Mel Gibson's Apocalypto

Just watched the new Mel Gibson's movie, Apocalypto...as far as I'm concerned, it's a waste of money and good specialist that could be used for other project. 99% of the movie is a violent scene, spends very little time (almost none) on showing the real mayan history and traditions and there is no real subject.

I think this guy should see a shrink, his thirst for blood is huge, don't even want to think about his The Passion of the Christ, wich was also full of blood and violence.

I've not scene the apocalypto; however, I've seen a 1 year old who has a bigger than life view of life and presents some of the funniest and well-inspired representations of why people should live.

I wish she could make a film and people like us could enjoy her view of life.

Not a guy who ... well... seems to be lacking.

I think I will pass on the movie. Mel Gibson. been there. seen 1 film. Gott the STD, er, I mean DVD.

I'd rather spend 2 hours with the priceless little 1 year old I know.

Probably the best film ever, if not in a long time at least.. Alex, if you never picked up on the "moral" of the story, i truly feel for you.. Its about facing your fears, love, courage, change and cutting peoples heads off..Great stuff..

Well, if you think this is the best movie ever...no offence, but I guess you should get medical help ASAP. It makes the SAW series look like a joke in the violence dept. As for the moral...I found none, just blood and violence.

i guess it must have been a very bloodthirsty civilization. Seemed very realistic, acting was quite good I thought. The only thing that spoiled it was introduction of default american movie moral themes underlying the plot.

Maybe it really was a bloodthirsty civilization, eitherway, he made a great deal of bloodshed out of Passion of the Christ too, way too much blood and violence in such a special movie. I guess I liked him better as a cop in his early movies. Not even Braveheart was that "bloody" as any of these two movies.

You seem to have a perverse intrest in going to see blatantly blood thirsty films and then moaning that it's too blood thirsty.

The moral was that tribes of all kinds make war against each other through using gods as a tool. It also potrays the world in tribal areas as savage and very violent, which they were when they fought for land. Then after all the bloodshed among themselves the white man turns up to colonise them...

Time for slavery and plunder.... do you get it now?

You stated you never found a moral to the story...I gave you my interpretation of what moral I found. Anyways he did make his point with all the violence and bloodshed.

Good Movie :D

In high school, we used to say, "That's as funny as a truckload of dead babies."

Cartoon of the old Mayan/Aztec days, with a young teenager being forcibly carried up the steps of the pyramid, to be sacrified to the gods. Two old geezers watching it say, "That's the trouble with young folks today; they don't appreciate the old-time religion!"

There's a horrific mural on the wall of the regional museum in southernmost Mexico. It shows a boy and girl, ages about 9, pure and innocent, draped in sacred jaguar skins, smiles on their faces, happy that they were the chosen ones to be sacrified to the Jaguar God.

Bernal's account of the conquest of Mexico City by Cortez's army depicts unbelievable human bloodshed in the capital, although the conquistadores probably spilled more blood than the Aztecs did.

Religon that needs to kill human beings is false. Being thrilled at watching people kill people is sick, in my pacifist opinion. "Hey Maude, let's go to the cinema today and watch a horde of savages kill another horde of savages, and then let's go to church, and eat rare meat!"

If you must see a movie about facing your fears, love, courage, change and cutting peoples heads off, rent "Gandhi" and notice it's the obedient, proper, British colonial soldiers who chop the heads off.

Great film, one of the best I've seen. The depiction of tribal life in the jungle (the animal hunts) and village life was in my opinion brilliant.

Yes, it was brutal and bloodthirsty, but from all accounts that's what the Mayan dynasty was. Human sacrifice to the sun gods was commonplace. The belief factor was stretched a little at times, but scenically the film was outstanding. The photography out of this world.

I really can't understand why people whose sensibilities are easily offended go to see films that will upset them! In these days of mass communication it's not as if they are walking into a surprise.

Oh no!! I've just been incensed!! :o I better go talk about it to everybody I can!

I thought it was one of the rare films that make you interested in what the director wants to say. That is a tall order. Most of the time the movies are about what people want to see, only few reflect directors own passions, and most of those are really juvenile.

Gibson put out some serious questions about the role and responsibility of religion in people's lives.
