Deputy PM visits Thailand workers

Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An yesterday visited migrant workers in Thailand, where he told them the government is working hard to get them the same benefits workers in Cambodia enjoy. Ms Sam An visited workers in Pathum Thani province in Thailand yesterday, telling them not to believe people who tell them the government is bad and does not care about them.

 

She told them that the government is working with Asean countries including Thailand to get migrant workers the same benefits enjoyed by workers here, including social security, pensions and maternity leaves. “What workers get here, workers abroad will receive, too,” she said. “Now we are working with those countries.”

 

Last month, Labour Minister Ith Samheng announced that the government was discussing ways to make sure that migrants get equal access to pensions when they returned home.Prime Minister Hun Sen also said recently that the government is negotiating with other countries that employ Cambodians to ensure that migrant workers have workplace accident insurance and life insurance.
