Which consulates/embassies in the region don't ask for bank statement?

Featured Replies

I hear they have enforced the proof of funds requirement for SETV. Savannakhet and KL being some of the places that do. Any info on Vientiane?

Also, would just bank balance suffice for does it have to be a statement for a certain period?

Bank balance only - no time-factor.

You don't need to show bank-balance, nor outgoing air ticket, nor hotel-booking at Vientiane.  All 3 are needed for many others, and some even want to see your incoming-ticket, as well as outgoing.

I did 2+1 months single entry tourist visa at Vientiane today. They only want;

-Passport

-Passport copy

-Last Thai, Laos visa and stamp copy

-Application form

-2 photos

-1,000 Baht

(all documents have to be signature)

but just in case today when I also give;

-My girlfriend ID card copy and she write in Thai “I know him long time. He’s my boyfriend. I’m his guarantor.”

-Flight ticket to Thailand go and leave copy

-My girlfriend condo contract copy

-Thai departure card copy

As already posted, no proof of funds in Vientiane.

In some locations, they may or may not request proof of funds, or you can use proof of funds to get them to waive other requirements. As an example, Ho Chi Minh City wants to see flight reservations into and out of Thailand. However, if you can show proof of funds (recent bank balance) they are willing to waive the flight reservation requirement. Another example is that Phnom Penh will not request proof of funds for someone without previous tourist visas in their passport, but typically will if they see several previous visas.

Some places generally not requiring proof of funds (sometimes with the option of doing so to waive other requirements) are Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Yangon, Hong Kong (great place to apply) and Vientiane.

Does the Vientiane apply for all nationalities?

Not all nationalities can apply for visas at Vientiane and at many other embassies and consulates. Some can only apply in their home country.

Vientiane's list is here. http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/upload/pdf/RestrictedCountries2013.pdf

Make sure you have all your documentation in order before going to avoid any refusal or unexpected surprise.

Wow thanks for that list. Got a Chinese in the group. Is that list up to date though? It says it's from 2013. I hear they don't update their website much and that you cant depend on the info there.

It has not changed since then. Chinese cannot apply for visas anywhere other than China unless they have legal residence in the country where they apply.

Here is the list from another embassy dated March of this year. http://www.thaiembassy.org/kualalumpur/contents/files/services-20170329-110629-261260.pdf

Tell me your country at 1 pm I’ll go pick up my passport. I’ll ask for you.

US and Ireland is OK

Namibia, Egypt and China are listed.

Brazil OK but they get a 90 day visa exempt entry under a bilateral agreement so unless they have several of them already a tourist visa is not needed.

Thanks ubonjoe. Any idea about Phnom Penh?

It can take up to 3 days to get the visa there. Most people use an agent.

Same for the unlisted countries.

Info on their website is a little confusing but I think in the end it will be no for the listed countries.
