NCPO cosiders local elections prior to general poll

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam on Thursday said the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) was considering allowing local elections at various levels including tambons and municipalities.

Wissanu said the NCPO had discussed the matter with the Interior Ministry, adding that it was possible that the ban on political gatherings would be lifted for the elections.

The NCPO wanted to have local polls completed before the national election, Wissanu said.

However, the lifting of the ban would not be undertaken immediately because there were legal issues to be considered as preconditions, as several laws concerning local administrations were not in line with the new Constitution, Wissanu said.

He added that a legal amendment was under discussion by relevant agencies, which would meet with him soon.

It was necessary to keep the road map for local elections in mind, Wissanu said, although it was a different matter than the national “road map to democracy”.

The best approach would be to conduct local elections before the national election, otherwise they would overlap, he said.

Yes? Then what? Political ban again? Where's this all going? Just talking nonsense to distract?

By the time these organic laws and amendments are finalized the local administrations won't be able to get in line.

You know what they say if you can't convince them, confuse them.

Old story, new headline.

How could you possibly hold elections if the ban is not lifted?

Boring this guy loves the sound of his own voice and photo shoots to much. Give it a rest please

So are the local elections an indicator of people voting for the good people correctly?

Nice delay tactic.  The tediousness of the current government is like a rash that just will not go away.  They are going to milk their position as long as they can.

They call it " Testing the water"  They will throw into the local elections some of their own candidates from the "Army Party" to see how they go and if they do no good start up unrest and say Now is not the time to hold elections

Really just tired talking about non - event elections  I be here in 10 years time and still the Army will be in power:post-4641-1156694572:

They can claim what they like but no one will buy it. If yesterday's reports in the local media are accurate, the gloves are now off.

Smoke and mirrors, smoke and mirrors.

I think to play smoke and mirrors you need to be clever, which is not a strong point with regards to the current government. This is just blatant. The gloves are off now.  It's gone from being laughable to actually pretty scary.  Prayut doesn't seem to care anymore what people think or what the international community thinks.  Still, lets hope that the Thai people will stand up to this manic at some point. Unfortunately, that will probably mean facing Junta's new tanks, armoured vehicles and helicopters.  The Thai army has shown in the past that it has no problem gunning down the country's citizens.

Hows the local ballot paper going to look ? I imagine it will be...

□ Junta

□Junta

□Junta

□Re Education

Well let's face it, that was always on the cards. It is a military junta. It seized power in a coup, which forestalled an election which would have almost certainly resulted (as the previous four elections had), in a government which, although the one chosen by the people, was the one which they disliked. There is no way they will hand power back voluntarily, they are a junta remember.

And if their conscript army cannot be relied upon, well why do you think that the "volunteers for democracy" are being raised? After all their predecessors were jolly useful at Thamassat University back in 1976.

I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that it will, eventually, be very very messy. Remember that, all you enthusiasts for a coup.
