Verify Medical License of Thai Doctor

Featured Replies

Does anyone know a website or agency in Thailand who can verify the license of a Thai doctor practicing medicine (at a major hospital).

I have looked closely at the Medical Council of Thailand's website and there is no search function and no information about licensing.

Please only answer if you have information.  I am fully aware of just about every negative comment that anyone can think of, so please hold your self-amusing thoughts for another post.  I mean this sincerely, and I dread even making this post here in this forum, but it is the only place I can think of where someone might know how to do this search.

Thank you for your time.

Your local provincial Ministry of Public Health office will have a department that checks medical qualifications and issues licences.

That department is located in the consumer affairs section of my local MoPH HQ.

I believe all medical clinics and professionals require a licence for the province they practice in. Background checks of presented qualifications is part of the licence procedure.

Some Private  hospitals  list the doctors credentials online etc :

it pays to shop around too,

I was quoted a  high figure once from hospital X  and the doctor kindly  suggested she could do it  for  about half that price

at hospital Y where she also works if an  insurance co isnt paying for it   ......

The Medical Council is the agency which can confirm this.

There is no online portal for it, at least not one open to the general public. You would have to contact them directly suggest having a Thai speaker call and itwill need some persistance as tbey are not used to such requests.

If you can provide the date (at least year) of graduation it will help along with correct Thai spelling of the name.

Some of the specialty associations have online lists of membership but that is no help unless the doctor is a board certified specialist.

While fake doctors are not uncommon in solo practice and fringe clinics (especially plastic surgery) I have not encountered it in government or legitimate private hospitals.

Goes without saying that meducal licensure is no guarantee of competency...here or anywhere else.

I want to share the facts and information I found on this topic for everyone's use.

I learned that Thai doctors are licensed once, and this license lasts their lifetime.

You can check the license of the doctor -only- by writing directly to The Medical Council of Thailand.  You can visit their website at www.tmc.or.th for some information if you wish, there is an English language selection in the upper right corner of the webpage.  However, the information on this webpage is not useful nor specific.

The email addresses that are given to the public to get license information are: [email protected] or [email protected].  The person who answers the "edu" email address writes very well in English, and the person(s) at "rg" never responded.

I had to write several times to get the information I needed.  I would not describe them as jumping to assist inquiries.

I hope this helps all.

One note, they're going to ask for the license number of the doctor you're inquiring about.  Not to worry, you can bypass this by telling them the full name of the doctor and the place where they are working.  I had to ask additional times to get confirmation and information on the stated training speciality of the doctor I inquired about.
