Just looked at two weather forecasts for next week in CM. The Thai Visa one indicated rain from Saturday to Tuesday and Weather Channel said scattered thunderstorms from Saturday to Wednesday. I hope so, but as it approaches midday Saturday all I can see outside is very heavy SMOG

Strange that electricity is anywhere near the metal structure of a bridge. Perhaps some lights? But then TIT.

Bus crashes in Lampang; killing 8
Chiang Mai Mail online reporters
Police believe that the driver, killed in the accident, fell asleep at the wheel as the bus veered off the highway, overturning and then slammed into an LPG gas station.
8 people were killed and 50 injured. The police said it was fortunate the bus did not hit the tanks which could have exploded.
The blue and white New Viriya Tour bus veered off the highway around midnight on December 7, before sliding into the fence and then the LPG Gas Station at Ban Tha Pha in Lampang's Tern District.
Rescue officials had to cut passengers out of the bus and survivors were transported to the hospital for treatment.

As many said, this is so sad. A bus route I often take, and enjoy.

Why do you masquerade under a FULHAM FC banner?

Similar to what happened up here at the Mae Taeng elephant camp last month when I was taking some visitors around. The poor guy in the attached picture was thrown by one of the tour elephants and looked badly injured. He was eventually hauled off on the back of a pick-up after a 15 minute delay. I tried to find out later what had happened to him, but was unable to get any information.
After the incident, none of the thirty odd people waiting for an elephant ride wanted to take one and the organizers had to send out minibuses to bring them back to base.

I have done 3 VIP Green buses this year, the last being Sunday and I was rather scared about the driver killing us all on the ride back. Of course, it was raining and this guy was passing where not allowed and I made a point to buckel up. Take the car, faster and much safer IMO and you likeky aren't on speed like a few of these bus driver's seem to be. Very dicey ride on the 430pm Green Bus from the border this past Sunday had me thinking the earlier buses must be safer due to light and rain conditions alone.
After more than 10 VIP Green Bus trips to MaeSai I have never experienced a bad or dangerous trip. Very good company. They even gave me 95% of my fare back when I had an incorrect ticket that I should have checked 100% when it was issued.

Wow! - as the instigator of the original closed thread, having read all these comments (some true, some not - we know exactly who was involved as regulars there; he doesn't always carry a knife!) I now have a better idea of why threads are closed. Thanks moderators.

The issue with your post was that there was no newspaper story on the incident yet, and you even mentioned in your post that it was 'gossip you heard at a bar'.
At Thaivisa when reporting incidents there needs to be a source. Most newspapers can be used as a source, with some exceptions. This prevents members from just making up stuff, and also prevents potential defamation issues; after all if the story is out there from some other source then this forum is in the clear in that regard.
Anyway, two days after your post the thing appeared in a local newspaper, so then a new topic could be opened on it on the forum. Let me find it for you.
EDIT: Here it is: http://www.thaivisa....i-in-pool-hall/
I assume this topic can now be closed; it's all been debated there in the CM forum.
Thanks Winnie for your easy to understand response. I immediately take on the 'just making stuff up' comment, but I knew my posting was pretty 'hot off the press' and was looking for some collaboration - so I would also question whether initial postings have to have follow on from another source. Nevertheless, thanks for the explanation.

Being a novice at posting on ThaiVisa, I'm not sure what I did wrong when last week I asked if anyone had more information concerning 'an incident' at Caesar's snooker hall. It seems my posting was withdrawn and I was admonished. I certainly don't want to upset any administrators, but at the time I thought it was an incident in Thailand worth posting about.
There is still a great deal of silence concerning the matter here in Chiang Mai, but today I can confirm that upon entering the snooker hall there was a group of monks performing a 'purification ceremony', confirming that my original posting was accurate. I will not post any more specific details in case they are considered inappropriate.

Taking the tablets (and deciding which one!) is always secondary to wrapping up and using deet.

People who holiday in Thailand should take anti malaria tablets without a doubt. Ask your doctor if you want professional advice.
Quite disagree. Taking anti malaria tablets carry many side effects and not always effective. Wrap up and use deet.

There are hundreds. Easier for you just to google it and mention your locality

Someone forgot to mention
The Red Shirts today Sunday 207h November are all over Udon, getting ready to demand Thaskin is allowed to return
Friend over the phone told me cars are being stopped and asked if they support Thaskins return
Sad days for the driver if they say NO
Do they only ask in Thai or do they question in English too? I'm heading that way soon

Last night I took the NCA bus from Pattaya to Chiang Mai, which now takes 14 rather than 12 hours due to new route avoiding the floods. As we crossed roads leading out of Bangkok to the east, these roads were totally jammed with overcrowded pickups, cars with belongings on the roof and other assorted traffic. An amazing and sad sight!

According to wiki,
"A typical aircraft carrier in the U.S. military uses nuclear power to desalinate 400,000 US gallons (1,500,000 lt; 330,000 imp gal) of water per day"
I didn't know that - but if true, that would be a lot of help. Maybe authorities will come to their senses later

before people get too uppity about "the government" they might baer in mind that the opening or not of the loud gates around Bkk etc is managed by the Bkk govenor - and of course part of a Democrat stronghold.
You are kidding of course! Do you believe in the monkey or the organ grinder?

Really - what did they suspect! Chaos will rule
