  1. And if you use Halifax(or any other Bank)Swift transfer, ignore their warning about sending Sterling to another Country. All they do is rip you off with their own exchange rate and even have different rates between Internet Banking and phone banking(the internet rate being the worse!).

I've sent many amounts to K Bank(300 Baht handling fee),with no problems and good rate. I believe Bangkok Bank is the clearing Bank.

  2. I've been using the Metro card at Aeon since April and have never been charged any ATM or Currency Exchange fee by either.

And I've always got the MasterCard Exchange on the day(within 0.1,as it fluctuates with the day),I check on my internet Banking.

Other ATMS do charge 180 for MasterCard and 150 for VISA,but not AEON.

And on the ATM I use at Udomsuk(BKK),there is no rate option to chose from.

  3. I got a 42 from Eagle GPS in Chiang Mai at 3,990 and was told told English or Thai, not both.

It came pre-loaded without a CD,all the names and voice directions are in English, just the traffic light warning in Thai.

I'll have to do the downloading trick then.

    Cheers

Works great but similar problem,I can't search addresses only name places etc.

  4. I work for an airline and its just not worth taking a chance, the Thai consulate in Hull said no problem(its an international regulation) but airlines will not board you as they have to pay any fines etc.

Normaily at check-in they have the latest date(i.e 6 months from that day) that they will allow to check-in and if they refuse you,its your fault and no refund/or changes will be down to you.

I know as I double checked with EVA and got a new UK passport(they do add any time left on your old onto your new passport)

    hope this helps

  5. Don't know if this Bangkok Bank link regarding Transfer of funds from the UK to Thailand might be helpful. Cheers.

    Many thanks, Pib. Very useful.

A friend of mine Died 3 Years ago and I used Bangkok Bank in London to transfer his remaining company pension to his Widows Bangkok Bank account,a very helpful chap called Michael set it all up.

I was very impressed with the service and no problems with the monthly payment, the cost was a choice between 15 pounds or 1000Baht(i choose 15 pound),this was the only way to transfer as our company pension policy is to pay into an UK Bank account only(they can tell by the sort number).

    Regards

  6. I've used Wandering Star Tours, which is located between Mad Dog and Big John's on a side road..

Farang owed but run by 2 lovely and helpful Thai Ladies(Dao and Anne).

They have advised when to wait for good prices etc.

    They are on 053273602

    :jap:Regards

  7. I've used Toyota in Mukdahan several time's to hire a vehicle(042 611047),it;s owed by a nice Scottish Lady.

I have even dropped off a vehicle on sunday, just pre-arrange it and it;s not a problem(she was there on a Sunday)

This is the only self drive Car hire in Mukdahan because alot of vehicles disappear over the Border into Laos.

    cheers Maz

  8. I was robbed twice, first in a hotel in BKk(they left the fire doors open)he started on the top and worked his way down and the police were useless.

But the second time was in my small apartment block and the Thai owners son caught one of them, beat the shit out of him and broke his arm,got all my stuff back and his dad then called the cops and the little toad got a year in prison!.

This was done to make sure all the other toe-rags knew what would happen to them if they came back.

A nice piece of rough justice:ph34r:

  9. Be careful about staying longer than you asked for,if you do they will class it as overstay.

Even if you get permission from UKBA in the UK to extend her visit, when you apply next time in Bangkok you will have problems because they do not like you conning them like that.

My friend did that and had lots of problems with Bangkok,in the end he got her a fiance visa(the easiest visa to get) and then Married her in the UK!.

    Good luck

  10. Na has added Mashed Potato's to the menu and they are delicious. Also the steaks are thicker. She also added free WiFi so you can surf the web and enjoy a cold one while sitting outside or inside. It just keeps getting better.

Agreed, I may be going back in Nov and that will be my first place to visit, next time I'll try the mash!

  11. I was back there again last month and tried her Rib-eye and very tasty, the burgers are still good but now the steak's my favorite, even better than next door.

Cold beer and good food, when I'm in Mukdahan I pop-in every day and having 2 comely wench's serving is a plus point.

    Cheers

  12. 7pm seems too late for the popular Bell Travel Service (a nonstop bus from Suv to Pat):

    http://www.belltravelservice.com/routes_rates.php

Awful lot of possibilities to get there by taxi or limousine.

Prices range from about 1200 (regular taxi) to 2400 (for "limo").

    What hotel have you booked?

Some offer pickup for a price of around 1300/1500.

Have you searched through the Pattaya subforum for up-to-date info?

There is another Coach service at 2000 to Pattaya near door 8/9 on the lower level(next to the Oasis? staff cafe).124 baht to Jom/Pat and song thaw to your hotel.

If you contact Bell travel they will give you there number.

    Ch :)

  13. TG and EVA normally have seat sales in May/June but this depends on how many tickets have been sold and at what price. After the private Schools break-up the UK(about 20th June)its classed as high season. As long as you leave the UK before this date its low and you cna return in ther high season and i assume its works in reverse? :) .

With the present troubles you might be lucky?.

    Good luck
