I noticed recently that new Mall next to big C  and not too far from Central festival seems to empty of workers and progress seems to have stopped .Its a Yellow color outside and i think it was to be a fashion Mall .Anyone know whats up ?

It was supposed to be the Chiang Mai branch of Bangkok's Platinum Mall. My wife went to their sales office a couple years ago to investigate and brought home a huge glossy brochure. They were taking deposits from sellers at the time and warning that space was nearly sold out so she'd better decide soon!! I am (and she is) so glad she walked away from that debacle. Looks like it's gonna become yet another one of Thailand's infamous abandoned buildings.

As I understand it, it does have some connection to the infamous Platinum Fashion Mall in Pratunam, Bangkok. But the investment has been financed in dribs and drabs and work has been done by very small crews. It appears that there has been a lot of work done as of late. BTW, I was right by there today and there were several trucks unloading building materials.

The outside looks almost complete.Yesterday i could not see any sign of life.I would guess that it will be completed in a rather slow fashion ( forgive the pun ) .Also the German brewery pub behind it a few streets still has not reopened .They had a sign outside it about a year ago saying ''soon to open ''.Now there are so many new Condo blocks in that area they might do well ,if their prices are right .

I estimate that more than 80% of those condo blocks are vacant. My friend has a business in that area and and she says that in some of those buildings there is never any lights on - ever and she has never seen any vehicles come or go. Some of the businesses that have rented in that area have folded in less than 6 months (more like 3 months). The rents are astronomical (double shop fronts over 125K THB per month) and there seems to be very little foot or other traffic in that area.

But the owner of that entire CMBP area is not hurting for money so it will probably sit there for a long time.......

It's a shame that it's taking off so slowly.  It could be a good location if you are a condo dweller, but ridiculously high rents for the shops that are needed to make it a community of any worth will probably kill it.  The lack of vision here is extraordinary.
