Premchai’s wife may face arrest over elephant tusks

The natural resources and environment police chief on Monday said he would seek an arrest warrant for the wife of embattled Italian-Thai Development president Premchai Karnasuta if she fails to meet police on Tuesday concerning her alleged possession of elephant tusks without a permit.

Kanittha Karntasuta had sought postponement of the first summons last week to acknowledge a charge following the discovery that the tusks in her house were actually from African elephants, not domestic ones as mentioned in the permit.

Another woman, Wandee Sompum, was also summonsed as she countersigned as a witness in the permit application. Police rejected the request and issued the second summons for both women to meet them on Tuesday at 11am.

Pol Maj General Panya Pinsuk said that, so far, neither woman had contacted police about the appointment. “If they fail to meet police on Tuesday at the set time, we will ask the court to issue arrest warrants for them,” Panya said.

The two pairs of tusks were found in Premchai’s house in Bangkok and the permits issued identified them as being from local elephants. However, lab test found that they were from African elephants.

The raid at the house resulted from the expansion of an investigation into Premchai’s alleged poaching in Thung Yai Naresuan wildlife sanctuary in Kanchanaburi province in early February.

The tycoon, who has already met police to face a charge in relation to the two pairs of tusks, was also accused of offering and jointly offering bribes to forest rangers in exchange for his freedom following the arrest.

Leave her alone she has an appointment at the day spa, followed by coffee and cake with the girls. Her social diary is just too full for this tusk business.

They belong to the maid anyway.

I can just imagine the stress these two "poor" people are going through right now. Dead animals, trespassing in a National Park with weapons, killing and cooking protected species, illegal elephant tusks in the palace and to crown it all the poor guy has to run a huge corporation.

Supper time must be really difficult as the maids and butlers worry about job security.

Not fair, just not fair.

let me guess, they will claim the tusks were gifts and they have no knowledge of its origins.

The maids and butlers have more to worry about, they could turn out to be the ones who were actually poaching.

And which official issued that permit anyway, no doubt in exchange for a more or less large "donation"? Can we presume they'll be held responsible as well?

I consider myself open minded, but I would never employ a maid with tusks.  She might gore the children.

What is the wai-ing protocol for senior police officers when arresting spouses of tycoons?

Khun Premchai & Co are really learning the hard way, what happens if you bet on the wrong horse......aka Thaksin

The authorities are almost comical in their eager to convict him...and please Dear Leader

Simple....low wai from her and very high wai's from the officers.....because you wai money....:coffee1:

African elephants eh!! Just carried them through customs. Off, on a technicality then.

How did the tusks suddenly become HER tusks instead of HIS tusks.... They were in HIS house.

And he's the big game hunter with the rifles, not her.... Or is it because he got the wife to do the false paperwork for them so it couldn't blow back on him if ever found out???

What about the department that issued the permit without doing a DNA to verify the origin of the tusks. Sloppy job or just the usual brown envelope.

And given a few months to come up with an answer (or many different answers) for the justification of them being in their house. It's the norm here and now well perfected.

And what about the customs department? Oh I forgot, the tusks probably came in via mail delivery with official stamps from Nigeria. My choice would have been shipping declared as diplomatic bag.

I would say he has upset the General with his previous allegiances.

No other reason he was chosen as the show money to parade the zero tolerance corruption cr@p, amid a scandal of the DPM and former police chief being swept under the carpet.

The original owner has died after giving away 25 pairs of tusks

...dragging this on...until it 'just goes away'....???
