A photo of Kittichai Ngamchaipisit on Monday in Bangkok.

BANGKOK — Seeking an interview Kittichai Ngamchaipisit, electrician, university dropout and co-founder of the Commoner Party was a very low-profile affair.

Unlike so-called high-profile progressive political movements, his has held no press conferences, the mass media has overlooked it and it doesn’t even have headquarters yet. But Kittichai’s party – which seeks to put the poor in parliament – is arguable one of the most serious and ambitious in term of ideology.

I wish him luck. I feel he has the right idea just has to get the votes. If he got elected he could become a major player as the voice for the poor. That is of course unless he got shot .

can't help thinking he made a mistake not merging with the FFP if that was in fact possibly on the cards

The poor should know their place. The elite and the generals run the show so shut up and go away. You are a troublemaker. Arrest him immediately.

Thailand needs a social-democrat-like party........but maybe with a little more charismatic leader....?

Poor deserve support, but not being in power. Coming from poor family I'm absolutely convinced that if they can't improve own life, they definitely don't have the capability to decide about others.

They will be poor going into Parliament  ,(if they get in) but a lot richer when

they leave,that's for sure.

Regardless of who is (and will be) in power, as long as the widely accepted Feudalistic Ground Structure remains entrenched and supported by the Elite all the way down to the Middle-Class, the poor will never have a say in political matters.

Not long ago, next to lining his own pockets, there was a guy trying to empower the poor simultaineously. A brilliant concept but he had to be ousted, otherwise the Feudalistic Ground Structure would have shown some cracks, endangering the "structure" as a whole.
Cheers.

I hope he wins enough votes to put an end to Prayut's craze for elitist costumes, poems, karaoke sessions, and Friday night comedy shows.

To be poor does not necessarily mean to be stupid in a society were the rich can afford to be. Just google Black Panther, and Luxury Watches.

You seriously don't think "the guy" was actually trying to empower the poor do you? Really?

He only ever wanted to empower himself.

Use your intellect, er, ask someone to tell you

Just another wolf in sheep's clothing.  Claim to speak for the poor but the agenda is really far left lgbt nonsense. Bit lihe most of the so-called Green parties where the actual ' green' part  I. e.  Caring for the environment is just a sideline to the main agenda and is used to hoodwink the urban based guilt trippers.

Me or you?

I would feel more confidence in this relatively humble guy than in a super-duper rich dude like Thanatorn. However, in today's slick political world, it may well need someone with Thanatorn's cash, connections and promotional experience to launch a viable new party to challenge the junta (although ultimately the junta will probably not allow any GENUINE challenge to their theft of national power). However, this chap Kittichai, who wants to get the poor into Parliament, immediately strikes a chord with me and I wish him well (although, as always in politics, one has to be cautious when one does not know what possible hidden agenda might be in operation; on the face of it, however, this humble guy seems genuine enough ...).

Wrong.

Of course he wanted to empower himself. But he also did this by empowering the people.

The people were his power, hence they've won every legit election ever since.

And from the people's perspective, for the first time ever their vote counted.

And they had a voice. And that voice was listened to.

That never happened before. Ever.
