Culture Ministry calls for return of ancient Thai artifacts

BANGKOK, 21 November 2017 (NNT) – The Ministry of Culture is speeding up the process for the return of ancient Thai artifacts.

The ministry's ad hoc committee has called for the recollection of the artifacts originated from Thailand and acknowledged the verification of 17 of those ancient items currently under the possession of Honolulu Museum of Art in the United States.

The verification, as requested by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has verified 14 out of 17 items to have their origin in Thailand, including a pre-historic bell made of bronze, and a buddha statue from Ayutthaya era.

The committee will inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to report the verification results to the Department of Homeland Security, and will establish a priority list for the recollection of verified items, with 24 items now being prioritized to process the recollection protocols first through letters issued in the name of the Royal Thai Government.

In addition, the Department of Homeland Security has called for cooperation with Thailand to verify 69 artifacts, all from pre-historic age and believed to be originated from Thailand and are currently stores in museums in the United States. They include bronze bracelets and painted pottery items.

Most Thais don't even know the history of Thailand, which is shocking, as it is the center of the universe

Not that the Thais would do much with the artefacts if returned. If this were to happen then one might as well return very artefact in every museum to the original country. This is not going to happen and not always desirable.

For heaven sake do not pick a fight with the USA as the last time we saw a fight, Cambodia kicked the ass of the locals.

What about this Emerald Buddha, was it stolen from Laos or was it originally from the Lanna Kingdom as the Thais says?
