High Levels Of Sugar In Everything....

Featured Replies

Everytime I go out and eat breakfast ,lunch , and dinner I notice Im always eating alot of sugar, is thai food loaded with it? I see cooks use alot, and even in my drinks..... Any place to avoid? I like sugar but small quantities in it, not hugh amounts. I lke to eat healthy and I know from my mom telling me that alot of it is no good. thanks

For the food and drinks that are prepared on the spot, you can ask specifically for them to reduce the amount of sugar they put in - some simple expressions that may help:

mai sai nam-dtaan krap = don't add/put in sugar

mai chawb waan krap = I dont like (it) sweet

chuay lod nam dtaan hai noi = please reduce the (amount of) sugar

Practice on a Thai near you.

Unfortunately many things are simply too sweet for Western palates, and when it has already been prepared you don't have a choice except to abstain. I am worried about my teeth and premature diabetes as well. If you make sure you exercise and brush your teeth more often though, I guess you will be ok.

It's becoming more and more difficult to stay away from sugar laden foods. Most spicy thai foods have sugar added in order to offset the spicyness. Many of the supposedly healthy beverages are also spiked with sugar. Try to be vigilant about what you eat and also educated yourself further about the foods you eat.
