Interesting Article On Thailand's Future Economy

Featured Replies

Here is an interesting Newsweek article on Thailand's Buddhist Economics that some may find interesting. I can't post in the Newsclipping section, so I put it here.

Buddhist Economics

Thailand is now charting a 'middle path' set out by its beloved king. But will new measures bolster the shaky junta, or simply kill the economy?

Good article, especially the conclusion.

Obviously there would be a lot more to say, but for a magazine article it's definately refreshing. It appears that the honeymoon period with the media is now over for the generals.

Second hand cribbed cliches full of plain untruths- ie 'the generals delay returning power to the people', there has been no change to the planned election date.

'or simply kill the economy'! Colonel,as someone who professes to understand Thailand, can you really accept this superficial, generalising pulp fiction?

Just because you personally agree with the junta, and the "new-age waffle" (the economist) that sufficiency economy is, it does not mean that the opposition to it does not have some points also you should think about. More than a few Thai academics share the general view of this article, of course expressed more in depth than the limitations of a news magazine can allow.

But as a starter into the present situation, and for the outsider, this article does represent a refreshing view, unlike the previous sycophantic press releases of resident correspondents scared of rocking the boat and losing the most comfortable post in the region.
