A wealthy businessman who is head of the Thai/Chinese Chamber of Commerce has given himself up to police to face charges of fraud and assuming Thai identity under false pretenses.

Udom Juang met with Surachet Hakpan acting on behalf of the tourist police at Pathumwan police station.

Surachet said the suspect has tourism ventures with a turnover of 100s of millions of baht.

But there are doubts whether his activities are legal and he is a Thai citizen at all.

Surachet told reporters that Udom obtained a Thai ID card in 1991 after he married a Thai woman and had two children.

But he divorced and left the country to return in 1999 coming back under a new name.

He then married the same woman again.

In 2008 he applied for Thai nationality and officials became suspicious when he said he had one child and not two.

He is facing charges of giving false information and claiming Thai nationality illegally.

He was bailed as he gave himself up voluntarily but faces deportation if the charges against him are proven.

And this is the head of the Thai/Chinese Chamber of Commerce. One can imagine the transparency and legality of decisions made there.. buahahaha..

I can't fight the feeling, you have a totally unrealistic idea about the real purpose of that Thai/Chinese Chamber of Commerce, if you are expecting transparency and legality ....  ;-)
