Mama Mia! Muscle making monk misses morning meditation!

Thais were wondering about the appropriateness of a holy father going to the gym rather than seeking spiritual enlightenment yesterday.

This monk had ditched his saffron robes and was lying down lifting dumbbells.

He seemed less concerned with absolution and more worried about solutions for his abs.

He was with lay friends - a woman and a man - at a gym that is part of a top-end condominium complex in the Sathorn area of downtown Bangkok.

Poster of the footage on Facebook "Phor Pimsomrudee" asked if this was appropriate - should he not be meditating back at the temple?

Tnews added some big block letters and dramatic music to the video to try and make it interesting.

Course he'll be back, he needs to collect some money from the gullible punters for his gym membership !

What we're missing is the low-down on what sort of a monk he is.

He seems to give the impression to be more interested in extra-monk activities, rather than concentrating on real buddhist doctrine.

So to be cynical, at least if he's pumping iron he's not pumping someone else.

Poster of the footage was too scared to ask the monk directly about appropriateness...

Needs more time in the gym and a head shave.

Is there a law against monks working out ?

Seems some people are over sensitive and find offence everywhere.

I have no idea.. I am asking because I am not a religious person and don't know the ins and outs of it..

Yeah, sure! That works in theory but not in reality.

The rules for the monkhood is really old and comes from a time where it was possible to get what you need without owning something as an example.

Today we contact each other in different ways. We use email and mobile phones. That is also something that by the rules of the monkhood is prohibited to be owned by a monk.
As you clearly can understand. Times change. Personally, I do not have any problem with a monk going to a gym. That is something healthy and good. What I do have problem with is monks smoking as an example. That is something unhealthy and bad that should not be associated with living as a monk.
