Civil servants to receive Khmer New Year bonuses

Featured Replies

The Cambodian government issued five sub-decrees on Monday, providing an allowance to all members of the armed forces and civil servants for the Khmer New Year, and increasing the salary of officials from the Interior Ministry and Defence Ministry. In the sub-decree on the provision of allowances for the Khmer New Year, the government said it will provide 50,000 riel, or about $12.50, to civil servants and members of the armed forces.

Recipients of the bonus include legislative officials, court officials, National Police officers, prison officials of the Interior Ministry, personnel of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and council members of provinces, districts and communes.

Also included are village chiefs, deputy village chiefs, contract officers and employees working at the national and sub-national level, retirees, former civil servants who are disabled or unable to work, former armed forces personnel, and former National Police officials.

Speaking at the inauguration of a stretch of National Road 1 in Phnom Penh yesterday, Prime Minister Hun Sen said he had signed five sub-decrees on Monday, providing an allowance to the armed forces and civil servants before Khmer New Year and increasing the salary of the army, National Police and general civil servants. “Before Khmer New Year, a lot of money is spent. First, increase the salary twice a year. Increase the basic salary and function allowance,” he said.
