Lonely elderly woman begs to see children again

By The Nation

A 90-year-old woman living alone in a decrepit house in Nakhon Ratchasima begged the news media on Monday to help locate any of her six children.

Sangiam Sungnone told reporters she wanted to be reunited with her children before she died.

She’d lived alone inside a house with holes in the brick walls and rusted-out gaps in the iron sheets forming the roof.

The house is just outside Moo 6 village in Tambon Pong Daeng, Kham Thalay Sor district. Neighbours take turns seeing to Sangiam’s needs.

Early reports of her predicament prompted government agencies and members of the public to raise Bt300,000 to build her a new house.

While it’s being built, she’s staying with a neighbour.

Sangiam said she could remember the name of only one daughter – Prawin Kwanmuang – and didn’t know where she lives.
