Cambodia Daily’s website, Twitter blocked by government order

Documents obtained today – and a surprising tweet – have confirmed what observers have suspected for months: that the Cambodian government ordered internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to the website of the recently shuttered Cambodia Daily.

Since shortly after the newspaper was forced to close on September 4, following the levying of a $6.3 million tax bill, access to the Daily’s site has proved patchy, with online users questioning whether certain ISPs had blocked the site.

Documents show that Tax Department head Kong Vibol asked the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPTC) to order ISPs to block the Daily’s IP address, Facebook page and Twitter account, primarily to “prevent the Cambodia Daily from making an excuse for why they were shut down from publishing, and secondly, to prevent them from continuing to operate online”, according to a letter dated September 5.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Hun Sen himself is the mafia in Cambodia. He is a money grubbing, power hungry, land grabbing multi billionaire, who stops at nothing to maintain his power, and amass more fortune. In addition, his resume includes many years as a commander in the Kymer Rouge, where he engaged in serial killing. Quite a leader. He is getting old, and is paranoid. His personal security detail numbers over 5,000 men. There are countless people who want him dead. Of course he is trying to curb the media. The real scandal, is why all the western power are complicit in this crimes. Where is the condemnation? Where are the sanctions? Where is the UN in all of this?

He, same as other similar "characters" (Duterte, Erdogan, and then there is a quite new President in the US of A as well), has once been elected in a democratic way. If that election was held according to international standards, is another story. But I doubt the UN or any other organization will care much - Cambo is simply too much of a backwater, void of any natural resources (except super-cheap manpower that the textile industry and recently the Chinese happily continue to exploit )
