snoop1130
Krabi International Airport fixing its runway By Kritsada Mueanhawong Krabi International Airport will fix its runway from midnight tomorrow (March 6) onward. The process is expected to take about one week. Only about 5-6 international flights are expected to be affected. The Director of Krabi International Airport, Attaporn Nuang-Udom, revealed that the runway where the damage is located is at the U-turn point before the plane takes off and the reason of the crack is the high amount of flights taking off and skidding their tyres around the U Turn point, which is about 100 times per day from international and domestic traffic. There are 2 spots needing to be repaired, including runway 32 and runway 14 (either end of the single runway), which are made of asphaltic concrete. Each of them has a 3×5 metre crack and surface damage. ozfarang
"the reason of the crack is the high amount of flights taking off and skidding their tyres around the U Turn point" Complete rubbish. The laying of the tarmac was inferior and has lifted off the subsurface. I have operated out of many of the airports in the middle east and this was not a problem with temperatures way above what Thailand experiences. Also traffic numbers were/are well in excess of those quoted in the article. Cost cutting and substandard work, which is common across the country. Close enough is good enough.
