Consumer spending rises yoy after 'Shop for the Nation' scheme rolls out

BANGKOK, 14 November 2017 (NNT) - Consumer spending has risen, after the government's stimulus measure ‘Shop for the Nation’ went into effect on November 11th.

Pattaraporn Penprapat, Deputy Managing Director for Marketing and Public Relations of Central Food Retail, said consumer spending rose by 20% during the first two days of the scheme compared to same period last year.

She believes that up to three billion baht will be spent at Central Food Halls and Tops Supermarkets during the stimulus period. Broadly speaking, Pattaraporn expects over 10 billion baht in cash flow will circulate the nation's economy before the scheme concludes on December 3rd.

The deputy managing director added that consumer spending next month is not expected to slow down after the scheme's end. According to her, people usually spend more during the last two months of the year, regardless of incentives.

She assured that Central Food Retail will not take advantage of the scheme by raising prices.

So, no change?

Last year, and the year before, the same stimulus measure was implemented only at a later date (somewhere in December).

By doing it a bit earlier they gave themselves the opportunity to show record sales compared to previous years but there will be no mention of record lows a few weeks from now (when this stimulus ends and you compare it to previous years when the stimulus measures were active).

All smoke and mirrors.

And i doubt many people fall for it and expect better time to come.

Last year this time was also right after the King Bumibol's death which left the people sad which I'm sure depressed sales of many products.

Spending money they haven't got on things they don't need!
