  1. I was told west is hottest, which makes sense. So we planted trees to shade the west facing walls and windows. Rather unplanned, the tree grew big and started to provide shade over the roof as well

Well, that west facing room is now the coolest room in the entire house!

The coolest place down here in the south to site a house is in a rubber plantation.

As a plantation attracts a few too many mosquitios , a line or two of rubber trees will suffice. With the price of rubber in free fall , the options are getting better.

With regard to feng shui , there is a simple way to 'fix' a bedroom where there is no other option to place the bed.

I know this is going to sound ridiculous , but an 'expert' sorted out our problem by making a sign and placing it on the hallside of our bedroom door.

It said in Thai , "This is not a door!"

Apparently the 'pii' are smart enough to be able to read , but stupid enough to believe Everything they read ( rather like some TV members ) , so they do not come into the bedroom , even though I would have thought a ghost basically wouldnt need a door anyway...

Problem ( an overly concerned Thai Lady ) solved ...[/quote

Yep,my friend brought a Black Toyota but it was bad luck for his Lady. Now there's a sign in the back window saying this Car is NOT Black!. :-)

  2. Before I married here,I had a pre-nup drawn up in the UK. Translated and then Certified at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Then witnessed and stamped by a proper Notary Public,in Thai and English. When we divorced in the UK, she only got the amount agreed etc. She kept the Bungalow etc we built here,no chance of fighting that here.

But I kept my UK house and pension rights, you have to protect yourself.

My ex set me up from the start, land I brought for the bungalow put in her Sisters name and so as the Bungalow was completed and she got her British passport, that was it!.

Good luck just be careful(I've been in a good relationship for 3 years now,but no legal marriage)

  3. Going back to the Wildtrack(sorry a bit of topic).

Today in Kanchanaburi and I asked, also available in Black or White(for those who remember,it's behind the Yellow! ;-)attachicon.gifImageUploadedByThaivisa Connect Thailand1413550155.296602.jpg.

3.2 Wildtrack 4X4 fully loaded etcetera

There will be no more 3.2L engines from Ford and Mazda in 2015. End of.

Ford are ditching the old Ford Transit mill.

And of course they're not going to tell the customer you'll be buying an obsolete model!.

They were offering up to 130,000 discount or 0% interest on various models. The full amount was on the old style Fiesta,I wonder what they will give next year off the 3.2?

  4. I agreed, just had a short test drive and bit bad.

    But only E20,not E85.

They tried to bullshit is because the Mobilio has 120HP and the City117,rubbish. Different engine's, similar CC,but it did nice nicely.

The basis model has only 5 seats, but folds down and has a hidden storage space with rubber mats in the load compartment.

What I don't understand is the 1 Year Warrenty,Nissan,Suziki and even Ford give 3 Yeara or 100,000K,strange for a better? product!

  5. Its a real shame the OP's topic has somehow started a bit of a War of Words.

I've not yet got a bike here,i keep an eye on the forum. But rarely comment as someone always seems to take offence,we all have different opinions and without them the World would be a very boring place.

Pity we just can't to agree to disagree without the personal attacks.

Just enjoy riding and hopefully passing on sound ideas and information to each other.

Kanchanaburi is a great biking area, but I've only had a chance to tour in a truck (so far)

Anyway OP,good luck with grumpy friends rediscovering of biking(I'm in a similar position).

    Cheers

  6. really? do you know how long is too long?

I helped a friend a few years ago with unpaid bills in his condo,if left for too long they had the right to sell it to pay the arrears

    Be very careful!.

If I remember correctly, I was told anything over a year.

Allegedly they had taken one back and sold it,probably on the cheap.

It might have been bullshit to scare people, but this came from the German who was the developers Manager.

  7. I've actually seen a Tricity taxi guy in Bkk once.

Seems a horrible choice but I see many taxi guys on PCXs also.

If I was a taxi guy I would get the narrowest bike possible like a Wave.

My girlfriend hates using the PCX Taxis as she complains the seats are too wide for her,but you have to use the next in line.

    I don't have that problem!

  8. I believe your pension provider is right. If the income arises in the UK then UK tax is payable. But your wife should have a single person's tax allowance (currently GBP 10,000) to offset against the pension. So she will pay tax of 20% of the balance of (pension - allowance). If her pension is GBP 10,000 pa or less then no tax is payable anyway. She will need an NI number so might pay emergency tax at first until her tax code and NI number are sorted out.

All these figures are likely to change both at the whim of the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the hopefully many years she remains your wife and not your widow!

Can I ask why a non-resident, non- UK citizen who hasn't made any income or contributions in the UK would be allowed a Personal Allowance?

    On the grounds of fairness.

Income arising and taxable in the UK should either (a) have a tax allowance that can be applied to it or, (B) nit be subject to tax in the UK but taxable in the country of the beneficiary.

I hope that will remain the case in the future for her and all expats keeping their personal tax free allowance for any pensions especially.
