Ferry services between Hua Hin and Pattaya will be suspended on Nov 5-6 for safety reason due to strong waves in the Gulf of Thailand, the Prachuap Khiri Khan marine office announced on Saturday (Nov 4).

Kittiporn Thepyu-amnuay, chief of the disaster prevention and mitigation office of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, said the Region 3 marine office announced the suspension of the ferry services after consulting with concerned agencies and the ferry operator.

The Thai Meteorological Department has predicted that waves in the Gulf of Thailand will be 2-3 metres high as low pressure cell covers the lower South.

Should have bought a bigger ferry to handle the worst of conditions.

Bish bash bosh... the sea states in the Gulf of Thailand are sh!t at this time of year but only for about a couple of months. No need to get a 'bigger ferry' when sea conditions are perfectly acceptable for the current boats for more than 80% of the year.

In normal conditions, ferry from Hua Hin is great

What is ennoying is that the ferry allows Pattaya residents to come to Hua Hin: that should be forbidden

Plenty of the older, more genteel Hua Hin coffin dodgers popping over for a quick Pattaya service as well although some say they can't afford full-service and settle for lube jobs and "wiping the dead bugs of the windshield".

Just had a Tropical Depression pass through the lower Gulf of Thailand quickly followed by the remnants of Typhoon Damrey that fizzled out over western Cambodia after killing at least 15 people in central Vietnam. Seas were around 5 m and winds gusting to 30 knots in southern GoT (where I am) on 3rd/4th. The GoT is shallow so it picks up quick and accordingly lays down equally fast.

The suspension of the ferry service is well-timed.
