Drug suspect killed by police in Udon Thani

By The Nation

A notorious drug pusher was killed by police in Udon Thani on Friday night when he allegedly resisted arrest.

Pol Colonel Jakkrapong Kenthaway, commander of the Kudjub police station, said Surapong Chanthachat, 29, alias Jack of Chiang Peng, was shot dead at his hut in Ban Chiang Peng village in Tambon Chiang Peng of Kudjub district at 9pm.

Jakkrapong said the suspect was killed by a team of officers dispatched to arrest him following an earlier drug bust. Suspects in the earlier bust implicated him.

He was shot at the left side of his chest, his left arm and left leg. A .357 revolver and a 9.mm pistol were found near his body. Many rounds of ammunitions were also found on him. Police found 20 methamphetamine pills on him and found two more pistols in the hut.

Pol Maj-General Surachai Kuandechakup, acting chief of Provincial Police Bureau 4, said Surapong fired at policemen first when officers approached his hut, resulting in the exchange of gunfire.

Surachai said Surapong was notorious for allegedly selling drugs in the area and for using guns to intimidate villages.

Are we 100% this guy was not an innocent bystander?

He only had 20 tabs on him and 3 cartridges of bullets.

No. Jack was known bad bugger, no excuses. Users usually have 1 or 2 tabs on them, mules have hundreds or thousands of tabs while pushers have 'only' 20 tabs... and a hut full of guns.

Bad guy or not, I always get the idea a criminal killed by the police calls for an investigation.

Certainly Thailand doesn't need a repeat of the Thaksin "war on drugs"

I have every confidence that the police will do a full and complete investigation following this incident... every confidence :cheesy:
