Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda on Wednesday clarified the ministry’s spending of two billion baht to inform and educate the public about the Thai Niyom project.

He said that about 2,000 officials were involved in the job to explain to the people in 70,000 villages across the country about the purpose of Thai Niyom project.

At each meeting with the people in each village, he said that the ministry had to host free lunch for all the participants, including the attending villagers, resource persons and officials.

Did someone say "free lunch"?

Just topping up the trough for the hungry little piggys... Oink oink

Would  that  2  billion include the  massive upgrading of the  village  speaker systems as  in my location they have extended where these  bloody annoyances go to EVERYWHERE, there are  no houses  now even in remote  places that cant here their daily propaganda, it  must easily  have doubled in size.

Most money spent on 50 baht lunches? 2 billion baht divided by 50 give 40 million lunches. Lot of porkies or bad reporting from PBS, the Broadcaster You Can Trust.

disgusting.. absolutely disgusting...

I wonder what the budget for re education facilities will be.

Overarching political and social phillosophies normally take generations or more to develop and mature.

These chaps however are in a hurry, the peasantry are beginning to discover the outside world - and they have to do something to counter that. That costs...

Now they’re tripling down on the idea.

Spending 2 billion baht of the public’s money to tell the same public, “you might have nothing, but you are lucky to be Thai!”.

I wonder how many free lunches it takes to buy one vote

Yes, apparently there was 25 million people who chose not attend, otherwise, the bill would have been much higher.

Good to see the tax I pay being spent so frugally and on such a good cause.

Two billion baht........that's quite a few Richard Milles!

have you priced super cars lately?

the two billion baht number is completely reasonable.

Another thoughtless and frivolous spending to enhance someone ego and junta propaganda . 2 billion down the drain better spend on rural education. The treasury must be now running on empty with all these wasteful spending and siphoning for dirty deeds.

No explanation necessary. Everybody can add one and one and get the right answer.
