Despite doctors imploring him to stop a British man, running to raise money for the hospital where His Majesty died, says he must go on.

Chris Maynard, 37, set off from Chiang Mai on October 11th with other people including his wife heading for Hua Hin 900 kilometers away.

But searing heat has caused dehydration and swelling of the ankles.

Now doctors have advised him to stop for at least two or three days.

He went to hospital in Tak but soldiered on to Kamphaeng Phet where he finally had to be admitted. Now he is on a drip and resting after doctors told him he could suffer kidney damage if he keeps running.

He has been in a total of four hospitals in the last day or two.

Blood had appeared in his urine.

But the former Royal Marine is not easily daunted - he said via his wife's Facebook page that he intends to run on and complete the journey "in the name of the great king".

The group are raising money for a new building at Sirirat Hospital in Bangkok where His Majesty spent the last few years of his life.

They are trying to complete 60-70 kms per day and had hoped to finish with a candle lighting ceremony in the name of the king on October 25th at Klaikangwon Palace in Hua Hin..

This may now be delayed but Chris has vowed to fight on.
