissed by the court after over 5 months' detention in prison.

On 29 Oct, Pathumwan District Court dismissed the case against Somphol Wangprasert who was prosecuted for violating the Emergency Decree by conspiring with four or more other people to gather and instigate public unrest and using roads prohibited under the decree.

  2. "A key concern is that the pool of qualified native English speakers in Thailand is very limited"

    - Not a concern. A big cocern only if the native Thai speakers in Thailand is very limited.

"We have found that hundreds of native speakers have used fake certificates in applying for teaching jobs,"

    - In Kao San Road such cert is being sold openly on the street at 200 Baht a piece. Also fake driving license, fake student card, fake press ID, etc.

  3. What a sad indictment of Thailand. Red Power magazine is one of the few publications in Thailand that doesn't tow the government line.

No surprises then that it falls victim to government harassment and intimidation.

Speaks volumes about freedom of speech in Thailand and more so freedom of the press here.

I personally haven't read it. But have seen some of the images that it portrays.

Forget lese majeste or incitement to violence, whoever prints it will end up with libel cases of gazillions of baht, and probably 1,625,000 years in jail.

For me if it doesn't incite violence, (which I understand it has), it should be allowed, lies or not. If the institutions and people cannot defend themselves against the accusations, that is their problem. Lese majeste is a very big issue in Thailand, and there is no reason for any publication to stray into this area if it is simply making political comment.

However, for a country like Thailand where the libel laws are so ludicrously powerful, I am amazed it has remained in print even this long.

About Lese majeste, is it a real threat, or is it what Army/CRES/DSI is leading us to believe?

I was trying to dig my tongue out of my cheek at the time, dam_n, there's another post, and probably off topic as well! ohmy.gif

I knew where your tongue was! ;)

Reminds me of the last time my ex spoke to me................

the only appropriate rejoinder/ witty rapartee' for your last remark would get me in serious trouble with the mods ... so ....whistling.gif

Why swing your fist when you know you can hurt no one in ThaiVisa?

  5. The Tory spokesman said the other day Dave has never met Mark.

Since Cameron is in his early 40's and Abhisit is in his mid-40's, it is presumably highly unlikely that they were bosom pals at Eton in any event. Your best mates at school tend to be your immediate contemporaries.

Anyway, nice to hear that Cameron may be living it up in LOS this Christmas while countless millions of his (and my) fellow countrymen will be consigned to a wretchedly miserable (and freezing) festive season thanks to the draconian spending cuts announced by his government last week. So much for all that "we're all in this together" crap which they have been spouting.

    Ouch. The truth hurts!

    Maybe they know each other.

With the age difference, maybe one is a bully, and maybe the other was being bullied. just maybe.

  6. What I'll give you jdinasia is this:

    1. You're political - that's for sure.

    2. You're articulate - a good way with words.

BUT - sorry on this count you're very wrong.

Why continue to bother arguing against the indefensible. You know you're wrong.

Your feeble attempts to counter Dan Rivers very truthful reporting are starting to reflect very badly on you.

CNN and the BBC reported professionally. Sorry if that irks you.

Hey - you also forgot to mention that perhaps they were aiming at the Easter Bunny.

Spot on and to the point.

    Thank you.

I don't know who the army are shooting. Red-shirts or Easter Bunny.

All I know is that shooting life bullets is bad.

  7. Caught in the Act after the police investigating him allowed him to take the 15 year old to his condo . Wait a bit , then raid the place , allowing him AGAIN to perform a lurid act so to trap him. If the girl was having intercourse when they raided then the police are just as guilty for letting him have the time to do her again.

As for the pedophile , give him the sentence he deserves .

As for the girl she is a minor , regardless of consent or not. Children need protecting .

    Fully agree.

Just the Constitution Court scandals which was an obvious trap, those who set up the trap is guilty, and not those that fallen nto the trap.

  8. You may want to read this NewMandela article from Nick N., April 15th.

Amongst others it says 'I found again many bullet holes, mostly from the direction of the army towards the protesters, but here also from the direction of the protesters, assumed to be fired by the now infamous black dressed group of fighters.'

    http://asiapacific.a...-and-definance/

    Fully agree with you.

It was also disclosed later that:

YES, army have send it spy dress, mix, and live with the Red-shirt.

NO, red-shirt have NOT send it spy dress, mix, and live with the army.

So, yes, shooting came from the protesters side, but by the army in disguise, because only them have army supplied weapons.

It was caught on tape in youtube. Let me search for it.

  9. "CNN Exclusive Footage Thai army snipers shooting at civilians in Bangkok 15-5-201"

... youtube link removed, no need to duplicate ...

(This is from youtube / CNN, not me)

Dear Chantorn, snipers mostly fire single, accurate shots from a distance. That's slightly different from thousands of rounds.

    :)

Listen to that report by Dan Rivers.

"Clearly shows army shooting at people" (not civilians)

"Bullets flying in all directions" (not just from the Army side)

"Not clear who was shooting the people who were being shot"

    and again

"We don't know if the people being picked off were being picked off by army snipers"

he even backtracked on the army thing at one point by saying people dressed in army style camouflage/fatigues

Dan gave some heavily skewed reports during the crisis, but this isn't one of them.

And what did he say about personally (Dan himself) seeing protesters with weapons? My English is not too good, and I could not really make it out. Maybe he should speak slower.

  10. I often wonder why in this LoS where corruption is the motivation for politics, and charges laid so the opposite party can gain power or remove the competition, only to take greater advantage of mismanagement and abuse of power for financial reasons, it all seems such a wasted effort to tie up a court, legal counsel and all people associated with it when at the end of the day - when the new elections are called - it will all come to nothing anyway!

TIT. Not used to it yet?

  11. And there's no proof they didn't fire thousands of rounds into protesters. But as I mentioned before I'm no big fan of Thaksin but you know the score and I know the score. There goin' to present the best possible case and in my opinion they have a very good case - a strong case in fact - and so it'll be interesting to see how things pan out in the next couple of months.

Moving away from OP and the 'biased' report which suggest you either accept me saying 'objectivity is required' or you simply don't know what else to say which might make sense.

So move to the thousand of rounds fired. There may be no proof they didn't fire thousands of rounds into the protesters, but there is also no proof they did fire thousands of rounds into the protesters. The evidence seem to point to 'not fired thousands of rounds into the protesters'. Till now no report, video, other comment on multiple wounds by gun fire. Have you ever seen a few soldiers firing only a single magazine each as rapidly as possible? Probably not. Firing with M16's into protesters will leave many dead, many multiple hits, blood running down the street.

Conclusion, you have no case. And certainly for this page 16, point 35 Robert A. has no case.

    Objectivity, my dear chap.
