Veera and Sombat face charge of inciting unrest

Two wellknown political activists who took part in the Jan 27 political gathering to demand an early election are facing the charge of inciting unrest.

Pol Gen Srivara Ransibrahmanakul, the deputy national police chief, said Friday (Feb 2) that there were clear photographic and eyewitness evidences to show that the conduct of Mr Veera Somkwamkid and Mr Sombat Boonngamanong was deemed an incitement of unrest under Section 116 of the criminal act.

Mr Veera is the secretary-general of the People’s Network against Corruption who has strongly criticised Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon over the expensive wristwatch scandal, while Mr Sombat is a former red shirt leader and a pro-democracy activist.

IMHO the primary cause of unrest in the Kingdom is the constant delays to the election.

Perhaps Uncle Too and his horologist mate Toad of Toad Hall should also be charged.

Questioning the excesses of authority is equal to inciting unrest.  The junta really wants to explore every soi of that low road.

Who would have thought that a ultra right yellow shirt and a ultra left red shirt would be on the same stage with the same message. Prayut has done his part for reconciliation. Thank you.

Well the junta can now claim they planned this all along.   This was their vision for bringing the whole country together.  The watches, the Friday night TV shows the police state were just the armies way of getting Thais to work together.   It is mind numbing and fascinating all that the same time.

Probably all planed by mastermind Prayut, deep down he must have known that the only way to unite Thailand is to give them a common enemy. He as a good soldier has sacrificed himself to be the boogeyman so red and yellow would unite and heal the country (nice fantasy story).

I bet it was not planned this way but it seems to work out this way.

This is a sure sign the military is nervous about its shaky legitimacy. Why else use national security laws against people exercising their right to free expression in a pretty harmless way?
