Forward plan of action:
- check cabin crews flight training certificates as many bought on kao san road
- nobody gets fired, that is unthinkable. A jolly old reshuffle should suffice
- employ farang consultants to adhere to safety standards
-take all credit for meeting standards
- issue a statement speaking on behalf of ICAO & all countries that banned Thai airliners: "it was all a big misunderstanding, Thailand's safety standards were already very good but other countries didn't realise at the time."

Pathetic, unsubstantiated, prudish old school attitudes in this bizarre paradoxical country...(not bashing, I love living here). The thriving sex industry versus what is deemed inappropriate for non sex workers is a hot topic amongst these omnipotent culture ministers!

For the first time in a long time, an article that is spot on without being sensationalist journalism or propaganda. I admire his tenacity. Hope fortune favours the bold...

Another day another transfer. The public have been sated, the cops disciplined. Case closed. Justice served....

So. Thai.

Yehhh they're apparently so vital to the tourism industry that they have a green light to queue jump, spit on people, bite, slap, defecate in open public spaces.... Good eggs really.

One wonders how long Thailand can make the right noises for the international ears, buy more time, deliberate and basically fob everyone off...until the pressure becomes crippling. Then we may see more severe outbursts at press conferences and more bipolar behaviour / contradictory statements. It's all a game!

TVF members should coordinate our own poll across Bangkok to see the percentage of Bangkokians that believe Bangkok polls aren't fabricated. The never-ending decimal point percentage results with impeccable contemporary news timing is beyond laughable now and just embarrassingly cringey. Surely the masses don't buy into this absolute shiiiite?!?!?!

Translation - more censoring & soviet-style programming is in full effect. Keep the population as docile & subdued as possible!

Roll on a new wave of anti-US "journalism" and more ridiculous, hypothetical, sensationalistic stories with underlying tones of adult-adolescent rebellion. Enjoy the show folks.

Barely worth growing rice these days so don't really understand why so many do it for so little return.
Some just born into the family business. Ultimately there are rarely any new ideas in business for the local masses here. Open another coffee shop, export cheap jewellery,
Sell fish balls wholesale no noodle vendors...goes on & mostly low ROI. No originality & just a copycat culture!

"We will not deploy anyone to life three fingers" - the hunger games salute is still going?! Movie = real life, same same but different....

Usual headlines on rotation. Ain't fooling international community

All sorted then, nice one alpha dog! Next...

Smiling Assassins. I love this joke-shop of a country

Fun police strikes again. Alcohol time restrictions have been in force for ages at 711 & tesco lotus etc. Mom & pop shops / condo minimarts sell booze 24/7, that won't change. As if people will stay in a club after midnight if they can't drink. Once a party city now getting tamer & more regulated by the minute. This will hurt Bangkok!
-
Absolutely pathetic they are meddling and trying to ruin everything. Wish they'd stop power tripping, obsessing about baht more than usual and leave the adults to do business.

A start would be making it compulsory to wear seat-belts - takes me five mins of faffing around to get the holder from under the taxi back-seat, much to amusement of driver, sometimes angers him/her. Took one across Bangkok other day long journey - breakneck speeds, constant tailgating almost touching bumper. Shock absorbers blown out for sure as we flew over bumps shaking about violently. Sheer terror. When I said "me weylaa, chaa chaa geh dai" (i have time you can go more slowly) he laughed hysterically & it provoked him to up the F1 style driving. My Thai gf accompanying me said this was normal driving & she wasn't afraid...

Hmm nothing against the Russians as can't judge the calibre of "quality tourists" of any nationality- always good & bad eggs. However, I do feel a bit "som nam naa" towards TAT/Pattaya bars/restaurants/night scene for going way over the top to welcome Russian tourists at the expense of shunning other nationalities.
I recently stayed at a place between Pattaya & Jomtien & the whole area was totally geared at Russians. Menus in Thai&Russian only, many bars just with Russian signs - if we'd entered it would have been like going into a quiet country pub in England where the music stops & everyone stares then someone asks "are youuu locaall?". Whatever happened to encouraging a melting pot of all nationalities & mingling?! Baffles me how people go abroad & do everything they can do "stick to their own" - no desire to interact with locals or learn the lingo. Same with the Brits that flock to the English villages in Spain. Bizarre comfort zone stuff.

Weekly contradictory statements pertaining to foreign investment being either encouraged & facilitated or hindered with more red tape. Also Govt is about to make ISPs responsible for censoring content that might "threaten national security". Cue social media sites blocked within 6 months China-style.
Introduction of AEC on 31st December 2015 is *supposed* to free up competition etc. Also supposed to encourage Thai Govt to allow foreigners to own land...not a chance in hell. Agree with many posts here, alas the native mindset to protect own interests at all costs seems to consistently prevail (even if the cost is to push the potential "hub" of everything profitable into recession)...I'm just a law-abiding Mancunian lad trying to get by ☝. Throw the farangs a bone govt please!

The Thai way to compensate for a lack of demand pertaining to accommodation on the islands, flagging restaurants etc:
Increase prices to fleece the reduced numbers of tourists & attempt to make up for loss of earnings from reduced tourist numbers. So illogical & short-sighted but this happens everywhere.
Agree with other posts about govt finally bringing in western 'help' to improve tourism industry. The list of Dos & Don'ts I give to visiting friends gets longer by the week - how not to get hustled in Thailand! What a minefield this beloved place has become for a farang trying to obey the law & keep his head down...

This is not a move to deflect media attention. Western media shall not forget - in the run up to & during the trial there will be maximum coverage from BBC. With so much loss of face at stake from both Thai & Myanmar Goverment this could be a landmark case. I hope the truth prevails & ousts some major players within the ruthless corruption channels across government & mafia. The international stage is watching & the victims' families need real justice & a small measure of closure. Hoping that the trial's conclusion restores my faith in people's ability to do what is right.

I used to get irritated by so many mannerisms of different nationality tourists but now it just washes over me and i smile. The most amusing trait of Chinese tourists is their eagerness to photograph / see attractions up close with no regard for other tourists. The photo is from a recent samet trip outside ploy bar. They (with help from some farang backpackers) totally blocked the view of everyone else trying to watch the fire show!

Prayut to get names of 100 corrupt officials next week

Another day another reshuffle, no actual repercussions. Yawn.
