  1. Errr ok...... I somehow have this mental image of you typing away on your computer, with your feet in water that is gently lapping near the electrical outlets. Sorry to hear you are flooded, hope it all works out ok..

Nope, i just relocated everything to the second floor, all other people did the same in the village. Its a gated comunity not a village up north. Anyway as long as people have electricity they can go on. Water can be boiled, water pumps work ect ect ect. Once the electricity goes your basically forced to leave your home.

Because the water was coming slowly for days already (Bang Yai area) the mayor gave good instructions and we sandbagged the village. In the end it came up through the drains. Its the same all over you can sandbag all you want but the drains will do you in.

I am staying here as long as possible.

One intelligent dude here - focussed and doing the right thing. Good luck

  2. My oh my, people are reacting like the capital is going to be submerged under 5 metres of flood water for weeks on end. If you cannot hold out for a couple of days with the supplies you should have in your household anyway, then you're definitely a poor housekeeper. And if the Biblical flood doesn't hit your area, you're going to sit on a stockpile of food that will last until end of the year. I have never really understood that sort of lemming-like panic buying. Has anyone started chopping down the mango trees in their garden and started to build an ark, too...?

REALLY - a bit of a sad, sarcastic comment here, don't you think!

  3. And the icing on the cake for me is that the "wealthy guy" scams his con men "friends" out of the lot - and they go running to the police!! HAHAHAHAH - you couldn't make this stuff up!!!

But surely this is made up - it's too unbelievable to be anything but .............. even in Thailand!

  4. Open an account here which is no problem. I have accounts with Bangkok Bank and Siam Bank - both friendly and helpful like British banks were 30 years ago. Assuming you visit England on a regular basis, bring in a pocketful of cash as required - quick and easy to deposit with no charges. I just returned with £10k which goes a long way in Chiang Mai.

  5. Freelance journalist Andrew Drummond in Thailand has been closely following the cases and reported the Thailand Department for Disease Control said so far there are no links between the deaths of cases examined of people visiting Chiang Mai in January and February, and no link to the Downtown Inn.

    - with files from Andrew Drummond

".....no link to the Downtown Inn." Like the ending of the Wizard of Oz: "disregard the man behind the curtain, he is of no concern to you. Keep looking at the image in front of you."

One can't help but wonder at the Thai medical industry here - whether or not these cases are linked by location they are ALL linked by a seemingly fatal lack of action by the health workers who were approached by the victims.it seems their first instinct is to turn a patient away and hope it clears up.

After weeks of virtually nil occupancy, some revellers showed up for Songkran, but the place looks empty again today.post-98698-0-68128400-1303045970_thumb.j

  6. We sell BeerLao and BeerLao Dark here at The Olde Bell. If you want to buy it wholesale by the case to drink at home, Makro have secured the rights - it would appear the sole rights- to sell it here in chiang Mai

Do they do the even better BeerLao Gold, do you know Pedr?

  7. Has anyone else been trying to follow some of the Chiang Mai Cricket Sixes on the internet, when not there live? I can get no video or audio feed as advertised and the results in text format come down as a completely unformatted mass of text - very difficult to take in. Certainly some room for improvement here. When there live, it is a very well run event and lots of fun. Watching the grossly overweight commentators in 'the box' constantly feeding themselves is an additional side interest!

  8. First time I've been caught at the top of a tall building during a tremor - it's certainly more frightening than at ground level. On the 18 th floor of Royal Lanna it sure was swaying for a long time. A good attershock at 11 pm too.
