Jookster
Any ideas on a beach near Bangkok for just a couple of night? I know Pattaya is near but you can't really swim in the sea there, and its just full of bargirls and farrangs seeking them. I was thinking Hua Hin by bus from Victory Monument. Suggestions please............

lannabull
Koe Samet and Koe Chang are close than Hua Hin, not to mention cheaper, less franchised, and far fewer pastie overweight falong couples strolling the resort dominated beaches. Id check that out..

Id check that out.. I agree with the destination, however there are still lots of other falang about. Koh Chang has been made even more easily accessible due to the fact that you can fly there, flight takes about 35-40 mins and in total travel time from A-B is about 2 hours and YES you can swim there

We've stayed in a lovely quiet resort by the beach called Lom Talay if memory serves me right. The sea is great for swimming - not much marine life but shelves very gently if you're not a great swimmer. Best of all is the seafood though
bkkmick
There's also the small island of Koh Se Chang. Not much to do but, if you've nothing better to do one day, worth a boat ride. Turn right just after Chon Buri, stop at the water and take a ferry.

astral
Bang Saen for proximity, but be aware it is Thai resort without the facilities of Pattaya. Much better are Cha-am and Hua Hin on the other side of the Gulf of Thailand. Less commercialised than Pattaya.

Suggestions please............ Haad Chao Samran comes to mind .. the beach just outside Phetchaburi. Reasonably priced guest houses, a distinct Thai feel, walking distance to a traditional outdoor market. Puktien Beach (further south) is another option.
