Approximately 95 million U.S. households—or about 66% to 71% of all homes in the country—own at least one pet.

Who knows what the stats are in Thailand…

But, I would estimate that there are, in Thailand, an estimated 5.38 million registered or surveyed household pets, with around 37% of Thai households owning at least one pet.

Here in Thailand, dogs and cats are the most common animals.

But, cat ownership continues to grow  rapidly by an astounding 28% each year.

I would say that most pet owners prefer mammals.

Still, there is significant ownership of reptiles in both Thailand and in the USA.

Did you know that, in the United States, roughly 1.3 million households own at least one pet snake?

Here in Thailand, snakes are also valued.

If you love exotic snakes, then Thailand and SE Asia have them.

Admittedly, snakes are very beautiful. Yet, they must usually be kept in aquariums, same as tropical fish.

Most people here do not have anacondas, which are rare, even though there are many who boast that they do have one.

Throughout my life I've cared for a great variety of pets such as cats, dogs, fish, exotic birds (especially mynahs), javelina, monitor lizards, skunks, owls, hawks and my favorite...snakes. But as I grew older, I learned to appreciate them more outside of a cage than inside. So, now I don't own any pets, preferring to see them run free outdoors in their own habitats.

Alright, I’m not going to judge your taste, but clearly you seem to prefer keeping unpredictable animals or mobile killing machines in your home. There’s no way of knowing whether they’ll bite you to death or eat you while you’re asleep. But at least they’ll never trick you into spending all your money until you end up homeless on the street.

I personally like mammals as pets. I don’t tend to keep pets very often, though, because I have to make an emotional investment in them and accept the fact that they will eventually reach the end of their lives.

I love both cats and dogs, and have nothing against snakes.

Many years ago, my friend had one cat and a tank of tropical fish.

Cats and fish go together.

In my opinion, one of the best things you can do to keep your cat happy, and mentally alert, is to install a tropical fish tank.

These days, if you don't have the time to buy and manage a saltwater aquarium, then the next best thing for your cat is to keep your computer running, when you are not at home, using a video such as this:

Of course, there is no need to have an extended length video.

Most cats can be fooled and will watch the same video, over and over again.

So, the trick is to just push the REPEAT button on YouTube, and your cat will not be the wiser, if you do.

My favorite fish are the tiny NEON TETRAs....but, your cat might have other preferences.

The worst thing you can do is to leave your house for a few hours while your cat remains at home, bored.

She's never happy upon your return, unless you think of some ways to keep her occupied during your absence.
