BANGKOK: -- The Government Lottery Office has decided to delay the allocation of lottery quotas to dealers two days later than normal schedule as part of a short-term measure to tackle lottery over-pricing.

GLO director Maj-Gen Chalongrat Nark-arthit said the office had received increasing complaints from lottery buyers of lottery overcharging from normally about 100 complaints a month to 500 in July and 800 in August.

He said GLO officials had also found out that lottery retailers had been increasingly selling lotteries in a set of two, three, five and more tickets rather than a single ticket because the sellers made profits faster while many buyers love it because they could win bigger amount of prizes.

Perhaps Prayuth can ask advice from President Trump on this issue, bigger and possibly harder to solve than any regional security issues.

Is the lottery ticket overpriced again??? How could that happen when they clearly has given very stringent instructions to follow? :cheesy:

And the list of junta-accomplishments of the past couple of years just decreased from 1 back to 0 again.

where do these overpriced tickets get sold ? I have never seen an overpriced ticket anywhere in BKK. Because there are usually 3 or 4 vendors right next to each other (Thai market saturation at work...just like 7-11s right across the street from each other), so anyone overcharging is clearly going to be spurned. I just don't get it..puzzled.

Encountered a few around the Nana Skytrain area couple months ago. Quoted B100...I just shook head and walked away. Later some different sellers quoted B90. I smiled and told them I am Thai...NOT farang. I want the Thai price! We all had a good laugh.

From the past:

11.Lottery tickets are too expensive, so let’s force sellers to sell at 80 baht. If they cannot do so, then stop selling.

On 12 May, Prayuth said on solving the excessive lotteries prices that he already ordered that the pricee to be 80 baht within the upcoming prize drawing day (16 May). If sellers cannot do that, they will have to stop selling.

“We have to make sure no one drops the ball on this because the lottery quota has to stay stable. This should be solved progressively, not violently, as there are millions of lottery ticket sellers. If they’re forced to stop selling, will they start whining about what they’re gonna eat? We can use our power, but we also have to think about the consequences. We can’t give everyone 100 per cent of what they want, since I don’t go walking around, selling tickets with them. We should look at the end result to see what form of selling is best, such as selling books of lottery tickets or at wholesale prices or online. Selling online is a back up plan, because online prices will make it so that sellers are too scared to increase the prices.”

Always announcements and new plans but never any follow up ACTION on the original plans!

If you buy a single ticket it costs 80 baht, but if you buy say five tickets with identical numbers it will cost 500 or more. Punters like to strike big money.

You can't buy a ticket for less than 100 Baht at the vendors  opposite the old Lottery office on Ratcher [what ever it's called] near Khaosan road.

Ok...I live outside any tourist areas for sure and have never seen a ticket for more than 80 baht. In my neighborhood, the locals will wait an extra 10 minutes to board the 6.5 baht bus when the 9 baht bus that runs the same route is available now....maybe that's why.

Hilarious. Wish I'd been there. Unmissable.

Unless I'm completely mistaken, it has to do with the numbers each vendor has for sale. Take for example two vendors selling tickets side by side. Vendor A might have a lottery number that B doesn't have and visa-versa. So, in effect they can charge more for their "special/lucky" numbers.

Just my understanding of the lottery tickets here... I played a number in the last lotter here, 1st Oct., and won nothing... then I read here that a MONK won big time... ?

Your so right walk away, but those who do not, pay the Farang price, now you know what its like you fools for buying overpriced goods.
