CHANNEL KNIFE STUNT: DANNY TOMMO GOES TOO FAR

RESCUE WORKER ONBOARD AS ACTIVIST SLASHES DINGHY

Daniel “Danny Tommo” Thomas has taken his campaign against Channel crossings into dangerous new territory after filming himself using a knife to slash an inflatable dinghy while a rescue worker was aboard.

Thomas was following boats carrying asylum seekers across the Channel when he approached a dinghy that had just been emptied during a rescue operation.

KNIFE ATTACK ON DINGHY

In footage livestreamed to his followers, Thomas can be seen stabbing the inflatable several times as air escapes from the vessel.

A rescue worker wearing high-visibility clothing and a helmet was on the dinghy at the time.

Thomas shouted for the worker to get off before telling his companions: “Let’s go lads. Let’s go.”

The footage does not show what happened to the rescue worker after Thomas's boat moved away.

The incident has prompted condemnation from refugee charities and triggered a police investigation. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said officers were making inquiries into the boat-slashing incident.

PROTESTERS WAITED IN GOSPORT

The Channel confrontation came as hundreds of anti-immigration protesters gathered in Gosport, Hampshire, expecting asylum seekers rescued at sea to be brought ashore there.

Thomas had called on supporters to turn up at 7pm, while police deployed scores of officers and vans around the area.

But the expected confrontation never happened.

Instead, Border Force took the rescued group away from Hampshire and transported them to Dover.

Thomas had therefore spent the afternoon chasing boats in the Channel while his supporters waited on shore for an arrival that never came.

A DANGEROUS CROSSING

The people at the centre of the operation had already endured an exceptionally long and hazardous journey.

The RNLI said there had been concerns about deteriorating health and the possibility of a “catastrophic failure” of their dinghy after they had spent around 36 hours at sea.

The French coastguard said about 60 people had spent more than 33 hours in precarious conditions before the RNLI helped transfer them to a Border Force vessel.

The rescue charity has since stressed that its crews rescue anyone in trouble at sea, regardless of their nationality or immigration status.

WHO IS DANNY TOMMO?

Thomas is the founder of Patriot Platform, which has brought together a number of nationalist protest groups for increasingly organised anti-immigration demonstrations.

He has previously spent two years in prison for attempted kidnapping and has become a prominent figure in the recent protests around Dover, Portsmouth and other locations.

His movement has used social media to organise supporters and, increasingly, to document confrontational activity around the Channel.

The latest incident represents a significant escalation because this time the confrontation was not simply on the quayside or outside an immigration facility.

It happened in the middle of the Channel, during a rescue operation, with an emergency worker aboard the boat Thomas was attacking.

And that is likely to put the focus firmly on the police investigation now under way.

He was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to an attempted kidnapping at knifepoint. He forced his way into a man's home on Hayling Island accusing him of stealing his drugs.

They don't have to.......but he is savvy enough to recognise there's a lot of money to be made from one of the Ms in M&Ms.

Just can't understand why all those 3rd World Doctors, Engineers and Lawyers are fleeing war torn France in the first place?.

These Patriots stopping the boats today come from the same heroic stock as the Civilians who took part in Operation Dynamo between May & June 1940 stepping up when needed.

I was surprised......but apparently the English language is a huge draw.....along with the free iPhones, 5* hotels, chauffeur driven cars, free health care and £9.90 a week.....obvs.
