  1. You are not alone. I also think soccer is a load of crap. I will diverge from your opinion here by saying I think any sport where grown men run around chasing a ball is a load of crap. I know 95% of the population of TV, if not the world, is now gonna start chewing my arse, But i fear this tread is gonna get moved, coz it aint nothing to do with Chiang mai.

Gimme a good game of snooker anyday. :)

  2. Two alternatives to C.Mai for me would be Udorn (already mentioned) and Phitsanaluk in central thailand. Been a few years, but on last visit found it easy to get around, helpful and fiendly people, few fallang tourists, decent food, accomodation etc. Cheaper than C.mai, plenty to do, picturesque.......

Phitsanaluk had a more country town feel than Udorn.

Made c.mai look like BKK, I would choose it over Chiang Rai as an alternative. Just my Opinion.

  3. I also can smell live rats from a fair distance, and dead 'uns from even further. Dunno is it their urine, or some kind of stuff that oozes from their skin to keep their fur healthy. Speaking of fur, I cannot help but wonder why Mr Forbes is shaving a rat. Is it still alive, has its fur any comercial value? If so, where can I sell it? Coz I'm doing battle with the varmints in my mobile home.:)

Or does he use fur for making fishing lures.......?

    Just a guess.

  4. Um, how the hel_l do you know it works? Do you know anything about statistical analysis? Sorry, I already know the answer. A sample of ONE equals NOTHING!

Are You OK? Are you a doctor, or own lots of shares in a drug company. To answer one of your questions, yes, I know lots about statistical analysis. Although for the life of me I cannot see the relevance of this to this subject.

Have you ever had to save your own life from the ravages of modern medicine?

Consider yourself lucky if you haven't.

  5. Try the chemist at the end of Rachadamoen( walking street) near thapae gate. Good woman chemist in there, seems to be heavily into natural remedies. Cant remember name of shop, but a couple of doors down walking street from that big coffe shop on the corner. Tried loads of places for lip balm without petroleum additives and was the only place that had it. No placebo effect. It works.

  6. Wonder which is most likely to get me, cancer or motorcycle. I NEVER ride without a helmet, coz I landed square on my head when i got off a scooter, not long after I started riding motorcycles. Only going slow. Knocked me clean out. Woke up still lying in the road. must have been there a good 10 minites. Still keep the crappy old helmet as a reminder.

    Im gonna have a fag.

  7. Chiang Mai Kristi's House. I think its soi 5 Ratchadamoen. If your on rajvitti, its down the soi almost opposite the UN irish pub.

Long stay, short stay, no problem.

Never found a guest house like it, anywhere.

Im nothing to do with the place, just speaking highly of a well run establishment.

  8. Doi saket may not suffer from flooding, but it does experience horrendously destructive hail storms, sits right on the most unstable fault line in SE asia, is the only known habitat of a particularly lethal breed of millipede, and is used as a landing site for a highly agressive tribe of space alien. But its dry.

Sorry, dont take this to seriously. Ha ha ha. :)

Seems so funny as i write it.

Maybe I need to get more sleep. Ha ha ha ha ha........ :D

  9. Protests have occurred in various parts of Thailand and there is an ongoing risk of clashes between groups of protestors. During the weekend of 24 to 25 April pro-Government protests took place in Pattaya, Lopburi, Lampang, Chiang Rai, Ubon Ratchathani, Mookdaharn and Korat."

Just read this again "PRO goverment protests"? In Chiang rai? Am I missing something, or is that going to have a very limited turnout?

  10. I remember the various embasys issuing a travel warning about the smoke in chiangmai, a couple of years ago. Very near emptyed the place,as far as I could see.(about 3 metres). Didnt tell anyone when it cleared though.

Violence in Lopburi? Did the feral monkeys join in? Wonder what their political views are?

Its a shame c.rai got mentioned by the embasy. Always had the place down as somewhere life carryed on no matter what. Always get the feeling of isolation from all troubles in the world when Im there.

I do hope the embasy has got it wrong.

  11. My mates missus comes from Vietienne and the reason for so few dogs is they eat them there my mate and his missus tricked us after coming back form a familly gathering they bought us some bar b que and we ate it and his bird laughed and said in her non english accent GALLY eat the dog Gally eat the dog

Yep they fed me dog and you know what the only reason i stopped eating it was the intestines the actual meat was very tasty.

So next time you in Laos just count how many dogs you see it wont be many for sure not like here in Thailand

    :):D:D

Reminds me of some small meat pies I was eating in Lao. After the third day of eating them, a neighbouring stall holder, obviously with some familiarity of western ways, shouted "No mister, LAT, LAT" Obviosly rat pies then. The pastry was OK, but the rat was tasteless with the consistency of cardboard.

  12. central airport plaza basement

near tops supermarket xx to xxxx clothes cant remember the name but as your leaving tops middle aisle left side 10-15 meters.

most casual clothes but some dress clothes

Called Dr Zu. Depending on the political situation, if your going through BKK, Dr Zu also has a branch in the MBK centre (or is that NBK?). The shop is much bigger than the on in C. Mai, and has a much greater range of stock.

High quality at a low price. well worth it.

  13. "is this thapae road?"

Yup, I reckon so. I reckon its Wat Bupparam, the first one you come to on the right hand side, going away from the moat.

Amazing pics. So many people wearing hats. Guess motorcycle killed off that fashion. Just guessing that thoes wide brimmed hats would be the traditional Thai mans hat. Apart from the farmers hat, that bit of dyed cloth, which is still seen.

    (Hat collector/pervert)

    Thanks for the pics.

  14. In Fang, there is a hotel called, well, its the Thai for british hotel, or, great britain. Sorry I cant remember the name. Anyhow, the bedbugs will give you storys to tell and memories that will last long after the welts have disapeared. Like being in an ants nest. Even sat on a chair, they were climing up the chairlegs to feast on my liquids. Only standing in the shower could stop their onslaught.

Dont miss the caves at Chiang Dao. Pay a guide to show you around. I didnt, coz i thought he was scamming, and regreted it.

If you get to Chiang Dao, and find there are no caves there, its my memorie fading, and they are somewhere else....

    Maybe someone can confirm...

  15. Ahhh. A cryptic post. I understand. Free water? Memories of the past. But topping can only be on the top. Otherwise its bottoming. Or if pizza is on edge its siding. But then pizza is going to be unstable, so going to need some kind of structure to hold it up. Maybe a glass of free water.

  16. I looked at pics on the web, but the same pics were coming up as XJ and divvie. Im certain she is a XJ now, coz the clocks and bars are diffrent. Just insured it today, so i recon the insurance company would have known if she was a divvie.

Paid £700. She is sound and complete, been resprayed, but tatty and needs a good service. Seller put braided brake hoses and new pads all round and new exhaust headers.

She runs sweet enough. I recon the aircleaner elements are chock solid, coz she dont rev out right.

I'm not to concerned coz i'm gonna pull her apart and do her up. Get the suspension sorted, and try and get hold of a shot motor. Do a mild tuning job on it. Gas flow the heads, dyno kit etc, and then slot it in.

Got an MOT tommorow, should pass OK, so long as I remember to stop and wipe the oil off the leaking fork seal before the tester sees it :)

    Thanks for your help

  17. I stayed in the Moon and Sun in Chang Rai

Totally agree. Nicest guesthouse/hotel I have found in chiang rai. There are some new rooms there, must have been built some time in the last three years. The older rooms are nicer imo. More characterful, and nicer views.
